Awesome ideas Dutch_Seinfeld! I think both NYC and SF will be awesome in the next big Driver game. And I love your car ideas too!

I disagree on the time period, although I do like the DPL solution of having both time periods, the REAL Driver time period, aka the 70's, and then nowadays to sell out to the masses, so kids who don't like the 70's can all be happy.

BUT, if they do this again (2 time periods), do not stylize them to death. 2006 looked so cold and dead, there was no color, and even though I like modern cars, I found myself hating the modern ones in game, for some reason. Probably because all you ever saw was that Lexus sedan. Give us more sports cars, more poppy colors, like an allergy commercial after the transition to the good part.

And I must agree on your city of choice, whether or not it is 100% accurate, I could care less. None of the cities in D1 were 100% accurate and you all seemingly loved that game. But I won't get into this old argument again.

As long as the car chases are challenging and exciting again, I don't see how the game could suck. Even in GTA, I spend most of my time in a car, but I suppose thats because on foot controls suck, and theres not enough interaction to keep it fresh. Hell, even the driving is insanely boring in GTA, I never have a reason to play it other than being SO BORED I might as well do something. I usually sleep though, cause thats more entertaining than GTA. Driver 1 is now better than San Andreas. SA has burnt out, D1 lives on. Resurrect whatever you guys did to D1 and do it 10 times better this time!

I want modern day. This way we can have EVERYTHING. Music, vehicles, weapons, etc from both the past and present. I mean the 70s is cool, but many people want to drive SUVs and luxury sedans in games nowadays (like me). But we do need a lot of muscle cars too (like me). And the reason why the 2006 part of D:PL looks so "Dead" and "Cold" is because like all Northern American cities (in the northeast, midwest, and northwest), they experience cold winters.

Ofcourse they did. Let's not forget DPL '06 was set in January or February (I missed some snow, though)

I would've said that the 2006 part of D:PL is your interpretation when it comes to what month it's set in. It might be either the winter of 2005-2006 or the winter of 2006-2007. So I guess we can still say that the 2006 part of D:PL is still "Present Day". I like to think of the 2006 part of D:PL as 2005, 2006, or 2007, after all, there isn't such a big difference between those years in New York.

One setting that Reflections should do in one of their new games or a new Driver game is 1976 in Philadelphia, PA. That would be REALLY groovy.

Groovy has never been a word that I associated with Philidelphia.

If you're going to do winter in a videogame city, you need some color still, do a city with evergreen trees at least, spruce up the place a bit. I would like to see snow, but don't make the city as depressing as 2006 NY was.

I don't want to drive SUV's or sedans, I can do that anyday, give me some muscle cars, sports cars, construction equipment capable of destruction, jet planes, any planes, boats of all sizes, military vehicles. The plain old boring stuff should just be there to keep a tid bit of realism, but there should be more exotic cars than usual, a lot more.

And I agree that the 70's is a requirement for all Driver games. Any other time period should just be extra stuff added on.

I wish D:PL had snow in the 2006 part, but it did have dead-looking grass. So it did look a little like winter.

Now about the 70s, I do like the 70s, it was an awesome era, but I want the present day because you can have more things (music, weapons, vehicles), can't have modern day stuff in the 70s, otherwise it looks pretty f**ked up. So I think present day is always best, this way we'd be allowed to do and have more things. See, I don't settle for less.

Now about Philadelphia (that's the correct way you spell it), it looked like a groovy city for sure. Ever see the first Rocky movie? Plus, Philly in '76 was the time and place of the bi-centenial of the country. So there was a lot of "stuff" going on back then and there. Philly is one city I highly recommend Reflections does if the next Driver is set in the 70s. The Driver 1 cities were really groovy cities too. In fact, why not have all 5 if the next Driver is set in the 70s?

I don't think that I would necessarily call Driver 1 as being more of a fun game than GTA: SA, but that's your own opinion. The idea of bringing the stuff from D1 and making it look 10 times better sounds like a good idea. And in general, you would be refering to how the storyline, missions, vehicles, film director, and TAR mode were all done really well.

I like your suggestions about the modern era, Matt_jon. Leaving in more exotic cars is a must have for the next Driver game. The other, more boring vehicles would be there too, but that would only be for the realism part of the game.

What a great idea, Driverman2006. Having those cities in a 1970's setting would be very delightful. And Reflections doesn't need to have 100% accurate cities if they have 5 cities in the game, but at least they should make them very creative and realistic at the same time so that it applies to the driving and free-roaming found in the game.

All of the above are pretty good ideas, and I hope we see some of them in the next Driver game.
BTW; Assaultmachine1, what do you think of my car list?

The reason I like the 70's era so much is the music, listen to the music in the first game, it fit perfectly, it was made FOR the game. Sure, the D3 music was also made for that game, and sucked, but thats mostly due to whoever wrote it probably just sucked, or didn't take the job too seriously. We need some funky music!

