Is there some kind of "retalation" or something like that here? From both parts? Because I don't see many people from Fansites here, or some people here in fansites.

I have an account over at D'Madness's forums, but I chat on here because I like to chat about 1 topic (Driver) in 1 place and not "50" diferent websites, although I do like going to the fansites for good news updates!

I like to keep it simple! Smile

When D4 comes out I might start going to different forums too which are more PC based so I can discuss modding the Driver games, and I'm sure that now Ubisoft own the series that the game will be much more moddable since Ubi know how much the fans like modding their games!!

I have nothing against the fansites, I suppose there may be more people to talk to on them. The real reason I'm just at this website (also because I don't want to post the same thing 50 times) is because I like to pitch ideas to Reflections and hope they read it.

I guess I should check out the other websites though, but it never seemed like there were that many more people on the forums there.

Reflections/Ubisoft should release some info/pics/TRAILER (pick this one!) to generate some interest in the game. But make the trailer actually show some in game action.

Its seem that the game is still a little early in development for anything like that...

If it was due to be released in april 2009 then we might just get to see a few general screanshots being posted here and there, but even if it was to be released then, we wouldn't actually see any videos/trailers until at least december, but more realistically about january...

and that is only if they decide to release it in april 09...

Sorry for the double post but...

I wanted to know if the fansites need us to view them to get their small donations from the advertisements, if so I will check them out a little more often as a donation to them (although I wont be paying them, I would be helping them to get payed by the advertiers)

I used Atari and Driver Madness forums equally.
Back when Ubisoft first acquired the series, they didn't have a driver forum.
Then I decided to keep using Driver Madness, although they had a forum for portable games that included Driver 76 there were posts left right and centre related to driver and many unrelated.
Then Ubisoft added Driver - General Discussion. I started using it a lot, but used driver madness more because it was more active. Then I become more active on the ubisoft forums, but slowly moved away from

it again when the driver madness forums were back up and running.

I don't really have the time to be in two places at once, but I try to get around all the communities at least a little bit.

-----------

Regarding Modding, driver madness does have it's own modifying forums and there seems to be much more modifying discussion there than anywhere else. I did notice Driver-Worlds does have a lot of info but

that's all in german.

Me & Jay (owner Driver-Welten) are fairly interested in modding the game.
Both DriverMadness/DriverWelten forums tend to have lots of information on modding.

-----------

I've tryed my best to make Driver Madness as near and user-friendly as possible.
I also try my best to keep it very organised. A while ago I had an idea of developing a webscript that allowed people to submit and share wishes where other users could comment and rate other wishes and

wishes could be ordered vy popularity. Unfortuanatly that was almost two years ago when I first had that idea and I never got enough time to create it so I decided to open up a forum category just for

wishes, hoping that reflections reads it.

"J_Frumpleberg", I noticed reading about your interest in creating such a webscript.
Unfortuatly this is something you cannot achieve with html alone. You need knowledge of server-side scripting and a server which can host it. By server-side scripting I mean programming languages like PHP,

ASP, ect. and databases MySQL, ect.

I also seen your freewebs hosted site
http://www.freewebs.com/rayfamilyreunion/wishes.xml
I going a little off topic but, if your interested in having it hosted on drivermadness I can set you up a FTP account. But when I read your post I noticed that your doing something I was interested on doing

on the DriverWiki setting up wishlist pages. If your interested feel free to give me a buzz Smile

-----------

Back on topic!
Driver Madness recently is going through a weird phase, it's very active but people tend to be using the general discussion areas rather than the driver forums.
and I've also noticed that people are creating really small topics these users should really be warned and their posts deleted because it almost feels like a waste having to scroll through topics.
One thing I've disliked about the forum here at Ubi, is that everyone creates much larger posts which take sometime to get through. I usually end up skim-reading through everything. I'm sure many will do

this same with this post, I've posted here.

I've finally decided to hire a few moderators which will hopefully help reduce useless posts.

