I was reading some wishlists here, and I noticed that some of your wishs makes it so similiar with GTA. Buy clothes? Aw c'mon, it's not GTA San Andreas or something like that. And them latter, sites like Gamespot call Driver a GTA clone, and you doesn't like it.
|
||
|
I don't see the point in it either, but some people asked for it so I included it in my wishlist to make them happy.
As far as the term GTA Clone goes, I think from now on Driver will pretty much always resemble GTA. I don't want it to take the same route as GTA seems to be though, you can use a fake internet in GTA4, dating, weightlifting, all that stuff is stupid to me, why would anyone want to do that in a game? |
||||
|
I think that stuff would make the game fairly interested.
More like life, itself... without restrictions and that's what people want. But Driver is a driving game and it should focus solely on driving. In true reality they shouldn't have called that other game, Grand Theft Auto. People who buy the game think the entire games about stealing other cars and the game feels nothing like Gone in 60 Seconds, for that I much prefer driver. As long as its developers continue focusing on the driver aspects. Hopefully focusing on vehicle physics/realism. |

I hate when I read magazines or websites which say that "there is a new version of the GTA Clone 'Driver' coming out soon"
If they do their research they will find that GTA is more of a Driver clone, (Maybe GTA is more successful but thats no reason to say that Driver is a GTA Clone) Driver 1 was the first 3D Driving SandBox title, and Driver 2 was the First 3D driving SandBox title with the abillity to exit you cars and then GTA3 was the 3rd 3D Sandox title and basically they cloned Driver and just added one or two of their features to it, such as shooting So obviously, GTA is a Driver Clone! if it wasn't for Driver the GTA would still be a top down birds eye view game... ------------------------------ AMD Phenom 9600 Black Edition ATI RADEON HD 4870 4GB DDR2 RAM MSI K9A2 Platinum 1TB/1000GB Hard Drive space Windows 7 (RTM/Build 7600)x64 |

Unlikely, however I do know that if the GTA series never existed Reflections would have added more freedom to the game. There was a logical formula. Driver 1 They started off with a driving game where you couldn't exit the car. Driver 2 They wanted to give the player more freedom, so they allowed them to exit the vehicle. Driver 3 They figured if you could exit the car why not add tools that would allow you to blow them up. Driver: Parallel Lines The same as driv3r but enhanced for gameplay. and really I would never say a game is ever cloning another game. Unless it's really similar. Maybe The Wheelman is cloning Driver and Burnout, but you still couldn't call it a clone. |

|
|
|
The term "Clone" is attached to another game, anytime a leading game has too many features copied by another game.
Thankfully, Driver Parallel Lines ("GTA Clone") is actually a much better driving game compared to the 'toy car'driving controls of the GTA series. So even though it looks cartoony and has pedestrians that spew out stupid comments every five seconds, it's clear Reflections owns the driving department, even compared to GTA4. -------------- Next Driver: Interior DASH view, Free Roam TAG MODE chases, Miles of Backroads, Intense Speed-Edge of your seat Action, MAJOR Crash Impacts, day/night cycle, tons of customizable options, lots of stunts, ON FOOT in FPS view/overthe shoulder RE4 style, sportbikes, more car camera views, "Drop a RAMP" Cheat, fun vehicle chases where THE CAR is the Weapon, not a gun... |

I think the argument of who went 3D first is null. Of course Rockstar always had it in mind to make GTA 3D, they probably didn't have enough money to make such a big game 3D back then, whereas Driver had predecessors Destruction Derby and Shadow of the Beast[?] to take revenue from to pay the artists/programmers.
Driver, a GTA clone? Maybe, but its still a decent game. Before I ever knew what GTA was, I did want guns in Driver, mostly due to Metal Gear Solid. That game was sweet. This was after Driver 2 had included on foot. And if you look at other genres, theres plenty of similar games out, but you never hear GT4 being called a clone of PGR4, and yet they both look very boring and similar. Its just the birth of a new genre, what GTA doesn't do right, others will try to fill that void. So Driver has always been the physics king of free roam to me, and thats probably my favorite thing about it. GTA is the gameplay king I must admit. Only other one I've played was The Getaway, that was pretty dull too, but nice graphics. |

Yeah, 3D is a step up from 2D, but the concept of free roam driving is still the same. Gran Turismo's main "clone" would be another simulation driving game like Forza 2 on the 360, and could be considered a 'clone'. PGR3, 4 are more like arcade games on a track. ---------- Open map driving/on foot is now a genre (Open World Driving game?), much like any sports game, where developers are free to take a shot at the genre, and try to make the best game they can make for the gamers. I think the one that is most popular generally is the one all others are compared to, in this case GTA, "Everything else is a "Clone", even if it preceded GTA3 (Driver 1 and 2). |

I guess you can't convince all the nay-sayers, all that can be done is make the next game the best free roamer yet, that'll put to rest all the clammering clone-heads.. at least until GTA4:Vice City comes out, with more girlfriends, burgers, and internet than ever!!!!1!111one

One thing this whole "clone" topic brings up is the value for originality in games. If someone says "That game's just a clone of GTA", it's like saying that game owes everything to GTA, and can't compare.
But is originality what makes a game great? Otherwise, the whole fact anyone includes a vehicle in their game is unoriginal, and a ripoff of the first driving game ever made back in 1960-something. Along that line of thinking, nothing gets accomplished if basing your work on previous advances in the industry is a problem. Of course if the game truly does stink, then "Clone" is much easier to attach to a "GTA-Clone" game. But I really don't care what's a clone or not, just make a great game Developers. |

