I mentioned this earlier this year, but now I'm going to mention it in detail. "Driver: 2008" is my vision for a sequel to D:PL on the PSP. If they came out with a prequel to D:PL on the PSP (Driver 76), then it's time to make a sequel. The game is set in the same place (New York and New Jersey) in 2008. It starts at the very end of 2007, so it's going to be a harsh, cold, and bitter winter.

The game plays like D:PL. So there would be no front-end menu, and you can access missions and side missions at any time.

You will still see the "Survivors" from D:PL. So you'll play as TK, and Ray and Maria will still be in it. Yes people, Ray survived. If you watch the cutscene carefully where he gets shot, he was shot in the gut and neck, you can survive if you get shot in those places. Bottom line, Ray survived to see 2008. Ray won't customize your rides though (because he's cripled), some young guy does customizing for Ray. They guy's name is "Chabillionaire", he's 30, and yes, he does look like Chamillionaire the rapper. The Carlotti Brothers will be in it too, and I'll explain that too.

Here's the story, after "Finishing the Jobs" in 2006, more crime breaks out. You hook up with your buddies from back in the day, the Carlotti Brothers. The Carlotti Brothers (Santino and Michael) are now New York's biggest Mafia gang (after being involved for more than 30 years) stationed in Little Italy. They want you back, TK. The Carlotti Brothers want to take down all of the Mafia, Triad, and Yakuza gangs in New York. Not motivating you? Well then, there's a pretty chick involved. Her name is Angela, she's Italian-American, and she's Michael's daughter. So if you really help the Carlotti Brothers out, you might win Angela after all, so what if you're 20 years older than her?! She's a HOT girl in the cold winter!

The Northeastern United States is FREEZING COLD in the winter. So there should be snow on the ground (even some snow here-and-there on some of the roads and railroad tracks). The rivers should be iced over, allowing for some ice driving (like in Stuntman). Although ocean water won't be frozen, it'll just be cold, and even fatal if you're in it too long. It should also snow here-and-there, and the game time should be 1 hour on earth=1 hour in the game (realistic). And since how the water's iced over, we should be able to go to Ellis Island, FDR Island, Governer's Island, Randall's Island, Liberty Island and Rikers Island!

You should be able to ride trains/subways this time (if you want to in your free time). It'll make New York feel more like "New York". If there's enough room on the PSP controls, I'd like to see a jump button too. And I'd like to see some more map modifications to New York and New Jersey, making it look a little more like the real New York City/Jersey Shore map. The race tracks and the Hudson Tunnel should be removed and replaced with REAL roads in New York or New Jersey.

All of the vehicles from D:PL should be back. But subtract the following:
All "Punk" vehicles
The Mexican's Ride
The Wayfarer Turbo (play Driver 76 or D:PL for that)
All Race cars (I would like them back, but being realistic in terms of space, remove them)
The Pimp Wagon (waste of space, customize the Montara with the same bodywork)
San Marino Spyder (why would you drive with the top down in the cold winter?)
The Negotiator (driving this thing without a second analog stick won't work out too well)

Now add the following vehicles:
Grand Valley (hard top, subtract the soft top)
Rosalita (hard top, subtract the soft top)
GBi-12
A 2002 Nissan Skyline looking car
A 2006 Pontiac Solstice looking car
A 2004 Hummer H2 looking SUV
A 1966 Cadillac Coupe Deville looking car
A 2003 Nissan 350Z looking car
A 2007 Dodge Nitro looking SUV
A 1970 Chevy Chevelle looking car
A 1946 Buick Packard looking car
A 2005 Ford Mustang looking car
A 1996 Chevy Impala looking car (both civilian and cop versions)
A 2000 Chevy Impala looking car (both civilian and cop versions)
A 1973 Dodge Challenger looking car
A 1974 Dodge Monaco looking car (both civilian and cop versions)
A 1972 Chevy Nova looking car
A 1979 Buick Regal looking car
A 2003 Jeep Liberty looking SUV
A 2006 Chevy Trailblazer looking SUV
A snowmobile
A snow plow truck
Torrex (taxi, civilian, and cop versions)

The soundtrack should have all of the songs back from D:PL (both 1978 and 2006). But with a few more songs:
"Ridin'" by Chamillionaire
"Mr. Blue Sky", Turn to Stone", "Sweet Talking Woman", "Don't Bring Me Down", and "Evil Woman" by ELO
"The Boss" by James Brown
"New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra
"Changes", and "Dancing in the Street" by David Bowie
"This is How We Do" by 50 Cent
"Pain" by Jimmy Eat World
"Real Big" by Mannie Fresh
"You're the First, My Last, My Everything" and "Can't Get Enough of Your Love Babe" by Barry White

The soundtrack should be customizable with songs from your PSP.

The vehicle customization should stay the same as in D:PL (although I want more, I'm just being PSP-realistic here).

