Well I don't think it would be based on 'A' city but multiple cities. They have already done a lot of research on some very good cities. Such as: New York (DPL), Nice (Driv3r), Istanbul (driv3r, this is also good because its a bit more ethnic. the next city needs a lot of different culture), Havana (Driver2), Rio (Driver2) and even Vegas. All this is really good but another few cities I'd like to get thrown into the mix is LA, Washington and Boston. I know LA was in a mobile version of Driver but its hardly the most researched game in the world.

I was actually pondering about this for the last week. And it's just a thought, nothing's set in stone.
What if the next Driver game was set on the ENTIRE island of the United Kingdom? This would include ALL of England, Scotland, and Wales. And ALL of the cities would be there like London, Newcastle, York, Oxford, Doncaster, Swindon, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, etc. I hope the PS3, XBOX 360, and PC could handle all of this. I like the idea of having a whole island like that but I don't think consoles are quite upto that yet, lol. You could maybe have something like test drive unlimited but not the entire of the UK.

Another good place that would be entirely on an island besides the UK and Hawaii is Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Montreal is on an island surrounded by the St. Lawrence Seaway. I've never been to Montreal, but I still don't think it's the greatest place in the world. Basically, if you want a real place on an island, Montreal is another option to consider.

I believe that one city is enough. By having more than one city, the focus on the storyline and on trying to get as much of the game to stay really polished will be that much harder, so it is not a smart move to make.
Did you ever realize why D1, D2, and D3 were so extremely full of glitches? A part of this problem was the fact that they all contained more than one city, which made it that much harder for testers to make sure that the games were put together in the best ways possible. Yes, RPGs have had multiple cities for players to go through, but unlike open-world games, RPGs are made to be pretty linear, so they need to be finely polished, thus meaning that the testers have that much more of a priority to focus on the cities. Also, RPGs are more likely to contain nice thought up stories. The reason why D2 and D3's storylines were not very impressive was part of the fact that they had multiple cities. They just couldn't tie all the cities together in such a fascinating way. D1 was able to do pretty well on its storyline and missions, having 4 cities, but that was just one time that it actually had worked. A game disc would need to have a lot of space to hold its gameplay, graphics, and sound effects. With more than one city, possibly being more than 30 miles each, you'd be practically asking for Reflections to sacrifice the rest of the gameplay for just more than one city which may or may not be so realistic in their themes and portrayals of those cities as to how they actually are in reality. Also, think of how much more work you'd be putting up for Reflections to research. Remember that games will never get 100% accuracy in a city, and there is no point to try to go as far as to prove that, especially if it jeopardizes the many important things that are parts of a game. I'd rather sacrifice more linear gameplay that is extremely well done than to have a non-linear game full of mediocrity. RIP Zeus, my one and only dog. |