One way to differentiate Driver from GTA is, since Tanner is an undercover cop, after every mission, you would have to fill out paperwork on what happened. Depending on how the mission ended, you would have to go to court for the trial of the perp, or sometimes go visit them in jail. Or if you killed them you would have to go to their funeral.
I think this would be a wise decision for Reflections to look deeper into the role of the undercover cop. ALSO! I just thought of this: repairing your car! Only instead of just taking it to a garage, you would have to do it all yourself. Rotating the right stick would control your wrench so you could unbolt things to clean them out. You could walk to the auto store to buy new parts, make sure you buy the correct one! Thats always a pain buying the wrong ones! Then you have to walk all the way back. Anyway, these are just a few options Reflections should look into for future games. Good luck Reflections! |

Well, GTA already has nearly every sensible, and senseless thing.
Driver with prettier graphics, better controls, improved AI and another set of limited cities just isn't really going to help it compete with anything. GTA has already done so much. Driver originally gave the 3D driving in open cities, but GTA has far surpassed it. And this is coming from mouth of Driver-pro. GTA is ok, but I'm waiting to see another Driver game. Luckily the core wish list for Driver is short: 1. Improve on foot by a mile, like Splinter Cell controls with hand to hand combat. 2. Improve AI, like real life fleeing, taking cover, having teamwork and 100 other things. 3. Improve overall athmosphere and smoothness. Reconizable buildings, full 1st person view on foot and in car. 4. Good, deep, attracting and long story. Meaning good city/cities too. 5. Overall makeover and feature add. Car radios, glitches taken off etc. So basically make a masterpiece-like story, and then build the game around it. All the environments and actions suited. Driver and Reflections can't stay inferior just because they might copy couple of things from other games, namely GTA. Some of the suggestions given as "this isn't in GTA" are just horrible. Warning: Everything above is an opinion The show must go on What is this Splinter Cell you talk about? |

LOL. Got a good laugh from that. Good one. Better yet, have a mini game where you have a line up of 20 different hamburgers, and it's up to Tanner to uncover the one that has onions in it, and it switches to another burger each time you play(I'm kidding of course, those types of games need to stay in GTA, not in Driver). You do make a good point though, those types of mini-games have nothing to do with driving, and really didn't appear in DPL thankfully, so the term "clone" isn't as accurate as some made DPL out to be(despite the cartoony graphics), and the driving kicked GTA's *ss. -------------- Next Driver: Interior DASH view, Free Roam TAG MODE chases, Miles of Backroads, Intense Speed-Edge of your seat Action, MAJOR Crash Impacts, day/night cycle, tons of customizable options, lots of stunts, ON FOOT in FPS view/overthe shoulder RE4 style, sportbikes, more car camera views, "Drop a RAMP" Cheat, fun vehicle chases where THE CAR is the Weapon, not a gun... |
|||
|
.. Or instead of cut scenes, you would interact by typing everything Tanner says into a text box, then a robot voice reads it, and whoever he's talking to would respond realistically.

GTA is anything but realistic, but somehow all the cartoon violence seems to make it really popular. Or is it the fact that you can do anything you want really, violent or not in the game? There's no doubt it's an innovative series, but with GTA4, it feels like it took a slight step backwards, offering hints of all the things you used to be able to do in GTA:SA. But sometimes simpler is better. At least they finally got the on foot shooting down pat. Too bad they didn't leave out the 'dating' junk.
I think it's trying to be "The Sims" a little bit. |

No, I don't think its the cartoon violence, its just a fun game with lots of options for gameplay. Well, seemingly plenty. There is of course weightlifting, surfing the net, dating, eating, all that crap that is not really gameplay at all, not in my book. But the beauty is you don't have to play those parts (except some cases where its required to move on). Then it sucks.
Cheat codes that alter the gameplay help too. |

Just realism, and longer lasting gameplay. This new Driver cannot imitate too much of Grand theft Auto. It was always a Driving game. But if we remember back to those who played the Driver game for playstation and at a cost of £45 at the time. I do believe it was that price. What did most of us do besides drive around? That is all I really ended up doing. I never really went for the film director. It was never the attraction. Back in that game it was the braking fences that was the spark. Eitherway, times change, so it is difficult to just have a simple game and expect it to last for months. Its like this then that, then oh no not down that road. We Driver fans, how small we may be can't seem to win without too much of something from another game going into a simple game to make it much more interesting and long lasting. DRIVER THE WHEELMAN, NOT THE GUNMAN WAS IT FIRST NAME
Hey. I have played Driver since the first one came out AND You guys are looking at the wrong way of Driver today, Driver is Not about hiting people whit the Car, it´s Not about shooting guns, it´s Not a violence game, and it´s not Lamboogins and 2-pac. That´s allso nice, but This is not the Chase, want That go and buy GTA. THE GAME was And Should be Contined as BLUES and Muscle cars that you are Drifting away from the cops in a bankrobbery in a nice bright town like Miami, or in a ruff Detroit Motor City. Whises: I Wish, Driver Should Go back to what it use to be CARS. And you should be able to Buy/steale and Custominize your car in detalj. Not only in styling, in performence tunning even like Gran Turismo. You should think of every aspekt of the car when you modifie it, and you will se change when you do it. You should even have to think of passagers sit, how many can you get in (most of missions on person). And you should be able to take your car to any city that´s in the game. Directors cut, you should be able to make your own mocies like use to. My Carlist 1970 Cheavrolet malibu 1931 A-Ford 3w (hot rod) 1970 Plymouth Cuda Hemi 1969 Chevrolet Stingray 1959 Caddilac Deville 1963 Chevrolet Stingray 1971 Dodge Charger 1968 Dodge Charger 1955 Cheavrolet Bel Air. 1970 Plymouth Superbird New Cars are nice to, but I think this isent the case, buy GTA. And It´s not a spellingcontest. Cheears mate, peace and love |