Luckily the advertisements on driver madness arn't annoying and pay for (on average) 40-50% of hosting bill.
Which supports me keeping the website up, which is fairly good because we have a fair bit of space and currently use 30gig of data.
Most of it can be accessed in the downloads section downloads.drivermadness.net (17GB). Every cent helps us improve things.
As advertisement publishers, were told not to assist unfair clicking of ads. But if you ever see anything interesting it's good to consider it.

-----------

Overall the Driver Madness forums seem to be going fairly well, it has it's pros and cons as well as many other boards.
I hope this improves in the future.

I've got to say,

1 of my probles with these Ubisoft forums is the fact that one of the posters in particular keeps on posting "Advertisements" of Rival games, and to be honest, when I'm on a driver forum... I expect to be talking about driver, not 60 different games

and I really hate when a few users say that Driver should be made a little more FPS shooter like

and to be honest, if eveyone agrees with that user, then they should scrap the whole driver series now before they ruin it

DRIVER IS A DRIVING GAME!!!!!!!!
Stop posting these stupid suggestions!!!

Yeah, I'd agree.

I would think about make a small exception for talking about The Wheelman, but not any of the other games, that are much more unrelated.

I'd hate to see driver move away from its driving emphasis, and asking reflections for better on-foot mode is silly. When all we need to do is change vehicles, blow-up things (particularly cars) Smile. But that's for wishlist discussion.

There are a few good suggestions here, but not as many as I would have expected.
I actually have avoided these forums sometimes because of some of the suggestions, and there is much less appreciation for previous driver games like there was on the Atari Community.

It seems Reflections is in quite a pickle. Every fan of the game disagrees about every little aspect.

I would like a more FPS style on foot control like in Driv3r (but improved). I don't see why we can't have it, it makes on foot more interesting than just to get other cars. And when people say on foot should only be available to find other cars, it makes me think if they got their wish, the series would be doomed.

If they did decide to do something like that, they're gonna need a really good driving section with plenty of action, rewards, etc.

But the way I see it is, if you don't like shooting weapons, don't shoot em. Just don't ruin my fun and ask them to be taken out of the game. And if you lack the discipline to play the game like that, maybe an option to turn off weapons.

Why can't we have a good on foot portion and still have a good driving section too? Is that impossible for anyone else to imagine?

As for the Driver Wiki, I would like to manage a wishlist for it. Sorry I never replyed to your thread on it, but it seemed like all you wanted to do was catalogue missions and strategies, and that just seemed really boring and tedious to me

I think that the idea of Rewards would be good, such as, you get a bonus car in you'r garage for reaching 150mph for example

I didn't say that we have to take away weapons in the on foot mode, but I dont want Driver to be like a FPS game because I simply want a game which I can play with my 360 controller, and an FPS game is better with a mouse and keyboard, so the console fans would have to suffer if they made the on foot mode FPS based

I think that Gareth Edmondson has a good idea about what the (Real) fans want and that is a Driver game which is more focused on driving, of course he understands that the on foot mode is still important which is why they completely overhauled it in Driver Parallel Lines

As for the Driver WiKi well I personally dont think that I would be the right kind of person to do that, I'm sure that it will be good, but I would be better at fiding the news, and not so great at writing the story about it, But if I find some big news then once the Drive WiKi is setup then D'Madness would be the first person that I would inform about it,

Especially when you consider that madness is one of the longest/biggest fans of the Driver series, and he knows quite alot about the Driver games, So he could write a good story about any news on the Driver games pretty much!

I also forgot to mention, I have been looking into php lately too, just starting out with it. Up until a few weeks ago I only knew basic html, but thanks to w3schools.com I've been looking into xml, xsl, javascript, and php. A little AJAX too. Only problem with the latter ones is to test any code I need to upload it first. I realize there are programs to skip this, but I really don't feel like bothering with it too much.

I've always been a fan of the driving sections first, but I'd like the option to do other things too. Limiting the game is not an option to me.

Hi Nickin, fansites are set up, and run by gamers from the community who have a particular love for the game whether it be Driver or another title.

All fansites are different and while some work closely with the developers and publishers of the title they celebrate others have a more distant relationship. Both however are independent of Ubisoft

Because each community is so very different they often attract a different type of community member so you can find a big crossover in membership of some fansites to official forums while others appear completely different, both however can be invaluable Smile
