What are your thoughts on the trailer for GTAIV? I thought that it was mighty impressive. The graphics make the game feel very alive and that goes the same for how everything moves in the game. It's possible that this game will truly feel like a living-breathing city and that it will have it done it before any other game can do as good as Rockstar North is aiming for.

Now I really begin to wonder how much harder it will get for Reflections on the next-gen consoles because Rockstar North is now starting to look and feel just as realistic as what is seen in the Driver series, so it will be a lot harder for Driver to become a GTA killer on the PS3 or any other console that it might also come out for.

If you still haven't seen the trailer, go here.

Not impressed.

I went in more depth on this subject in another thread, so I'll just get straight to the point:

*Graphics not cartoony
*If its supposed to be Liberty City, it looks nothing like it, which sucks, because I am SOOOOOOO tired of NYC. Get an orignal idea!

We'll see what gameplay it has to offer later.

Well if you look at the church and the one block with all those billboards and that one Clutchin' Bell, it looks a lot like Liberty City. That's not to say that every location will be the same. I'm sure that there will be new areas added for the game. Anyways, it's alright that they've decided on Liberty City. After all, this is their first take on going into the 7th generation and they might want to start off a little easy for themselves.

If GTA III was such a big influence on other games when it came out for the PS2, then maybe this next GTA game will also be able to do that for both the PS3 and Xbox 360. I hope that it also comes out for the PC, so people can mod the game.

We'll see how far they got into the depth of gameplay. GTA3 was deep at the time, but times change. They're gonna have to get elaborate with the gameplay to stay on top, which so far, they've shown they can't. All they do is add more stuff, they don't make it so you can mix two different gameplay elements at the same time, unless it happens to be shooting while driving/flying the rocket pack, and those need serious upgrades.

In SA, you still couldn't shoot while jumping, running (unless it was a weak weapon), and you had to hold a button to aim, what a waste of a button! You couldn't turn and run backwards while shooting, which is usually where your opponents would be if you started running from them.

And Rockstar does read fan boards, sure the PS2 was weak, PS3/X360 can handle more commands and routines, so they should be able to get the deeper gameplay of which I speak, and pretty much all GTA fans have been asking for it.

You know, that speech right at the end kind of gave me hope. It could be a good game.

Yes, I agree. It gives you more hope when you hear those words "Things Will be Different" from the main character of the game, which seems
as if we'll be able to expect a lot more from Rockstar North. The technology for the PS3 and Xbox 360 is much bigger than that of the 6th generation consoles, so I'm hoping that they will be able to get a lot more done for their games.

Thats funny you mention "Things will be different", because I read on that GTA website (whose link you posted) several days before the trailer was released that Rockstar said the same thing about the game, "Things will be different." Obviously its a quote of the character, but because Rockstar used it also, maybe they will tread more ground this time.

The GTA IV trailer sucked. I wish it was the real NYC, not that stupid-ass Liberty City again. Like how the Metlife Building says "Getalife". So it looks like the Comedy of the game is going to be as $#!++y as the comedy from the other GTA games (very corny/unfunny comedy and parodies). Plus, I think GTA IV will be cancelled because the government hates the series. Yes, I am for the cancellation of GTA IV, R* North should quit while they're ahead.

I wonder if you'll be able to eat a cheesburger while driving a train? They should make the trains with the most complex assortment of buttons like valve pressures, etc. just to piss people off.

Well it looks like there will be subway trains in the game. I hope there aren't just for riding. But I don't know if they will have locomotives like steam, diesel, or electric. And eating while driving huh? That would be convinent, but you'd have to concentrate on 2 things at the same time. I don't think that it would piss players off if R* added more realistic operable controls in the train's cabs, I think it would be challenging.

Now, I'm sorry that I'm against GTA IV. It's not just out of jealousy since I'm a Driver fan. But I think GTA IV will only bring R* North closer to bankrupcy. Have you seen the news lately? I'm not joking, pretty much every week in video game news, something comes up about R* and the GTA lawsuits.

Now on to a more positive topic, the cars in the GTA IV trailer look licensed. I saw a Chrysler 300C, and many Ford Crown Victoria cabs. Or are the cars based on the real things entirely and they took the logos and insignias off of them?

Personally, I believe that the graphics engine is looking very remarkable. The trailer did impress me when I was able to see it. And despite the fact that it's taking place in Liberty City again, I have confidence that because of the phrase "things will be different", it will allow for a much bigger experience than ever before, so it doesn't matter that it's set in the same place again.