And I do like modern times, don't get me wrong, but I think if they were to do modern times we'd need less realism in at least the cars that appear. Something I support in any time period really, but what I'm trying to get at is Driver is made for the old cars that drive like boats, no matter what time period its set in, we will need lots of these old cars. So while you would occasionally see normal cars for this time period, I'd say 2/3 of the cars on the road need to be cars we actually want to drive. The games about Hollywood chases right? How many chases do you see with Mini vans? I'll make my own list, forget a few cars, but even throw in some normal cars:

Cars I actually want to drive:
-------------------------------
*2007/90's Dodge Viper
*68 Charger (I want the Dukes of Hazzard one, paint job or not)
*56/Stingray/2007 Chevrolet Corvette
*64/Boss/80's/2000 Mustang GT
*2007 Lamborghini Murcielago
*Lamborghini Diablo/Countach
*Ferrari F40/F50
*Ferrari 360 Modena
*Plymouth Roadrunner (the one with huge spoiler)
*60's Lincoln Continental (with suicide doors)
*Ford GT40 new/old basically the same, pick one
*68 Camaro/New Concept Camaro
*90's Pontiac Firebird
*07 Honda S2000
*Acura NSX
*Mitsubishi/Subaru Evo VIII (I forget which company it is)
*Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 (MUST HAVE!!)

Trucks (let us modify lift and tires, diesel engine at least):
-----------------------------------------------
*Old US Army Truck (Army in GTA drives them)
*Jeep Wrangler
*Pick Up Truck, big and small

Vehicles of Mass Destruction
----------------------------
*Crane with changeable arm, wrecking ball, claw, magnet, scoop
*Bulldozer that goes reasonably faster than a real one
*Dump truck, normal size and HUGE!!
*Tank, obviously
*F-22 Raptor with bombs and missiles

etc. etc., use your own imagination here, anything fast or than can cause destruction is a worthy vehicle.

Nice car lists, guys.

And yes, we definitely need to be seeing a lot from the 1970's. Maybe Reflections could work on a D1 remake with what it had and even plenty of free-roaming to go around. It would be a good way to test and see how much a Driver game can actually handle.

I remember when Capcom worked on a Resident Evil 1 remake in order to see how good the Gamecube can handle a gamecube game. Then the team worked on RE0 and ports of RE2, RE3, RE: Code Veronica X, and, finally, they were able to see just how much RE4 could handle and it turned out to be one of the biggest gamecube games around.

I think that it would be great to see Reflections bring back D1 and maybe even D2 for people to experience the same great gameplay along with free-roaming and better graphics. Everything that is old and new in the D1 and D2 remakes would feel great. Then, Reflections could apply the great skills they've gotten from making those games and put together an entirely new Driver game that takes place after D3 and helps put the focus back on Tanner. They need to create and make Tanner into one of the biggest and most memorable icons in the Video Game Industry. This is what I think Reflections should spend time on doing after having worked on D76 and the PC and Wii ports of DPL.

Hey I have a fair solution for the next big Driver game. Why not have 2 lifetimes of Tanner? We could play as Tanner in both the 70s and the 2000s (2006-2008 maybe). I'm not saying that Tanner would go to prison, the bridge would be something like "The Rest" of the things he did in Driver 2 & 3. So it's like playing Driver 1 (the 70s) and the new big Driver game (the 2000s). That would be cool, and we'd all get what we want.

Your idea, Driverman2006, is quite interesting. I think that it would solve our problems and it is an interesting thing if Reflections decides to keep doing the 2 time periods settings for its Driver games. This is what made DPL great, in my opinion and it allowed for many different things to be seen in the game. Now that we shall see a Driver game on the PS3, that power will be taken even further, so it is an idea of many that could work.

I would either want to see remakes of D1 and D2 or a new game with or without two time periods.

I'd like to see more than one city again, but its really not that important to me. I rather like the whole two time period deal.

Yes. To be honest with you, I don't care of this either. It really matters more at how Reflections puts effort into the designing of the next-gen Driver game. They will have to do a lot and should innovation get into the hands of them, they can expect a lot of greatness and be one step closer to getting revenge at Rockstar North.

I don't care about the size of the city(ies) so much, I want lots of interaction with anything you can think of.

Just as in older games where the most fun to be had was manipulating the glitches to do cool new things, they should make it so through interaction of different objects we can find new forms of gameplay. This is the next step in gaming.

I'll try to think of examples by looking around the room.. lets see:

*Pile furniture to be able to reach a cieling vent that you can crawl through to spy on people
*Use various objects as melee weapons
*Destroy objects in the room with weapons (even ones you picked up)
*Use bed sheets/rope to scale a building, lasso people
*Use rope to reach another building across a street by one of those things that slides across the rope, get creative, doesn't have to be realistic, its based on movies. In a movie you could use a sock to slide down a rope (yea right)
*Start a fire in the kitchen (or let the gas run out of the oven, go outside and shoot the house - KaBoom!)
*Use tools in a garage to modify objects/vehicles/weapons/use them as weapons

See, its not really that hard to think of different ways to use objects, though it would be hard to implement it (why no one has done it in a videogame yet), and with more freedom, comes more glitches unfortunately, as there'd be more varied gameplay to have to look through.

So while it may be too late to use this idea for Driver 4, maybe we could see something along these lines for the next one? Next gen?

This would be the best way, I think, to make on foot more interesting.

Sounds like a fun game. It would be welcome once they get all the driving elements down, and would really improve the on foot replay value.

Next Driver: Interior DASH view, Free Roam TAG MODE chases, Miles of Backroads, Intense Speed-Edge of your seat Action, MAJOR Crash Impacts, day/night cycle, tons of customizable options, lots of stunts, ON FOOT in FPS view/overthe shoulder RE4 style, sportbikes, more car camera views, "Drop a RAMP" Cheat, fun vehicle chases where THE CAR is the Weapon, not a gun...
