Hi guys, Having just started to use this game I have a few questions. I know there is online play but how do I get involved.
Are there open rooms? How do you guys talk to each other as this doesnt have an ingame communication facility? Do I need to download other files to play online? I guess you have squads on here and play together against ai enemy using mission files ? I could use as much help as anyone can spare lol,Jim |

HI mate, and welcome to the best and most realistic WW2 air combat sim!
Online play is really good. Check what settings you want to fly with and maybe practice offline a little so that you can take off, shoot down planes etc. To play online download Hyperlobby from www.hyperfighter.sk and install it. Join Hyperlobby (HL) and choose the Forgotten battles room, not Il2. You will see all the forgotten battles servers on the left hand side, pick one with a good ping and settings that you want and you are away. One point I must make, at default install you can only see one line of chat and this is very bad. Open the chat box and drag the corner of window bigger with the mouse as you would in windows. Make it so you can see 6 lines instead. Now you will be able to ask questions and see server messages. Others will be along shortly to help out a bit more, but I hasve just given you the bare instructions to get online. ------------------------------------------------------------- "Over Dieppe, the wing was immediately bounced by a hundred FW 190s and a few Me 109s. I heard Johnson effing and blinding as he broke 610 into a fierce attack. I was hard at it dodging 190s, but I found time to speak sharply to Johnson about his foul language." - WingCo Jaime Jameson 12 Group Spitfire |

Hallo, and welcome to the madhouse!
Most fly on-line via a program called Hyperlobby. You can find the program at http://hyperfighter.sk/ For talking to each other most use Teamspeak, It's a free program, you only need headphones and a microphone. The game needs to be patched to the latest regular version. The patches are free. There is a range of squadrons. Some fly co-ops, other fly against each other. There's an on-line war system called scorched earth, that will allow two squadrons to play out a whole campaign against each other on-line. Feel free to ask, the bunch here is mostly harmless. |

Hello James,
Two resources will have you online and killing opponents in no time flat. They are, the Nugget's Guide by Bearcat, found here: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/9121094645 ... and the Newbie's Guide to IL2 Online Dogfighting by Jay Hall, found here: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/2751038856 Hope this helps, Jay |

I'm also a newbie to online flying. I need to know how and when to adjust prop pitch. I'm tired of my wildcat being owned by a Val!

One of the best articles to help you get an initial feel for CEM and prop pitch can be found here:

Just a quick point, I am relatively succesful online, and I NEVER use prop pitch. It is absolutely not needed to be a good and successful fighter pilot in 90% of planes. Much more important are good energy management and good tactics. You dont even need to be good at dogfighting to be a succesful fighter pilot. Just a good shot, and use your head. ------------------------------------------------------------- "Over Dieppe, the wing was immediately bounced by a hundred FW 190s and a few Me 109s. hi
most servers have heir own websites which list ts e.g. http://www.war-clouds.com/index.php http://www.battle-fields.com/commscentre/showthread.php?t=13161 the TS is often included in the description of the server when you click on the server in hyperlobby a good thread on how to use teamspeak http://www.war-clouds.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=28 hope this helps |

In some of dogfight servers in Hyperlobby you will find the IP address and password pasted up in the introduction screen.
Other than that most squadrons have their own teamspeak servers but they would not be wise to paste their address and password up on a public forum. If you pm me your E-mail I'll send you test access to the Giap server when I finish work, alternatively, click on my badge to see what squadrons are about. |
