The game installs ok, starts ok until the mission begins. The graphics are flickering and then it goes to either a memory dump or back to desktop with a window saying...

Crash in application version: 29980.2562

Vertex buffer Lock returned null pointer. Out of memory?

Renderer: threaded
Physics : threaded

I have the latest directx, latest nvidia drivers etc. Any ideas whats wrong?

You may want to ask this in the GRAW forums. What video card are you using also?

I had the exact same problem and did the following fixes:
Go to the Ageia website and get the latest video drivers ver. 7.07.24 then load and reboot computer.

Go to your sound card and get the latest drivers and then load and reboot computer.

I have the Nvidia GeForce 7800GT card so I uploaded the ForceWare drivers ver. 162.18 from their site and then I rebooted the computer.

Next go to Microsoft's download center and download the newest version of DirectX 9.0c which is the ver 9.20.1057. After installing reboot the computer.

Next step is to bring up your Nvidia control panel by right clicking on the screen and selecting the control panel. Open 3D settings in the left column and go to manage 3D settings. In the middle of the screen is a box that says, I would like to use the following 3D settings: Scroll down to Threaded Optimization and make sure it is turned off. Exit the control panel and reboot the computer.

Now start the game and go directly to options and select the video tab. Make sure Dynamic Shadows is set to Low. Also make sure Post Effects is also set to low.

It took me about an hour to make all the changes to the drivers and reboot the computer between each step. It is a hassle but my program now works with no glitches.

A much easier fix is in this response I got from Ubisoft. Worked for me.

'There seems to be a problem created by the last nvidia driver and the game that we are currently in contact with nvidia about. In the meantime, try turning the dynamic shadows to "Low" in the graphics options of the game and see if this resolves the issue.'

Hope it works for you too.
