I recently bought the Saitek Aviator AV8R-02 Joystick for Xbox and PC and I am using it on my PC. Despite a very unhelpful Manual, cobbled from the standard Aviator product and with misleading or wrong information, I have installed it and got it to work with Microsoft FSX and Tom Clancy’s HAWX.
This version of the Aviator does not use a Saitek driver and does not support the Saitek programming software. It installs as an “Xbox 360 Controller for Windows” and uses Microsoft drivers. The central Xbox Guide button has no function. However, I can use the rest of the joysticks controls and functions but I have a problem with the “Trigger” and the “Blue X button.” According to the manual the Trigger replicates the Xbox Right Trigger and the Blue X button replicates the Xbox Left Trigger. In HAWX to manually assign Buttons and Axis you use the Xbox 360 settings menu and although all other controls and settings work the Trigger and Blue X button do not function. In FSX in the control settings menu they both show as Trigger Axis and can be assigned but do not work correctly in the game. Is there anyone out there who can help me to assign and use these two controls? |

Ignore the manual which is just plain wrong. Install the Xbox360 drivers if you haven't already done so, and put the stick in MODE 1 (i.e. the setting for an XBOX360). Then set the 'Controls' option to "Xbox Gamepad". The throttle/Brake lever at the front then replaces the triggers for accelrate/Brake, and all the other buttons work fine for me then, though I used to play on the 360 almost exclusively.
PC version is nice as it allows higher resolution (2560x1600 gives me an average 62fps and max 158fps) but a lot buggier if you read all the other threads. Colin Colin HAWX Callsign: "Demon" |
