Would have saved some nasty head injuries IMHO.

No Need. They'd have burned to death from the unsealed fuel tank just ahead of the instrument panel long before they bumped their head.

Self sealing fuel tanks were added during the battle.

"Over Dieppe, the wing was immediately bounced by a hundred FW 190s and a few Me 109s. I heard Johnson effing and blinding as he broke 610 into a fierce attack. I was hard at it dodging 190s, but I found time to speak sharply to Johnson about his foul language." - WingCo Jaime Jameson 12 Group Spitfire

I like BOP terrain much better. Really. From above the terrain in SOW looks just like Il-2, or worse. And yes, colors still need A LOT of desaturation to look minimally realistic.

The cockpit looks also a bit like Il-2 good cockpits, with dials in "false" 3D textures a-la-Gladiator, which isn't good if it's gonna be a 6DOF capable game and you look at them not from a fixed perspective. Correct me if I'm wrong but IMHO there are many 3D-looking textures there instead of real 3D, and that's, well, obsolescent. Or maybe it's that the brilliant tones make it look a bit cartoonesque. But it's mostly OK.

Exterior of the planes is excellent, but a lot more of weathering is necessary. They look like they're brand new at a warbirds show, brightly waxed and polished.

As for the terrain, I absolutely hope that is an early alpha, just for testing. If not, then time has taken its toll on development, and we are waiting for an already aged product.

Right now, I must admit BoP looks overall better that this (alpha? beta?). Nothing to say about gameplay and other particularities since that is yet a mystery.

Great air and cockpit screen-shots, but the ground screens are terrible - grass of that hue exists in Far Cry only. Same for the rocks-and-sea screens. If this is BoB, then it needs to gain truckloads of gray, below the cloud base.
Someone invite Oleg over, to see what England actually looks like Smile

He won't have that excuse mate, as he has been here at least once already (Newcastle here) Smile I'm holding counsel till more screenies come out, we may be pleasantly surprised. But these shots look like something from the Stone age. Worrying stuff if it was 80% done in June/July.

+1 to DuxCorvan, BOP landscape blows it away at present.....Yeah I know eyecandy doth not a great sim make, but C'mon man. This is the "Mighty Maddox"! Maybe we are expecting too much, I don't know.

Fingers firmly crossed.

Dux, I don't think you need to worry about the weathering. I remember to have read somewhere that weathering progresses after several missions.

And actuallly the screenshot of the Friday Spitfire cockpit doesn't differ that much compared to the one shown from more than a year ago:

To be honest I don't see that much of a difference when comparing the dozens of screenshots from more than a year ago and the few ones from Friday the 23nd.
Let's hope that the upcoming screenies reveal more. Actually I thought that the Jurassic online map was a joke but... Blink
It's awful, looks like rubber rocks with plastic grass. Needs a lot of correction.

The colour of the grass needs serious work, but Oleg knows this already so hopefully all will be well. I was actually expecting shots that would blow the English landscape of "Birds of Prey" out of the water....slightly worrying at a 80% + completion stage (as he said a while back).

At the moment, BOP landscape looks far superior. Please god, let me be wrong......(I KNOW I am wrong! I'M WRONG ALL THE TIME. *rocks back and forth in foetal postion lol). Smile

The shots of the sunset through the clouds are very nice.

+1

+ another 1.

...best not say too much, we're probably looking at placeholder landscape details. I certainly hope so.

Great to see the update!! I was beginning to feel like He'd forgotten about it.
:-)

The 110 looks incredible, especially the sunlight and shadows on the nose from light passing through the cockpit.

The sunset: I think I only ever asked Oleg for a couple of things for SoW. One of these was to see clouds with 'silver linings' - Nice to know he was listening Veryhappy I hope they show during late evening too.

Altogether a mixed batch of screenshots I think.

What is BOP?I agree also...its not that good looking.Almost like they went with Ubisoft's "make the world cheery to make the player cheery" approach. That radiant green grass is horrid.Look at this guys work for the game Mount & Blade. Now this is what terrain should look like.Scroll down page.

Sadly that is not how the game ships looking as its an upcoming mod.

Look at difference from normal M&B to this mod coming up.

Sorry but that doesn't look like England. It look's like a cartoon, IL2: Birds of Prey is a better graphical representation of Britain than that. That's on a console and using and overhauled bog standard IL2 engine.

5 years for this? HAHAHAHA

You cannot compare a shot where the view distnce is only a mile or so, to a game where the player has to see 20 or 30 miles ahead in one shot.

Massive view distances in flight sims mean you cannot possibly get as good visual quality as ground based games where you see less than a km.

Some people are just showing how much they dont understand about game making. Ground based sims will ALWAYS look better than flight sims terrain. The closer the programmer gets to that ground based terrain with his air based game, the better programmer he is.

If true, it says enough about the SOW programmer. Some screenshots are visually completely out of balance: SOW meets Cartoon Network.

Rise of Flight may look good on a maxed out Quad core, and may work well as a sightseeing program, ie. flying around and looking at the scenery, but as a functional flight sim, the fact is the program is a poor one.

It takes forever to load, has the stupid online checking system before you can play offline, can't host anymore than 8 people online, and has a campaign enviroment which seems like a desert, no life or action at all.

Personally I think RoF is not even close to IL-2, at this point I would place odds on the AAA WWI mod being a better game.

Comparing RoF to what we will get in BoB SoW is really pushing it, as soon as BoB makes its appearance, RoF will disappear, never to be heard from again.

Sorry but even the Birds of Prey alpha shots looked better than this. Have you ever been to the UK? I can assure you that we do not have bright green grass and jungle like trees.

This looks like England, Oleg's god awful screens do not.

The new Oleg trees are scarey. Surprised

I don't think my fast computer will even be able to run this.

Being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, then grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way home, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV.
