Would it be to much to ask if you could just post like a crimea sized area of land thats around dover. a map that big might have trouble on my computer, with low hard drive space and all. thanks! I do love it all though.

2 things that might interest you.

1) These map makers are putting hundreds of hours in through love, probally a lot more hours than that, and yet there is no finacial reward for them. They are doing it because they want to, and as such are going to build the map that they want, and exactly how they want to. This is something that they don't even have to share if they don't want to.

2) And now for the good news. For exactly this reason that you mention, Cannon has recently released a beta version of his channel map, that was deliberatly done to 1/2 scale, with lower object density, both with lower ended comps in mind and online play, where people don't ness want the long flight times amongst other things. It to, is also amazing, so there is something for everyone Thumbs Up

FANTASTIC!!

Talented, computer savy people like you, and the campaigns, maps, skins and missions you have made for this game have made it so much more enjoyable for myself and others. Keep up the good work. Can hardly wait to finally fly some cross channel BOB missions!

I haven't been a huge fan of the new maps because of the low detail except at the airfields. I even laughed at screenshots of the White Cliffs of Dover, but understand its difficult considering the mapping tools your working with.

That said I really like the cliffs in the Point du Hoc screenshot. Does this mean you have improved the White Cliff of Dover. Earlier screenshots show them as dark hills, while your recent du Hoc screenshot has much more vertical cliffs. If you can modify them further to have a chalky texture I would download your new maps for that quality alone.

Thanks guys we are having as much fun building the map as well.

Kristorf, the buildings are a MOD created by a gentleman named LAL_Rone, a very talented skinner. He also has several other skin packs available that are equally as good.

Chivas you are correct, its pretty difficult getting the cliffs to look the way we want them but we are still working on them. Below is a pic of Dover before our last edit, its has since been changed and will post a pic when we finish retexturing. Still a work in progress. Smile One of the limitations we have is to get this angle on the cliffs they have to be a little bit higher than actual size, but something most can live with.

Best regards,
Booze

Hi booze,

I saw in your own forum that you were asking for info on the coastlines, as to what was cliffs and what wasn't, other than the dover area.

I can quite happily give you the info for the county of kent, but sussex and round from there not so sure 100%, but would be able to research fairly easily. Biggest cliffs in the UK are at Beachyhead, much bigger chalk cliffs than dover.

If you've got assistance already cool Cool

If not PM me here, and i'll do what i can,

cheers fruitbat

Here are some previews of the Netherlands (part of the BoB map). Most of these are fairly old and all should be regarded as work in progress...

For those hoping to use the full size map, yet can't, I would suggest a low density full size version, with fewer Building Objects, and perhaps fewer trees.

Airfields and low altitude targets, like radar stations, may need more buildings or trees, but high altitude targets or the terrain in general need fewer.

There are many 8th AF bases on the map, including Raydon, Hangman.

The images you see are embellished with details (static aircraft and vehicles, for example) that are not on the map but are added to the mission from which the pictures were taken to show how the map will look after you creative mission builders get finished working your magic.

While the team probably won't please everyone, the idea is to make the map sufficiently detailed to present the airfields and countryside with enough detail to make both seem virtually realistic, while not bringing most systems to their knees. So far, in all our tests, no player has complained of poor frame rates, much less "too much detail".

We can't be all things to all people, but we are sure trying to please as many as we can. And what this map offers will be available nowhere else. Nor is it the the last ... there are two more larger maps in the works.
