Try this. Copy the entire contens of the CD to the hard drive. Run Setup from there. That should work. If not, try GR.net, we have tremendous Tech Help forums that should have the answer there.

could be that your CD is damaged. I had the same with island thunder. Couldn't find a new CD without paying way too much, so I used the "illegal" way. But with the original CD I can still start the game up, the only thing I needed was an undamaged data1.cab....
re-buying GR1 can be very hard as almost none of tehs hops still have it and when you buy from the internet it can get expensive or with very long delivery times.
