See the preflight section of the Nugget's Guide.. Make sure you have L & R engines set in your controls. There are several ways to do it. You can select R engines.. then hit the engine start.. then select L engines.. hit en gine start... then select both engines... or you could just select both engines and then hit engine start.

Thanks, actually the only problematic plane seems to be the 262 - in QMB, if you land the plane and turn off the engines (or turn them off midair) they seem unable to be restarted at all. Seems to be only in QMB as in multiplayer they work fine. Confused

You're welcome, and thank you for the heads up about the patch link. It has been fixed. Ironically the original link I had was to the UBI site for the patch.

Hi I'm a complete flight sim newb and need some advice on taking off and landing.

I've got the hang of taking off the Me 109 and Finnish plane in the first single mission (B- 239) but the Me 110 and Finnish J8A result in crashes every time.

I've yet to land successfully in anything.

I haven't approached complex engine management, fuel mixtures or prop pitches. On the J8A (I think) there were no take off flaps so I tried both with landing flaps and without.

In multi en gined aircraft you will have to make sure your engines are synched. One thing about taking off.. make sure you have enough airspeed and make sure your rudder is properly trimmed.

Is it necessary to sync engines when not in complex engine management mode? If so, how please? The 1946 manual is a bit light on how things work and why, as far as I can see.

I'm using loads of rudder on the Me 110 for example, but the plane goes in the opposite direction when I release the break. What straightens it up is applying the break again. Make any sense?

One post I found recommends locking the tail wheel for take off but my plane begins with it pointing at 90 degres to the runnway. When I did lock it a few yards down the runnway that seemed to improve things a bit, but I'm not sure as there are so many variables that could be affecting what happens.

I am not sure as I do not fly without CEM but to do it simply:
Select L Engine, Toggle Engine, Select R Engine, Toggle Engine, Select All Engines. Make sure your throttle is all the way at zero when youi start. I actually made a mistake on the Preflight assignments and have since corrected it in the Guide. Make sure your rudder is straight. It just takes practice. It isnt you, at least not yet.

The engine sync did work without CEM but had no baring on the Me 110 takeoff. What worked in the end was fixing the tail wheel and using full rudder a lot and the break a bit, the latter until about 90 kph. Rudder trim is too weak.

Worked twice in a row, then the stormy weather got me both times, pfff!

Still, a big day, back in Finland, shot down my first fighter and got 5 bombers in 1 mission with limited ammo. improving slowly...

I have been looking for a good combat flight sim for a while now. After getting a joystick for Arma, I started looking a little harder. I came across this game and started browsing the forums. This guide answered every question I had. I bought the game about an hour after finding this guide. Was up and running with multiplayer and everything without a hitch. I'm still learning the ropes, but have a good start. Hope to get better and am signed up for the J.O. Basic Flight School after following the link in your sig. Thanks for the help and see you around!

I even made my own sig already!

I have the Gold Pack copy (Forgotten Battles + Ace Expansion Pack) and I do not have a UN folder. I can make one but the mission's don't work. I guess that's because I don't have all those other basic files. Can I copy those out of the DE or FI or whatever folder?

The naval campaigns, and the planes which Bearcat used in his beginners mission pack, only arrived with Pacific Fighters which came after Aces Expansion Pack. So, even if you make the UN folder, you won't have all the planes, objects, etc. which came with Pacific Fighters. The simplest solution is to bite the bullet and buy IL2:1946, which can be found at a very cheap price these days.

OK UNCLE! I keep buying this game every few years and not spending THAT much time with it, but, I also believe in supporting these guys and supporting the community, so, you got it Cool

I notice the copy protection is gone from the newest version, did I get Starforce or anything else from the Gold Pack (I know that's off topic but I searched around and thought it could be answered quickly.)

Great...going to take 2.5 days to download at this speed.

Sorry, my mistake, this should be Zeus-Cat.

I can't ever remember getting Starforce from an IL2 product but I know UBI did use it for a while, so I guess it may have been on the Gold Pack.

You need PF or IL-2 1946 to use my training campaign. The planes, ships and maps used in the campaign are not available in Aces or FB.

OK I bought the new version. It works great. The gold pack would often crash if I double clicked on it and forgot to put the CD in the drive (and dinged my reliability ratings on my PC) but this is nice that I don't have to worry about the CD from the downloadable.

Here's a dumb question that is not in the readme file or in the Gold Pack booklet that I have - when I get MISSION COMPLETE how do I end the mission? I don't seem to get credit for it if I hit escape and go back to the menu.

OK I got it now. Here's what was happening. Time #1 I started with my throttle at 110% when I started the mission. The plane quickly got away from me, and when I hit the brakes it flipped over and exploded (can you say NOOB lol).

Then one time I hit the eject button for fun and as I parachuted to the ground, I watched my plane fly for awhile and crash.

In the meantime I keep hitting "Quit Mission" and seeing "lost 2 aircraft" and I'm thinking "how did I lose 2 aircraft" well that figure is for the entire campaign. I kept thinking it applied to mission I just finished and I wasn't properly completing it. (Can you say NOOB)

Oh well, this is fun!!

In mission 7, when you start out the mission, if you look to the rear of the plane, all these men come running and diving onto the field. Then a bulldozer rolls over one of them. Then it turns a bit and runs over him again. Eek