The controls should be the same as in Driver 76, but make the right button the horn button. I hate applying the handbrake to sound the horn in Driver 76. The left button should be the "switch weapon" button. The Select button should be the change view button (with bumper cam, first person cam, and third person cam). The start button should be map/pause menu.

All of the weapons from D:PL (both 1978 and 2006) should return, but I'd also like a silenced pistol in there too.

Well, I put a lot of effort into this thread. So, do you like my big idea here? I hope most of these ideas are accepted. And if the sales are good for this game, then Reflections and Ubisoft should make Playstation 2/3, Wii, PC and XBOX 1/360 versions too.

Now when you talk about "Driver: 2008" in this thread, you are talking about THIS GAME. Not Driver 4/5 (the "Real" "Next" Driver game). We're talking about this so-called "Fundraiser". Please respect that rule, thanks!

You may want to add the word dpl(spoiler) somewhere at the top of the post because you know that not everyone has completed dpl and they may not want to know what happened too... you know, even though you think he didn't. That's why TK kicked him to make sure...

anyways
Some nice ideas here.
But I think reflections really need to leave the dpl scene and work on something entirely new and different.

They really need more of an idea which will really show the world what driver can do and make the game popular again. I just looked at the recent gamespot pc review. Most of it was a load of **** but some parts you could marginally believe but not as much as they made it feel while reading it.

They just say the way the game has a 5 year old mission structure and I kind of agree but no other games really do any good anyways. They all seem the same. But to build on, they need to create a mission structure with different outcomes within and without the missions.

So in a mission you should have many different ways to complete it rather than one way.

So if you need to put a bomb in a car to make it explode you should be able to choice from some options. Like getting it fitted professionally. Fitting one yourself and/or doing something else which will explode the people. Just having a tree structure of possibilities in a mission.

You have some good ideas in your post like the frozen water, however I don't think old generation consoles could handle doing such a thing without it looking **** and ultra unrealistic. I think it's a job only for next-gen consoles and top of the range pc's.

Sorry if I gave too much away about the second half of D:PL. I thought most of us completed it already. I appologize.

And I had no idea the PSP was considered to be an "Old" console. I know it's small, but a lot can fit on a UMD disc (as so I heard). But it would also be great on the modern-day home consoles.

I thought this would be a good project for Reflections and Ubisoft to work on. The story continues 2 years after D:PL, and we get the story about the Carlotti Brothers (remember how TK mentioned them at the start of D:PL?). I would love to play Driver: 2008 if it was the way I thought of it! One part I like about it most is the ice and snow driving, I wish the 2006 part of D:PL had that.

I must say it is a good idea, however I don't see it being a really big hit. After what reviews like "Gamespot" always say. I guess it's just professional reviews bring complete idiots but something like this will give them more reason to ***** because it'd be pretty much the same as the previous game with a new face lift.

On the same kind of line, I always was stunned at driv3r's fmv's and with those highly rendered cities could play on this newer generation of consoles it'd be great.

If there's a DPL2 for PS2 or 360, I'd buy it guaranteed.

One feature I forgot to share with you all is the star system. There will be 125 stars scattered across the map (like in Driver 76). But this time, the stars help the gameplay out (unlike in Driver 76). With each star, you can earn a new piece of clothing or hair/face style. At your safehouses, you'll have a closet where you can get changed. There will be a variety of clothing to choose from (hats, glasses, shirts, pants, shoes, jackets, etc), and all the clothing is winter style. You can also change your hair style, and in addition to that, you can change the style of your facial hair (or perhaps none at all). Once you get all the stars, you'll be awarded a new concept car (I was thinking either a 2008 Dodge Challenger looking car or a 2009 Chevy Corvette looking car).

The concept car is a great idea, but I a way to change clothing wouldn't work out to good. Another reason for gta fans to piss off everyone else in the driver communities and so on and the game couldn't work with FMV's if Reflections wanted to continue and take that approach, they couldn't have a fmv for each particular clothing. Since an FMV is a pre-rendered video and that quality you see can't be changed in anyway unless it looked no better than the game and the game rendered it.

So if we follow on with the concept car idea then were on a role in my opinion.

The reason why I mentioned the idea of earning apparallel and hair/facial hair styles is because in Driver 76, you can earn clothing by collecting stars. It's very dumb in Driver 76. You can't even wear the clothes you earned. So why the f**k did they put the stars in the game? Or why the f**k can't we change our outfits in Driver 76 when we earned "New Clothing"? It's a waste. So what I did was make it more "Useful". Sorry if you aren't satisfied. I like it, I could make TK look like a wreckless wheelman (like in the 2006 part of D:PL), or with a 70s style outfit (like in the 1978 part of D:PL), or as professional mafia gangster (like a black suit and tie). The possibilities are endless!

Now about a new concept car after earning stars, I can't decide between a 2008 Dodge Challenger or a 2009 Chevy Corvette, they're both awesome looking cars! It would be nice if you could maybe win both, and they'll have a new classification in the garage, that being "Concept".

