This week i've been thinking about how Europe and America stack up against each other in online fighting. I can't decide what side of the pond has better fighter pilots. I'm leaning towards Europe at the moment....But then again if i include Russia some of the best pilots are from there (as we all know). What do you all think?

Question:
Where are the best fighter pilots from, in your opinion?

Choices:
USA
Europe
Russia
Australia

Hmmmmmm. frivolous me thinks. I think that it really does not matter. Its the pilot since there are no national training regimens.

I don't know how many people from the Asian continent play this game , but i think it was worth mentionning in the poll choices IMHO Smile .

But honestly , I doubt the poll will give a sensible answer cause most will vote for their country and in this forum , not every country is represented equally in term of numbers . Also , most of the time online , i don't know where are the other guys from except if i look at their pings or if their nickname is obvious concerning their nationality

I think most countries have their fair share of experienced virtual pilots , it seems that there are more Europeans (squads) flying the sim but it's just an impression . I also think it doesn't matter btw (although i respect your will of knowing other ppl opinions about this ) , individual skill is not what impress me in this sim , it is teamwork and immersion

It very much depends what time of day you fly as well, because you will base your impressions on that....But i don't think people will vote for their country, people should be honest. If i fly against a pilot who strikes me as good, i normally ask where they are from afterwards...

Bad list.

You have USA, Russia, Australia then Europe. The other three are relatively straight forward, but Europe is not one country. You can`t put Europe in such a list.

Have fun writing down all 50 countries of Europe to make a poll Veryhappy

Not that this poll as it is can be taken seriously anyways =)

But there's so many countries in Europe and it's hard to gauge exactly which are the ones with the most good pilots, so it's easier to say Europe as a whole. Plus there's only so many options in a poll Tongue

I reckon the best online pilots are from the internet.
But seriously, definitely Hyperlobby.

Dance are you in iRacing? Or did you play Grand Prix Legends back in the day when the term "aliens" came around for people that had talent, well.. on another level. Smile

What is neet about the racing simulator iRacing, is that it keeps track of all your stats in a web browser like format. There is even a nations cup and a regional standing that directly pits your members club (I'm in the Midwest USA club) against other clubs and from regions all over the world.

It makes it somewhat easier to track where good drivers come from but I will tell you that pretty much any region that has 10 great drivers has 2 or 3 completely awful ones, it really is no different around the world.

Also I could careless about my Midwest club, all of the friends I have made in sim racing over the years come from all over the US and the World for that matter. I don't even have one good friend in the club I'm in so I never really try to race for points thinking about my club, I race for myself. Cool

But it's the same with IL-2, I have met many people from around the world and I don't particularly align myself with the people from my nation, or the planes that served in WWII from my nation.

I think if IL-2 had a Player ID like iRacing it would be neat but you would probably see similar stats, you'd have guys at the top of the kill list and K/D ratio for every country, and then guys at the bottom who can hardly take off or land, it takes all kinds from around the world.

But if you really want an answer, I am going to say Russia, because they don't have to work over there and can spend more time practicing IL-2. Razz

Did the whole circus Stiletto, from GPL to F1 1999~F1C, Crammonds GP1~4 offline, NR 2003, rFactor, GTR, GTL, GTR2. Got GTR Evolution, hmm not convinced. I got to try iRacing just before my wrists screwed up, I was enjoying it but arthritis has intervened and haven't driven competitively since, Doc's orders Wink

The idea of the stats/ratings elements used in iRacing being used in flight simming is compelling, but might be costly to your average gamer.

I think everyone is about the same in skill, because its difficult to make any distinction. Most people speak enough english, and it isn't as obvious where they are from unless they say so.
Occasionally, I see Russian, Israeli, Italian or German on the chat bar, but i cant make any distinction who the pilots are when i'm playing.

I have had some challenging duels with a Spanish speaking player who was from South America. He was one of the better pilots I've ever flown against. He actually brought my attention to the M.C. 200 and 205 series of planes which are a good alternative to flying 109s or Spitfires all the time.

Anyway, the game isnt all that difficult. It justs takes a bit of time to understand the controls and buttons.
From there, its just a matter of understanding the planesets and their capabilities.
I think everyone could be a great pilot for this reason.

Who is the better pilot??
The guy that scores 4 kills in a Spitfire or the guy that scores 4 kills in a Macchi (MC 200).

BTW, the poll might as well say, where are you from??

That surely depends upon what opposition each pilot faced, and of course what kind of Spitfire we're talking about.

I don't think that there is any particular geographical bias to pilot quality.

However, when flying online outside of a squad context, the team with the biggest block of players speaking a single language on comms will naturally have an advantage. Players forced to use comms in their second language in order to cooperate are obviously at a disadvantage, and I have great respect for those that do so successfully.

Since i live here in Europe of course i voted for Europe.

But 50% of the best fighter pilots that i've seen are from Russia. And believe it or not,a lot of them fly german planes instead of russian. And they can be found on servers like Genadich. The best servers are not in the Hyper-Lobby,but via IP and are based in Russia, and have the best campaign mode in a dog.fight server. You have never even heard of it.
But the most eye beating thing is that they don't fly in squadrons, they fly solo's and are using always TS and communicate.

You people really have no idea what those people can do...

A lot of them hang out at sukhoi.ru.
