Wow, I see a lot of guys bashing something that's not even out yet because it's different. Wait for some reviews guys, this may turn out to be more smooth and accurate than a CH, then everyone will change their tune pretty quick. I too am looking harder at the G940 now, but that's due to the X65 only having two rotaries, not the force stick.

This might work well in a simpit - a full length floormounted stick? The tiny/nonexistant range of motion might be a bonus.

Im not liking the idea. The thought that full deflection is around 2MM of movement means that even a sneese will send my P-39 into a spin at the wrong moment. There is just less room for error on a setup like that. A lot less. If this is also done in aircraft, what do they do in turbulance? Your hand will be jolted around quite a bit more then 2MM!!! I just dont see the logic.

It's not about deflection Gibbage, it's all about force.
The amount force you apply to the stick is what controls the aircraft, not the stick's movement...

Still, for WWII aircraft, this is just weird...

From the Saitek forum
Beautiful stick - looks lovely. The throttle is even nicer looking - I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Except you've completely blown it by making a force stick that nobody really wanted in the first place and you won't sell the throttle separatley.

Oh well...
I think that sums it up for most of us Smash

I'm still holding my opinion in reserve until user reviews surface, for all we know this may turn out to be a completely superior input method that improves control accuracy beyond imagination. I doubt it but it's worth waiting for the reviews before bashing it, seems people are afraid of anything new and unknown, but what else is new.

It doesn't take long to get used to a force stick and I can't wait for it. I tried building my own but the voltage variations through the strain gauges are insanely small and require a Wheatstone bridge circuit to properly amplify and I just couldn't get it right. Being a total moron didn't help either.

I'll be more than happy to get rid of the mechanical linkages in current sticks and all the issues they have. With a purely electronic setup filtering and configuration will be much easier (assuming the software is done correctly) and can hopefully be done without exiting the game.

Hmmm could be just what I am looking for.Could it be that you can bolt it down and set it up so that you need ALOT of force for full deflection?I wonder......

whisper Better keep wondering... better not try it.
If you do, you'll probably break it...

My initial thoughts were:

LOL, that's what you get from alien ware joystick manufacturer.

. . .

What is this?

"Your Father's Saitek. This is the weapon of the Jedi Knight. It's not as clumsy or random as a blaster. An elegant weapon for a more civilized age."

...

FoolTrottel has it right: "It's not about deflection Gibbage, it's all about force.
The amount force you apply to the stick is what controls the aircraft, not the stick's movement..."

For preventing stalls you have to use The Force on the minute, MM movement. They have a new Star Wars MMO where budding Jedi can learn the ways of the Mysterious Force.

...

and CH FTW!! Didn't they know this was done on the F-16 and pilots didn't like it?

Seriously though,

It is a hard concept to grasp. *tongue in cheek*

It can be epic failure for marketing, but I saw a post saying Couger owners were upset it moved, and like a previous poster said, made a mod for this.

I mean if they did a study of using joysticks in cars. It would save alot of lives, as bludgeoned by the steering wheel / column (I knew someone who passed away in highschool like that) but because people were so used to steering wheels most car manufacturers won't change . . .

This might be revolutionary, like how the iphone changed cellular phones.

It is true, less moving parts less chance of failure . . .

You can adjust how sensitive it is.
And on the fly.

Saitek has to have a feature edge over Logitech's HOTAS. Logitech has the trim dials, something CH doesn't have. However until 2 years from now, its durability compared to CH is in question.

Logitech has the advantage of first punch. But the problem with that is its revealed its style, its intent.

You notice Saitek's pedals are spread apart for the men here, and that is complain CH has to address and for the width.

So Saitek is simply one upping Logitech. And they have a extra panel with buttons.

Saitek has to have balls to put out a new stick like that. Granted they took a cue from the most discerning stick users around, the cougar guys . . . and this might affect the non cougar set of people (larger population) . . .

And like previous posters have said, can't judge it until it comes out.

But Saittek has an uphill battle with just the perception of their product already . . .

I would try it but already I have CH and spent good money, and it works for me.

Just like waking up in vegas, saitek's put its money where its mouth is . . .

I'm kind of anticipating which way the reviews will go when this set up comes out.

I'm not advacating the Saitek per se, but I imagine alignment issues when targeting an enemy would be substantially lessened as opposed to FFB sticks and wonky centering.

I'm perfectly happy with my CH Products, but a potential aimimg benifit with the sort of stick Saitek is designing is at least intriguing.

Since we're on a Star Trek mode of disbelief/facination.....