Look at The Legend of Zelda games. They've always taken place in the land of Hyrule and that doesn't seem to bother anyone. If the GTA games provide even more gameplay after each console version and are able to introduce more new things, I'm pretty sure that this and graphics as well as the controls, replay value, and sound, will be enough to make them almost perfect for a game. No game is ever perfect, but it can come close to that and I think that R* North will be able pull that off.

That was the first time I watched the trailer in your link. Other times I watched it on YouTube and it was dark and you couldn't make out the details as well, it does look a bit more cartoony now. Hmm.. X360 or PS3???

I know that the trailer was not done by rendering. It was actually gameplay footage running on a console. The real question is, which console was it running on? That is something that R* North didn't share with us.

I'm thinking that the PS3 will get better at around Q4 of 2007 or sometime early in 2008. Sony is doing their best to try and make solutions for themselves on what issues they are suffering from. Instead of making a 80 GB PS3, which is what I heard as an article on Gamespot, they should wait and try their best to drop the price sooner than Microsoft. If Sony is able to get a better price drop than Microsoft by the end of this year, I think that they will be seeing more PS3 sales and considering the fact that there are probably more Sony fans, it's possible that they can get the PS3 to sell really well.

Personally, I just want the PS3 to start getting better because otherwise, it's a waste to buy it, but then again, you think of all those great games that are coming out for it including Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo 5, Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and many more. I am eventually going to buy all 3 consoles and play there games to see their strengths and weaknesses in the Video Game Industry, which then will allow me to know what to do for each of my games in the future.

They're not dropping the PS3 price for a long time, its way too soon, the console just released in Europe last week. They're already loosing around $100 a console just to have the price point as low as it is (which is low for the expensive components)

If I was gonna get a PS3, I'd get the smaller HD version, because 20GB is still a lot, and I don't really see how I'd fill that up on a game machine. Also its $100 cheaper than the 60GB. I don't plan to play too many games, but if there are lots of good ones, who knows.

Hey everybody, I haven't been on for quite a while as I was for some reason, couldn't log onto the Ubisoft forums...

Anyway, I agree with Slayer_591, it does get a little boring after a while. And as far as the next-gen consoles go, it may look slightly cartoony, but look at Saints Row, etc. But that don't matter to me much, it's the gameplay that matters to me most. And so far from what the GTA IV trailer shows the gameplay has allot of promisses.

By this month (or whenever) the next issue of Gameinformer will have up to 10 pages of GTA IV info, or so I've heard... Then we'll know for sure if this game is improving on gameplay. But compared to San Andreas, they are improving on graphics.

While watching the trailer I noticed some very interaction with the environment like how the pedestrians doing things (or looked like they were) where it showed them at the docks near that ship (kinda looked like they were picking things up and carrying them). If you guys would ever post in the Neoseeker forums--they've been posting some interesting pictures of the HD version and have been spotted many interesting things like what I just said, and we've spotted some birds sitting on a statue (where it shows that foreign guy, if he's the main character) and those birds looked like they were just as real as can be, and then there is that 'Ferry Terminal' taht it shows...could me something, eh? So for me, there is hope.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and for those who don't know, it is Liberty City. Because it says 'Liberty City' on the back of a container ship near the docks (on the trailer).

Life is like a road.

The only questions remain are, what will the gameplay be like and what else can we expect from Rockstar North other than the awesome graphics?

Yeah, all mayors of New York must be pissed (current and past). Ol' La Guardia must be rolling in his grave. And the fact that you play as a muslim terrorist (I'm not being racist) just makes me sick. It was Bin Laden's fault (an infamous muslim terrorist) that the Twin Towers burned down to the ground. Hell, I'd rather play as CJ from San Andreas instead of this guy who might be f**king connected to Al Queda.

I know about the words and things found within in the trailer since I read about it all on Planet Grand Theft Auto, but what we need to know is what is the time period? What is the story? Will there be multiplayer? How many missions are there? What ethnicity is the main character? Some say that he is from a part of Eastern Europe while others say that he's hispanic or even a Muslim. The only way that we'll know is until we get more information about the game.

Edit: There is a May Issue of GI and it's supposed to have 10 pages on screens and details about GTA IV. I'm subscribed to GI, so I'm definitely going to get it soon. I can't wait to read up on the game!
