But thinking about it, it is not that unrealistic, giving the german militares conservatism and prussian roots. Back in those days a lot of ppl still wished back the Kaiser. So this idea is pretty creative actually =)[QUOTE]

It is interesting, and serves its purpose of another war between Germany and the USSR, in the right time period and using the new maps.

However, I highly doubt the Western Allies would end the war with Germany with Germany still in possession of France, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Poland (especially, the reason the war began in the first place), etc.

Anyway, its an exercise to de-Nazify Germany and set up the 1946 Soviet-centric conflict, so its all good. Smile

My history is rusty, but didn't everyone completely forget about Poland once the war ended?

I like the new history, to be honest. And it's much more satisfying flying for de-nazified Germany!

If UBI intends on doing a US release they are keeping it a secret to the retail outlets! I've talked to people in several stores and there is no listing for 1946, I'm thinking I'll just order the english (as in the country) version from Go- Gamer. If I'm wrong feel free to correct me.

Got the DVD, popped it into the player, but no install option for SoM and 46 only, just a complete installation. Will installing over my current installation destroy my skin and mission files, or can I go ahead?
Looked at the bonus DVD, that's some awesome BoB footage- terrain looks much better than current maps. As for the cockpits......... bow

Just installed it and took it for a spin... I love it! I'm in love with the MiG-9! It's such a cool bird. Also the Ta-183 (was it 183?) seems slow as hell... I couldn't get it to accelerate at all... it took me the lenght of the whole long concrete runway to get airborne and even then I just barely made it!

Played around with the Lerche as well... taking off was easy and then in like 2 seconds I was going at around 600kph Blink

I just can't land this thing... I can't even begin the descent! how do I get into the hovering position so that I can land?

we need a Lerche "how to" thread Razz

Per the Readme file Steve posted at the beginning, here's the basics in flying the Heinkel Lerche.

Heinkel Lerche III

The aircraft is quipped with automatic stabilization auto-pilot that keeps the aircraft vertical during take-off and landing. The system is toggled with the ?Airbrake? key. The white indicator lights on the instrument panel illuminate when the system is switched on.

Unlike most other fighters, the ?Toggle Gunsight? button (Shift-F1 by default) switches the view to point downwards, at the instrument panel and the ground below.

Take-off procedure in the aircraft is simple. Toggle the stabilization auto-pilot on and slowly increase engine power. Reaching 200-300 meters of altitude push the nose down slowly to convert to horizontal flight, and disengage the stabilization auto-pilot.

The landing procedure is more involved. Firstly, select suitable area for landing. Landing approach is standard, with speeds of around 250-300 km/h, with the stabilization auto-pilot turned on (one white indicator light). At 25-30 meters of altitude begin a flare at 10 to 20 degrees nose-up attitude. The active stabilization auto-pilot will engage (second white indicator light). Level the elevators at that time. The stabilization auto-pilot will attempt to keep the aircraft vertical. Do not increase engine power at this time, as this may cause too much altitude to be gained. Do not chop the throttle below 25%, as this may lead to a stall or loss of effectiveness of the gas-powered stabilization mechanism.

After the aircraft is stabilized vertically, slowly decrease power to descent. Aircraft with expanded ammunition and low fuel will hover at approximately 35 to 40% of throttle. When descending, vertical speed of no more than 5 m/s is recommended. The aircraft is also equipped with ultra-sound altimeter, which should be used alongside the vertical speed indicator during descent.

Before touch-down decrease the vertical speed, momentarily opening the throttle. When the aircraft touches down, three green lights will illuminate on the dashboard. Immediately decrease power to avoid bunny-hopping.

When using auto-pilot, or performed by AI planes, the landing may not look smooth due to inherent game engine limitations.

Well, It never does get updated to include new planes and maps, unfortunately. So I'm sure it won't be this time either.

But don't dispair. What I do is I open each new dynamic campaign mission as its generated and manually edit the planes. After the mission I manually update the logbook file.

Its a shame to hear the Mig-9 is the 'new best' and the Ta-183 is mediocre at best. As usual, should be the other way around when it comes to axis vs allies. Everything I've ever read about the Mig-9 says it had performance problems and was only put into service through political considerations, and was phased out extremely quickly. That projected stats for the Ta-183 though are far better than those for the Mig-9, and the Ta-183 has a 'faster' and more streamlined design anyway.
