Ok, so I have the Retail (Australian, if it matters) version of Hawx for PC.

I installed the game and as it finished installing it displayed a .dll error (that I've forgotten to write down, it says reinstalling could fix but I've tried that).

Initially, without patches, the game runs the .exe (not the dx10.exe) but freezes on the loading screen after clicking "apply" in the profiles select screen.

So I download the 1.01 patch, it runs, and then it auto patches to the 1.02 patch. Now I get the error, when trying to run the dx10.exe "the app has failed to start because d3d10_1.dll was not found. Re-installing the app may fix this prooblem.

When I try to run the plain .exe, I get the error "The Exception unknown software exception (0xc000000d) occurred in the application at location 0x008c4720."

I've tried reinstalling, I've tried deleting the demo, empyting the temp folder. I've tried running the dxwebsetup.exe many times, and I get the error: An internal system error occurred. Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your windows folder to determine problem.

I've tried to run DXSETUP.exe from a few different sources with no success.

So I really don't know what to do. I'm seeing a lot of d3d10_1.dlls for torrent d/l but am weary of viruses etc... Is that the fix? Thanks for reading, and if you can think of anything to help, please suggest it!

I know you said you installed directx from different sources, but did you happen to try installing the one located on the disc? It should be located in a Support folder. Also, try running the game using the DX9 executable instead to see if you get the same result. Do this by going into the install directory of the game, which should be located here C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. Just run the HAWX.exe (DO NOT run the HAWX_dx10 one) in this folder.

I have tried both of these. Running dirextx from the cd doesnt seem to help.

Also as I said, when I try to run the plain .exe, I get the error "The Exception unknown software exception (0xc000000d) occurred in the application at location 0x008c4720."

I think the problem might be solved if I could just run dxwebsetup.exe successfully?

Or do you know if downloading the missing .dll from a torrent site would work (or more than likely a virus?).

I've seen that work for some people when something like this about directx missing files comes up. It's definitely up to you to try that, but I've also seen some users delete the file from the system folder containing the directx files and then running the directx update again, which seemed to fix it for some. Apparently, at some point directx is unable to update one or more of those files. I wouldn't recommend downloading the file from a site like that though. I say this because I would hate for you to run the risk of introducing a virus to your system, but its up to you.

I download and scanned d3d19_1.dll, and then had the error again with d3d10_1core.dll. Downloaded and scanned that, too. Now when I run the dx10 exe for hawx, I get:

The exception unknown software exception (0xc000000d) occurred in the application at location 0x008c5272.

For the dx9 exe I still get:

The exception unknown software exception (0xc000000d) occurred in the application at location 0x008c4720.

Any fixes for these errors? Cant find anything browsing google on my own, think this is well and truly over my head.

Try deleting the _settings_0.1.525.ini file from the Profiles folder. The location of this is C:\Users\teds.UBISOFT-ORG\Saved Games\Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X\Profiles. Run the game after this, see if you get the same error. If you do, uninstall the game and then reboot into selective startup (follow the steps below for this). Reinstall the game and remain in selective startup and then try running the game again.

I don't seem to have a Profiles folder or that file, perhaps because I've never actually successfully made a profile.

Whoops...I forgot to include those steps, sorry about that. Here are the steps for rebooting into selective startup.

Go to the Start menu, and choose Run (Start Search for Windows Vista users). Delete anything on the Open line that you'll find there, and type in the word MSCONFIG. Click on OK, and that will bring up a program called the System Configuration Utility.

Look down the list of startup items (not the tab labeled Startup), and choose Selective Startup (if it is not already selected). If you don't see this, make sure you've clicked on General, near the top of the window. Once you've chosen Selective Startup, uncheck 'Load Startup Items', and leave 'Process System.INI file' and 'Process Win.INI file' checked. Once you're done here, click OK, and let it reboot your computer.

Your Windows environment may look different and you may get an error relating to your sound device not working (ignore this for now). Try running the game again. If the game loads and seems to be working, the problem is most likely related to one or more programs you have scheduled to load with Windows. You can then revert the settings back the way they were, and in a trial and error fashion, disable some programs using the startup tab (in the msconfig utility) to try to find the culprit.

Not sure why buy the only options I have for selective startup are:

Load system services
Load startup items
Use original boot configuration

Tried it with just Load system services, same result.

If you're able to launch the game in DX9 mode, try go into the Options menu in the game and then go to the Video Settings. In here, set the Antialiasing to "None". Exit the game and then go into the Nvidia Control Panel, disable or set the Antialiasing and Anisotroic settings to Off. Try running it after this.

Nope, cant run either .exe.

Try updating the sound drivers, that is the only thing at the moment that I can see that would be causing a problem. The dxdiag info you posted, shows the sound drivers with a 2006 date. There should be more recent ones available. You may need to check with your computer or motherboard manufacturer for these onboard audio drivers. Try reinstalling the game after you've updated the drivers and then try launching it again.

If you get this error or any other errors again, respond with the details of the error messages.
