How SMART and TOUGH do you want the COPS/Crooks/Traffic to be in the new Driver?

NEW DRIVER

COPS
I want them as smart and tough as the cops on the show COPS. And tough to lose like the show "World's Scariest Police Chases", so when I plug in the game, an epic car chase is the main reason to play. For minor speeding violations, they'll wait for you to pull over in the first 30 seconds, then walk up and give you a ticket. If you step on it, they'll call it in and pursue with the intent of arresting you. Roadblocks, high speed pursuits, epic chases with five cruisers or more on your case.

I'd like a chase to last a half hour if possible, going from suburbs to freeways to rural backroads. The cops should call in for back up. You'll have to be a darn good driver or very lucky to lose them. That's the kind of game I want to play.

COP CAR ENDURANCE
A standard cop car cruiser will have a high-powered engine, with bullet proof windows, a bar ram on the front bumper, and built to take some punishment. They'll be agile, able to foresee upcoming traffic to keep the chase going. No more idiots ramming into center poles when you veer behind one.

CROOKS(enemies)
When chasing the crooks in vehicle, some will be dumb and easy to catch, others will give you a run for your money, as tough and smart as the cops, with skills almost as good as Tanner's. If we lose sight of them, give us a chance to catch up without ending the chase. Sometimes, they'll make mistakes.

Pedestrian TRAFFIC
I want it FAST, no more Sunday Drivers. On the Freeway, 70+ mph. I'd like more aggressive traffic, so if you're speeding through an intersection RED LIGHT, the cross traffic, if you hit it, will result in a serious impact, like the ones on TV where cars are smashed to pieces, tossed around with impact. No more little bumps for high speed impacts. People popping out of windshields is the idea. Don't cross the street without looking or PAY the price traffic. They also swerve out of the way when you're heading into oncoming traffic.

STREET PEDESTRIANS(crowds)
I'm tired of dumb pedestrians. Most people will leap out of the way or run when they see a wild chase heading their way. Jump out of the way, like from Driver 1 and 2. Some will be too slow, and get hit, but most should be alert and ready to flee. I'd also like them to fight back when trying to steal their car, driving off, punching you, hitting you with their purse, people aren't pushovers most of the time.

TANNER'S VEHICLE ENDURANCE(car, sportbike, truck, etc)
Able to take a beating. External frame dents wont' affect the steering or condition so long as what's underneath hasn't been affected. The vehicle will be strong if you built it that way, able to endure plenty of hard landings and rammings.

Those are the default settings I'd like to see, with an option to adjust the difficulty from easy, med, tough, insane. Otherwise, safe traffic is DULL.

What are your thoughts?

It does need to be at least as good as seen in your post, InsaneDriver06. There really needs to be great degree of realism for the cops, criminals, and pedestrians. Otherwise, it's AI will be terrible and nothing revolutionary, nor anything impressive. I'm very hoping that Reflections will put a lot of work towards pushing the AI for every NPC further than any other free-roam crime-city-styled game has ever gone. And yes, just as you made clear, it should vary, based upon the difficulty that is chosen.

Thanks. The challenge the police and crooks provide will help to make or break the chases.

I think when everything's on the line, and you know you HAVE to escape, things get intense. Take the last mission in Driver 1 for example. You had to reach the garage on the other side of NYC. The lightning fast, super ramming cop cars had an unfair advantage. But it was exciting nonetheless.

I'd like the cops to be tough through speed and smarts, not through super-powered cop cars. In other words, they could have a car just as good as your own, but still be tough to shake.

I agree with faster traffic, but we still need to be able to pass them like they're standing still.

If you play GTASA, it takes forever to pass somebody on the highway, and that sucks.

Faster traffic leads to bigger smashes. Burnout style crashes, especially the intersection crossing. Put some more train crossings in too, with a train that regularly circles the city at high speeds. If you want to highjack the train, you're gonna need to either jump out of your vehicle onto it, or somehow land your car on or in it, then make your way to the front (this is where crouching and crawling will come in handy, for all the tunnels through our way..

Great ideas. The overall realism and harmony to Police, Criminals and Civilians would be great.

I'd like to see better and more random criminals. Now they are just speeding or ramming to shoot me and that is somehow strange. People would be unique, some would be always calm, some would be real shameless criminals, but there could also be people who just get more aggressive or calm, like in Burnout. Ability to be more a cop securing safety of city, maybe even arresting criminals.

Random criminals would be welcome in Driver 5.

COPS: Keep it to cop cars and cop car blockades. As soon as the swat team shows up, they start shooting machine guns, instantly shooting out your ride. It's too cheap, and ends the fun.

I rather face off against MORE cop cars than a swat team. Swat trucks can't manuever like a car, so they resort to cheap shooting sprees. Same with helicopters and FBI cars.

I want to face a blockade of 20 cop cars, reverse 180 and have them all join in the chase. That would be awesome.

Stay away from the cheap shooting in DPL too. Those shot gun cops were nearly impossible to avoid getting hit by.

As almost mentioned above about those TV shows with awesome car chases.

I'd just simply say they'll have to be as realistic as possible.

and think your going to ruin your car within a few minutes of driving, think again. Most car chases last over 10mins some even hours or more.

Remember cops don't just shoot from their windows, they just try heaps of tactics to bring you down. Like the P.I.T. | Where cops try to spin you out by nudging the back of your vehicle.

I think reflections need to watch all those shows like cops, and all other similar shows to get some ideas of how things are controlled in a realistic matter.

Doing something like this requires the game to be ultra-realistic, but is well worth it.

It saves getting into a pursuit in real life Smile

So if you hit a pole you'll end up with the cops catching you because you totaled your vehicle.

Like in driv3r where you couldn't go thorough a pole. Sure people didn't like that but if you allow players to slow down, they are less likely to crash. But they cannot slow down when there is a copy shooting hundreds of rounds of bullets at you.

They don't do that in real life.

I watched my friend playing Call of Duty 4 yesterday, man that game is awesome. Aside from the graphics, I'd say the best thing about it is how the people fall when you shoot them, it looks so much better than anything I've seen:

In Driver when you shoot someone, they freeze in place and fall down. However in CoD4, if you shoot someone while they're running, they still have momentum. It makes a world of difference. I also like that it has blood in it. Anyway, just thought I'd point that out

I think it'd be cool if the cops would chase you on foot. That is, if you run. But they should always try to be advancing on you to catch you, it would make the game more frantic I think. Obviously if you grabbed a weapon and opened fire, they would take cover

Also, why don't they hide behind the doors of their cars?

Yes to "TV style epic chases" that go from city streets to freeways to rural backroads, then to on foot pursuits where the cops are running FAST. You can even throw in a spotlight helicopter(but it won't shoot, just locate you if you don't hide well enough). I agree, Reflections should make the chases more like that. Those are fun to watch.

On Foot Chases: I think that until you open fire, the cops should continue the pursuit on foot without shooting, maybe yelling "Freeze!". They could hit you with a taser nowadays, so maybe that could be something to avoid. If you open fire, they can pursue with deadly force, but their main goal is to tackle you into submission, then cuff you.

And big pursuits not for a traffic ticket or getting into a minor fender bender, but serious crimes. In past Drivers, do one mile above the speed limit and the whole police force was there to take you down.

TRAFFIC TICKETS: Give us the option to pull over and take a $$ penalty/traffic ticket without having to get rammed or shot at.
