Firing with tripod: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eKc18qVLno&NR=1
Firing without tripod: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...pQPY&feature=related The type 98 MG is an exact copy of the MG-15 using even the same 8 mm Mauser ammunition. Wish the fire with the tripod was also shot in first person view like the first one, so we could see what firing an real MG-15 looks like in terms of accuracy. |

Well my first impression is the drum magazine which stays out of ammo very fast.
In fact I already read it take 3 seconds of full auto fire to empty it. Hope that in SOW we have a frozen of fire to simulate the reload time. Also I'd like to make a question - I know there are many active or former military personal here, but find someone who already fire an MG-15 would be less likely, or even shooters who already experience firing some kind of drumm gun, so if anyone of you please can ask it I would be very glad, I know it is relative, but usually how many time you took to reload a drum? Wow those videos are awesome!
Also it shows how IL2 needs far more recoil and 'spread' for mounted guns. Right now they are just too acurate and its too easy to target an attacking aircraft from a mounted machine gun in all aircraft. ------------------------------------------------------------- "Over Dieppe, the wing was immediately bounced by a hundred FW 190s and a few Me 109s. I heard Johnson effing and blinding as he broke 610 into a fierce attack. I was hard at it dodging 190s, but I found time to speak sharply to Johnson about his foul language." - WingCo Jaime Jameson 12 Group Spitfire |

No ear protection for the Mg 42 shooters ears that I could see. I fear for at least tinnitus, in that mans future.

You generally don't reload drums except in down times. Even modern drums can be fairly time consuming to load (don't know how exactly the old drums were loaded, but I doubt it was any faster), and so if you want to shoot all drums, you load all of the ones you're going to shoot up ahead of time. That's why in pictures of german gunner positions, you'll see spare drums on the aircraft interior panels Waldo, you can see the back strap of a pair of ear plugs. I'd have doubled up for MG42s, but he is wearing protection. |

No, no, sorry. I used the wrong words, my English is horrible. I Mean, the time of replace a drum magazine by another. |

I think the accuracy displayed in the videos was impeded by the tripod they were using. It was jumping about like a mad thing.
If you compared that with the video of the browning MG that was on the same youtube page you can see how much more stable the tripod should be. I expect the mount in the aircraft would be a bit more secure??? |

That fellow has loads of great movies. Looks like I may use some of these for some new sounds.

First thing I noticed, it sounds band on with the 1969 BoB movie

He does have ear protection. You can see a yellow line leading from his ear which suggest a inner ear plug. |

For you guys who like these gun videos :-
I have always had a crush on the FG42, and am very interested in this rare weapon. Just found some videos of it being shot, its VERY rare, so its the first time I ever saw it. The FG42 was an attempt to make a small compact rifle which could fire the 7.92mm full size rifle round on full auto and semi, but full auto was described as pretty much useless because of the recoil, it being such a small weapon. Still, it was a very innovative weapon and the M60 incorporated some of its ideas into its design. Anyway, here are the videos... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...FS45mEvM&feature=fvw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...Tl2A&feature=related See the recoil, I could finally see why so many said that full auto is only marginly useful. The muzzle climb even after one shot puts the next way off target. Still, one of my favourite guns ever! ------------------------------------------------------------- "Over Dieppe, the wing was immediately bounced by a hundred FW 190s and a few Me 109s.
