Were they Escuadrón 201 - nicknamed "Aguilas Aztecas", or "Aztec Eagles", a Mexican squadron, a part of 58th FG USAAF?
Interestingly, squadron still exists today, and still flies prop driven planes - counterinsurgency and counter-drug traficker Pilatus PC-7s. No one in sane mind ever turns when he has any other option. ~ DKoor |

Thanks Uufflakke.

Group Captain H N G Ramsbottom-Isherwood and The Order of Lenin
|
|||
|
![]() |
Correct Dance!
Interestingly, shipping military equipement from western allies to Soviet Union is widly known, while the western pilots that fought the Germans alongside Soviet allies not nearly as much. GC Ramsbottom-Isherwood was one such pilot who flew Hurricanes against Germans in the Murmansk area in winter 1941 and was awarded with Order of Lenin for his actions, one of only 4 non-Soviets to receive this high decoration. Btw, I'm having quite some problems accessing the forums, anyone else? No one in sane mind ever turns when he has any other option. ~ DKoor |

Thanks Tim, yes had troubles with the forum too. Now I won't even be able to post a quickie question as I won't be able to stay around and monitor for answers.
As I won't be back for several hours, I better throw the floor open for anyone to ask the next question. |

Okay Dance, I take over now with another question.
Name the ace. |
|||
|
![]() |
James Francis Edwards, a Canadian ace with 19 kills, 18 of which were fighters. One among them was famous Luftwaffe experten Otto Schulz with 51 wictories, who fell victim to Edwards in his Kittyhawk on June 17th, 1942.

Heinkel He 115.
|

Not a He-115 JtD, but (obviously) very similar in appearance and design. A bit smaller though.

Thanx TinyTim but uuuhr... I just noticed that I was the one who asked the ID of the same plane some months ago.
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...83/m/4761094337/p/39 So don't know if this counts for a quiz point or not. Anyway, give me some time to come up with another question. |
