There have been numerous of such threads but not lately . So I'm interested in your opinion... only families of fighters are listed, because for listing specific types it would take half page of listing.

It is interesting also because we have influx of new players lately and I believe their votes will be different than votes of those who are regular here.

Vote on whatever basis you want... you may vote for best looking piston for all I'm concerned, but it would be appropriate to vote for a fighter that you think is best, another words in which you can do best results.

They are all fighters of same era, contemporary fighters so it all boils down to personal preference.

- IL2 - FW-190(D)/Tempest it's tied really
- IRL - P-51 (I'd vote for 51 in IL2 too if only someone would be kind enough to put at least 2 X 20mm on it).

Hey DKoor- interesting idea for a poll

I went with
IL-2: BF-109 (G in particular)

IRL: P-51 (D) because it won teh war

Well those are my prefs anyway. Will be checking back on this to see how it progresses.

109's up to G2 then 190's there on. P-51's are great aircraft but a bit much over rated. IRL I would take a Jug over a p-51. P-47's shot down far more Luftwaffe birds than the stang.

In real life: P51 - pretty fast, multi purpose (able to strafe anything but tanks, carries rockets and big bombs), very fast, very good range, good cockpit visibility and high-speed maneuverability, easy to learn(to fly)... And quick & cheap to purchase! MK3 owns everything not jet-propelled.

In game? Same... except for the 2nd last.

I voted for the Tempest.

I voted 109 in-game primarily because of it's acceleration/deceleration ability (really helps covering up my mistakes!)

For RL I had to go with P-47. I like high odds for making it home!

I demand an immediate recount no matter what the results!

I'm surprised to say the least.

FW 190 and Tempest

IL2: No pick, way too many are over or under modeled. Some to the point that I refuse to fly them as I would feel "unclean" doing so.

IRL: Corsair without a doubt. Plenty of speed, armament and manouverability for air-to-air operations. Had a big payload, and could carry a wide range of weapons for air-to-ground ops. Capable of absorbing a lot of punishment, and still get the pilot back home in one piece. And, unlike the '47 or '51, it could do all of that from a carrier as well as from land.

The early Bf109's quite incredible planes. Noone said it was all about late war birds.

I am really starting to believe that the Bf109F4 in late 1941 is all conquering in the hands of a good pilot.
