Hello gents,

On behalf of Daidalos Team, I would like to thank you for your support and patience while we have been finalizing 4.09 patch. We hope you will have as much fun playing with it as much we have enjoyed working on it.

Even though we have dedicated several months to internal and external beta-testing, it is possible that we might not have been able to identify all issues. Thus, we would like to ask IL-2 community for a feedback related to 4.09 content only. If you find any suspicious issue/bug, please report it in this thread, ideally backed with some hard evidence (screenshots, tracks, etc.). In order to report only those things that are not known to us, please read the PDF Guide first.

We are committed to look at each of the problems and try to fix it in our future release.

Thank you.

Daidalos Team.

As much as I love SM.79, I'm firmly convinced that its FM has some issues that need to be addressed.

Problem is - it's way too resistant to light MG fire. I ran a test in qmb: my SM.79 was empty, 50% fuel, I engaged level stab and flew level and straight, while an AI ace Hurricane was shooting at me. I ran the test 10 times. Hurricane failed to destroy me one single time, despite always discharging entire ammunition supply into me. Of course ace AI didn't have many problems hitting a clay pigeon - straight flying SM.79 who didn't shoot back. Most of the times I didn't even had any leaks, and never lost any controls. Only consistent damage that always occured (besides visual one) was killed dorsal gunner, which usually happened quite soon after the hurri started firing.

A few grabs:

Huricanne shooting...

...obviously scoring a lot of hits...

...and disengaging after ammo is depleted.

Usual result: No fuel or oil leaks, no fire, no lost controls

Only in two cases out of 10 the result was also a minor oil leak:

It's easy reproducible, but anyway - tracks of all 10 runs here.

No one in sane mind ever turns when he has any other option.

I just installed 4.09m over a clean, new install of 4.08m. However, the game won't launch. I first tried installing 4.09m (and the skins) over my saved, clean install of 4.08m and found I couldn't launch the game. So I uninstalled IL2 and then reinstalled it. That got me to 4.07m. I then patched that to 4.08m and then to 4.09m. I also applied the 4.09m skins. So this should be a pristine 4.09m install at this point. However, the game will not launch. I get an hourglass icon and it looks like it is going to start, but nothing ever happens -- no splash screen, no change in resolution, nothing. I just stay on my Windows desktop.

BTW, I test launched 4.07m and 4.08m after each install step and they worked fine. I also rebooted my machine after finding 4.09m wouldn't launch, but I still have the problem. Any ideas on what could be the problem?

OK, found the answer over on SimHQ:

quote:
nforce chipset motherboards (a7n8x) require the mg_snd*.* files from 4.08m; otherwise, game does not start.

Possibly affects all similar configurations using older on-board sound.

I copied the two files (located in the home directory of the install) and now the game launches. Yep, I have an older machine.

SM.79 was a very tough plane historically. It was very hard to shoot down with light MG fire (but more vulnerable to 12.7 and 20mm fire). Very often SM.79s returned home, crippled with bullets, with wounded or dead crewmen, but still flying.

SM.79 goes down like a brick under .50 cal fire. For .303s, it's tough, but maybe just a little too much so. However, any plane will take it down if you aim directly at the engines. They are as weak as any other. Also, the fuel tanks are outboard of the engines, so aim there to set fires.

A minor issue this, but I'd say it qualifies as a bug. There seems to be a problem with using the SlovakiaS map in combination with 'Scramble' and a large aircraft:

The aircraft is spawned in a hanger, which immediately results in damage:

I tried this again with a TB-3, which immediately exploded!

Trying a G4M1 seems to confirm that the source of the problem is a collision between the aircraft and the hanger, see this .ntrk.

The use of heavy bombers in combination with 'Scramble' was probably not anticipated by the developers, but with no enemy aircraft selected, a scramble is a quick way to set up a test flight from a runway.

Like I said, a minor issue. Probably all it needs is a note in the ReadMe file.

The culprit here is the spawn point on the Slovakia-Map which happens to be inside the hangars. It only pertains to this map and so I doubt it will be changed. Those hangars were meant for fighters anyway.

Heres an observation regarding the flyable fokkers. When viewed externally and all 4 guns are fired there is no buttlet stream or muzzle flash or tracers from the cowling guns. Empties eject from wing guns, nothing from under cowling. If selecting right gun tracer only, all ok inside cockpit view as advertized but from external view no muzzle flashes again from cowling gun. However it appears cowling guns fire thru tubes and their flash might be hidden by prop blur etc. From cockpit you get bullet streams and they do down enemy aircraft. So more of an observation than a complaint.
Overall impression, quite a good patch, flawles sinstall over 409beta and even on vista no problems so far. Good job Team Dedailos!

The MGs are mounted deep inside the fucelage. After the MG barrel there is about 1m long big bore tube protecting the engine internals. Basically you have a huge flash hider attached to the MG, so don't expect to see any flash at the end of the tube. If you manage to tear off the engine, then you'll see the actual MG barrels and flash.

it was common for the british .303 guns to bounce off the skin of axis bombers, especially at any range. If anything, the .303s in this sim are better than their real life counterparts.....

I'm having a small problem with the new planes.

I don't see the struts of the cockpits of all new planes except the SM-76 from the outside of the planes.
On the SM-76, i don't see the casing of the lower gunner/bombardier, and also not the wheel flaps.

However, if i turn on any light, i can see all the missing things of the SM.
Same goes for the Fokkers.
But an the Avia, i can only see zhe cockpit struts if i turn on the posis.
There's an equal problem with the I-16s, but i don't know how to describe the location of the problematic area...

I patched to 4.09 and the game won't run. It was on a clean install and the first time I started the game the splash screen popped up and it said 4.09 at the bottom. The screen then returned to desktop and IL2 quit. I cannot even get to the splash screen again after trying to run the game.

I flew it online the other night with a mate.
We tested the situation with the SM.79.

Conclusion is... while in theory possible, practically is not possible to shoot the SM.79 down from the rear with his historical opponents.
When I flew SM.79 he shoot me up with the Hurricane, and after a few unsuccessful tries, I disengaged all gunners and flew with level autopilot for a test (basically a big flying easy target).
He again failed to down my SM.79, failed to inflict critical damage.
Hurricane Mk.IIb; 12 Browning .303cal... 5-6 times he scored more than 1100 hits on SM.79 while last time we tried he hit Sparviero with around 2000 bullets. Bird still didn't go down, far from it. One time he managed to down me was that he literally sawed off my wing. With .303cals Smile .

Then I tried... to cut story short I managed to down it with prolonged burst at the outboard part of the wing it caught fire and crashed.
My convergence was 120m.

But the point is that it is useless to attack it from the rear because it is hard to shoot it down when it flies straight and level without gunners shooting at you.
With gunners shooting attacking fighter would likely be downed 9/10 times and perhaps one time he would score some lucky hit (even that I doubt sincerely).
I doubt that was the situation IRL Veryhappy .

However from front side the Sparviero engines are like paper, few hits and multiple engines stoppage is encountered.

From now on I'm flying this crate online... Mean Happy

Not sure if anyone noticed on the SM.79, but if you try the top and bottom gunners position you cant get them to move with mouse. I dont know if that's spose to be like that or what, but there is no field of view for a gunner to even aim...The guns fire but there is no rotation. Great plane otherwise Cool

You need to use your ''Open canopy'' button, bind a key for it in controls menu.
