I have followed your advice and installed the 4.09 patch, except now I cannot play online because all the servers I have tried are still running 4.08 and I get a version mismatch error when trying to join.

Just thought you might want to add something about that in your guide.

Also is there an 4.09 uninstaller or will I now have to uninstall and re-install everything?

Thanks.

Leave this installation.
You will find an increasing number of servers as time goes by.
As i guess, you did not copy your Ubisoft folder for tis version trial.

So you need to rename it or install evrything new up to 4.08 under an other folder-name maybe Ubisift or so ;-)

Hey, this thread got a full paragraph in this month's Computer Pilot magazine!

I was browsing the magazines at Barnes & Noble and what a surprise to me when I saw my own 'name' in print. Surprised Congrats also to Bearcat and to Jay Hall of the Complete Newbie Guide, you're both now officially famous.

'allo, newest of the n00bs here... Wink

In the guide, the links to "Tully's Guide to Joystick Settings" (in Bearcat's section) and "look here for ideas for customizing the key map" (in Skycat's) both appear to be dead (or at least not currently working).

The nice UPS man delivered my Saitek x52 today, and I'd love to get feedback on some 'recommended' key mappings people have for IL-2 that I can try out for myself. Mostly a fighter jock n00b for now, though I'll certainly take my hand at light-/medium-bombers in due time.

Fixed by reposting. The original page evaporated apparently.

My keyboard commands may not fully work with your new Saitek stick but you might be able to use them as a starting place for your own custom setup.

Thank you guys for all the help on these forums, this is great info! I think the info about using two buttons for wing folding and engine on/off is especially helpful for newbies... I've turned my engine off a couple times now in mid-flight trying to find another button. Thanks Bearcat99!

Also thanks Skycat_2, my joystick is coming today, but with your info I can actually take off from a carrier with only the keyboard Veryhappy

Hello from Sweden!

This is my first post here and I apoligize for my bad english.

Thank´s for all helpful information on this site. Really appreciate your paticence to nuggets like me.

I tryed some flight sim´s over the years; started with Warbirds, then Air Warriors 2, Janes WW2 Fighters and Microsoft´s Combat Flight Sim 2. I think Jane´s WW2 was the funniest of them all. Have not flyed for years so I installed WW2 on my new computer but it failed to render the skyes proparly so I had to uninstall it.

Just bought IL-2 1946 and have runned it for a couple of weeks. I have flyed som Quick missons, Single missions and now I making career as a BF-109 pilot. When I´ve learned more, in half a year or something, I may try to connect to multiplayer.

The only question I have right now is to Bearcat´s excelent guide, how to upgrade to patch 4.08. You wrote:
"It is highly recommended that you forgo any other version of the sim.. and get the 1946 DVD then patch it to 4.08m. To get the 4.08m patch go to the link provided. Download the patch and install it. When you boot the sim in the lower left hand corner you should see v4.08m in red letters."

I have installed the patch but when booting the sim, it still reads v4.07 (in red letters). The downloaded file is a RAR-type and I just dubble click on the icon (from my desc top) and it starts to self extract in the 1946 folder. I tryed several times, with differnet downloads, but still shows v4.07 when booting. Is there som way I´m able to check if I have the updated maps/v4.08 in the sim?

Regards from

Hi again!

Sorry, but I couldn´t edit my previous post. Anyway, now the "problem" is solved. When installing v4.08 the files were directed to my "Program-files" directory. When I re-directed to "Program directory" it worked fine.

Regards

Your English is not bad really, it's not even very poor let alone bad!
Communication is to get ideas across clearly, you don't have to be perfect to do that.

I could wish that more people here were as good, you take some care with the actual words you use!
Lot of people here think that phonics is a spelling program as well as for early reading, they are
going by sound so they spell wrong-meaning words correctly and expecting to be understood. It can
be done after reading context to decode what was written to something that sounds the same but makes
more sense. That is for people who think with their lips, know what I mean?

You don't do that! Your post is easier to read. Not -bad- English!
Stay here long enough, you will see *bad*! Just read enough threads.

When people take a plane out to see what it can do they really find what they can do with it.

I think this is the only 8 year old non P2P sim that is still growing. It might be the only one period as a lot of AH, FA & WB guys are over here now.