One Thing I'd add was Tanner coming in. A lot of people want him back. He could work into the storyline by asking you if you want to help him target come criminals in NY. There could be a two way storyline where you could either take down the Carlotti Brothers and become a police officer with Tanner or not get involved with Tanner and he would take them down himself with T.K. escaping or they would escape. Also a Ford Crown Victoria looking car (civilan/police) would be good too. Also I'd like it if they had a S.W.A.T. van that was more realistic looking and actually had more then two S.W.A.T. team officers in it. There should be driveable trains and airplanes/helicopters. Another thing they should add would be semi trucks with trailers, not just the cab. Also I like the idea of a customizeable player. T.K. wasn't that great looking in 2006 and it would be cool if you could buy clothing at stores or win it in missions or getting stars.

Well actually, Tanner wouldn't be in New York in 2008, you know why? Because he's in Los Angeles in 2008 in Driver: LA Undercover.

Plus, if you're sentenced to time in prison (in the United States), it will really screw your life forever. You can't be in law enforcement, the military, go to college, etc. So I don't think TK would ever be a cop. The story would be more like Driver 76's. You're not a "Cop Killer" this time. All you're doing is taking down the rival gangs (like in Driver 76), and hopefully winning the girl! You can complete the story without popping one cap in a cop's ass (I was able to do that in Driver 76).

D:PL did have truck trailers, but they were rare. I'd like to see 18 wheelers actually haul trailers in traffic in Driver: 2008. And the SWAT van in D:PL did look like a real SWAT van. I saw a similar looking one in The Blues Brothers movie (it looked very identical actually).

Now I do want to drive trains and fly planes in Driver: 2008, but considering how it would be on the PSP, it would just be too much code to make, though I still support having drivable trains and flyable trains in the rest of the Driver series.

Usually up here in Canada, where I live, the vans are usually built off of larger GMC vans or international trucks.

Examples

http://www.sccfd.org/originals/campbell_swat.jpg

Also it could be after Tanner was done in 2008 and I forgot about the criminal record on T.K. so maybe Tanner could be an antagonist in the game who you could barely miss killing and he would escape and maybe get into more games.

similar to what you just said.
However TK should just miss killing you and then you go back to the story in Tanners life.

So you follow a story with TK then find Tanner and kill him.

Then.

You follow the story of Tanner and TK tried to kill you at the end of the story.

Then at the end both characters collide in a highly detailed fmv full of car chases and pure action, were we then discover TK's and Tanners fate in the driver series.

Well, there is the "Tanner Lives" grafitti in the 2006 part of D:PL. So I guess that does leave us in suspense of the next Driver game. But the fact that Driver: LA Undercover is set in 2008 means that Driver: 2008 would have to be a completely different story (being about 3000 miles away in New York City). So overall, I don't think it would be "Historically Accurate" if Tanner was to return. The main characters in Driver: 2008 should be the following:

TK (playable character, back from D:PL)
Ray (back from D:PL, but in a wheelchair because of his "Injuries" 2 years ago)
Maria (back from D:PL, she'll help you out and she's currently Chabillionaire's girlfriend)
Chabillionaire (Ray's new and younger mechanic with a "Bling-bling" style, he'll customize for you)
Michael Carlotti (One of the Carlotti bosses)
Santino Carlotti (Another Carlotti boss)
Angela Carlotti (Michael's Daughter, the girl of TK's dreams [very slender, has long-blond hair, and green eyes])

A couple "Mysteries" that should be revealed in Driver: 2008 are the town and state that TK and Ray are from, TK's real name, and Ray's last name. This way, the mysteries are over.

Oh, it's OK motocross299. You can talk about the cars you want to see in future Driver games here. But you can post your ideas in this thread if you want. We're talking about "Driver: 2008" which is [supposed to be] a sequel to Driver: Parallel Lines in this thread. So it's OK, your post wasn't off topic.

There, I hope that helps!Wink

Clothing options definitely give the character more style options, which make the game more fun to play if you like the style of your main character, whether it's a "Jericho" style trenchcoat, mafia suits, or whatever kind of wardrobe you'd like to see your character in, such as racing gear with a helmet, plain clothes, police uniform, etc.

The option gives the game more character and replayability.

One thing I forgot to put in the first post was that the trees should have no leaves in them. That's one thing that they missed in the 2006 part of D:PL, making the trees non-leaved. I sure hope Driver: 2008 has no trees with leaves in them (if they make the game that is).

You're welcome, motocross299! But I believe your post was still on topic.

I'd like to have snowmobiles and snow plow trucks too in Driver: 2008 (since it would be set in the cold winter). And when you walk on snow or ice, you shouldn't go to fast because you might slip and fall (this would be another cool feature). I believe Manhattan most of the time has no snow on the roads in the winter because of all of the traffic that melts the snow and ice (same on the freeways). But the rivers should definetly be iced over, and the places outside of Manhattan should have more snow and ice on the roads.
