A single prototype of this unique twin cockpit fighter destroyer was built. It was tested in 1940, but it was damaged after a landing gear failure. It was not repaired until German invasion, during which it was captured. After that, trace of this plane in history seems to be lost. I'll let it run for an hour before uncovering it. I'm really honoured to add my 1 cent to this amazing knowledge base that you have here gents. So my first turn : Patch of wich bomber group is this and what this bomber group bombed in Slovenija (at that time part of Yugoslavia) since August 1944 to December 1944. Hint: rail target. Hint#2: This bomb group was part of 12th army air force.

489th BG and Bovornica railway viaduct?
|
| |
|

|
Yes Dance, that's correct, though it's Borovnica not Bovornica , it's where I live Today only one column of that viaduct remains. Your turn!

Thanks Jure, sorry about my spelling Nice countryside you have there. What might this be exactly?

Is it a prototype of Vickers Wellington MK.II with a 40mm Vickers canon in a dorsal turret? Single tail replaced with two for obvious reasons. BTW, Borovnica viaduct in its heyday in the thirties: No one in sane mind ever turns when he has any other option. ~ DKoor

Wellington with Vickers 40mm 'S' gun it is, over to you TT.

What might this be? (btw, no, it's not a Fw190, although front view from the cockpit probably doesn't differ much from the "bar-ed" stock 190s in IL-2 ) (p.s.: again, I've used the search function but nothing shows up, so I apologize in advance if it has already been asked. Give me a clue and I'll pop up something else.) No one in sane mind ever turns when he has any other option. ~ DKoor

BISNOVAT SK-1

|

|
Correct Uufflakke, it shares the design boureau name with the last air to air missile to shoot down a manned US aircraft in air to air combat (R-40, gulf war, F/A-18) - I had this in mind for a hint. Ball is yours. No one in sane mind ever turns when he has any other option. ~ DKoor

Thank you TT. Can't imagine it hasn't been asked before. It is quite a remarkable plane this BISNOVAT SK-1. Here is my contribution:

Bingo!
I knew it wasn't that difficult... Your turn.

Thanks Uufflakke, a nice reminder of the culture at the time. The aircraft this gunner is in please. (excuse the untidy obliteration of the text in the picture)

A clue: As I'll be off to bed within the hour, this picture was labelled as a the 'D' model of the aircraft in my book. I don't think this is possible as the gunner position shown was deleted in the 'D'.
It is either a 'C' (a pre-production proving variant) or an 'E' mainly relegated to training duties, although a few saw action I believe.

Aaaah, so it might be a B-24 afterall? I was cracking my head at this for the last hour. No one in sane mind ever turns when he has any other option. ~ DKoor
