I remember that we were talking about this before, and now, let's talk about it again. I remember that some of us said that we wanted a Driver 1 prequel. So I think I got it right (by following the story, time period, etc). It should be on the PSP first, then maybe on next-gen home consoles (if sales are good).

OK, the name of the game shouldn't be called "Driver", but something like either "Stock Car Racer '76" or "The Coming of Tanner" (the last one is a parody name of Riley Martin's book "The Coming of Tan"). It would be a professional race game with Tanner as the playable character set in 1976. The game will be set all over the United States in 1976 (basically, one race track per state [if those tracks really existed]). It will also have 4 New York City tracks (since Tanner's from New York). The NYC tracks will include the same tracks for Driver GP in Manhattan and Long Island (as in D:PL), it will also have the Broadway-Park Avenue Circuit (crossing at 42nd street), and Tour-de-Manhattan (a circuit race that runs all along the edges of Manhattan Island). NYC should be a very accurate recreation (both map wise and history wise), but the only drivable roads will be those for the races, so most of NYC's roads will be blocked off so that on lookers can watch. So this would be about 54 race tracks around the country.

Since this is a professional racer game, the weapons and on foot action will not be included. However, since this is a professional racer, it will have tire damage and gas refilling.

The cars in the game should be ALL of Driver 76's Race cars, sports cars, muscle cars, 4-door sedans, and 2-door sedans (although not seperate repaints such as "The Thompson's Ride" or "Isaiah's Wheels"). All of these vehicles will come in their standard form and race versions too. The customization from D:PL should be in there too, although you should be able to customize license plates (both states and lettering, with every state's license plates from 1976). You should also be able to go to the pit stop if you wish to get a refill on gas or get the tires changed.

Now the way the game should play should be something like this. There will be races for specific kinds of cars only in the career mode (such as "Cerrano Racers Only", as well as for every other kind of car in the game) and then there will be races for specific car classes only in the career mode (such as "Muscle Cars Only"). There isn't really a strong story, it's kind of like a Midnight Club 3 kind of story, so there aren't too many characters. Some characters that you'll encounter are some familiar faces in Driver such as Ray and Rusty Slater (they'll be your rivals). And you earn money from the races (which you can spend for mods on your ride since it has car customization), you will also unlock a new car after you came in first after a race you didn't complete before. There will also be a free roam mode, allowing you to explore the tracks or hone your skills. There will be a practice race mode to hone your skills (but it won't count against or for you). And there will be some multiplayer and online games to play too with your friends. There will be dynamic weather and time (1 minute in the game equals one minute on earth), and it will be unpredictable in the career mode, although you can select what weather and time of day you wish to start with in the other modes.

The soundtrack from the 70s part of D:PL will be back in the gameplay and cutscenes (although with a few cutbacks for historical reasons). The soundtrack should also be customizable (on the PSP version). So the 70s feel from Driver 76 and Parallel Lines will still be there!

So what do you think of this idea? What do you think a good name for this would be? Personally, I like it! It's got good taste for both the 70s and professional racing.

Yeah, I like it. I always thought Tanner's story of being a race driver was more interesting than the undercover police stuff. I'd also like to see some demolition derby events besides the races, to keep the game exciting.

--------------
Next Driver: Interior DASH view, Free Roam TAG MODE chases, Miles of Backroads, Intense Speed-Edge of your seat Action, MAJOR Crash Impacts, day/night cycle, tons of customizable options, lots of stunts, ON FOOT in FPS view/overthe shoulder RE4 style, sportbikes, more car camera views, "Drop a RAMP" Cheat, fun vehicle chases where THE CAR is the Weapon, not a gun...

It was a really great move for bringing this idea back. Just let it be known that I was one of the people who thought of having Reflections work on such a Driver game. Infact, I'd rather have this than a D1 remake, as it truly ensures that the entire game will be devoted to the driving experience, except maybe of having character customization and a FP view for the interiors (like in PGR3) to make it feel like you're an actual driver. This should be the next Driver game, if need be for having Reflections get back on track with what the series needs, filtering out the rest of the on-foot (other than the FP view within interiors) to save the franchise from anything that may make it worn out in any way. After this prequel, I'd want the multiple career path idea taken into consideration and offering the biggest driving experience ever (land vehicles) only.

if there is is a prequel then i think it should be for all the games and the story should remain the same but well maybe have more style and in the PL and 76 prequels u could have hints of TANNER WAS HERE like in a cutscene u would see his face in a dakrkened position after the main event of the scene just a little idea dn the the prequel should be called

The Echoe Of The Driver: The Wheelman Is RE-Born

Thats my idea but as for the playing of the game I think graphics should be sproosed up to be competition with the others on the PSP which it should come out on first, and the physics to be tweaked and the feeling should be the DPL 1978 but only it should dark and sinister like at the end of the game just before the credits it should just show u the headlights on the road up some quite country backroad and the song 'Road to HellPart 1&2' should be playing.

Please comment on my idea Big Grin

Sorry for double posting but some of the art work in Driver 2 was awsome like at the very start of the game it should u the picture of the two cars chasing. I think that was class and the music at the start of the game was great to and Las Vegas's ghost was a brilliant idea. I think the new driver should have a made up city though because then they can make it awsome basically. It would be good if it just said disclosed location at the start like in the spy movies. And I wuld also like to add the music in the cutscenes of driver 2 were brilliant the music at the start of Driv3r were good although the in game music was **** and finally themusic in DPL 1978 not 2006 was brilliant but some of the instrumental stuff in Driver 2/3 was brilliant again not in game though thankfully fixed in DPL

The ingame music from all Drivers 1, 2, and 3 were $#!+ compared to the ingame music from D:PL. I love the real and lyriced music. It sounds so much better.

Now one thing that I'd like to add. The tracks should vary by state. For example, the race track in California might have an asphault road, the track in Florida might have cement road, the track in Tennessee might have dirt instead of road, and the Alaska track might have ice and snow instead of road.

The ingame music was **** in driver 1,2,3 but the music in the cutscenes was good. DPL stepped up its game with the ingame music in 1978 but in 2006 they ruined it with all the rap ****e

I like this idea, Driverman2006. However, I don't think that we'd be able to see very many cities within the game, unless the game was to be a closed-circuit racing game, but this is infact a street racing game, which means that it will likely focus on one or two as the only limit of cities in the game. Making closed-circuit tracks take place all over the world in a video game is easier to add to more variety, but a street racing game usually is good for offering little amounts of different cities, and instead, focusing on a large scale of a city, meaning that you get a lot of areas from that city. I think that a city of New York would suit the game the best since Tanner was from New York. Other than that, I'd say a better city would be LA, but it's already been taken by MCLA, so there's no point in seeing that. Maybe, as I've mentioned before, a city of Colorado's would the perfect choice as there are mountains and other types of terrain while also not being a frequent city in any video game, so it'd possibly be the best choice for the prequel.

I really like this idea! I'd have a feature where you could put certan numbers and logos (like the painter in TrackMania United) and change your car's colors. Also some sort of way to download new decals/cars would be cool. It could have the closed off races but maybe some in Canada and some in mexico, UK, etc.
