Nice, I really enjoy reading these .pdf's you have made. They provide good general advice for the planes. I only recently began flying the P-40 and it really is a great plane.

I've gotten tired of late war aircraft all the time - tends to end up being a drag race and also more forgiving energy management wise as you have better aircraft for getting it back.
I like the P-40 - but only against it's contemporaries where it stands a chance. Being able to tote a bomb on it is pretty good too. |

I might suggest not using the term "mercenary" to describe the American Volunteer Group.
Just a word to the wise. _____________________________ "Everything seems new to those too young to remember the old and too ignorant of history to have heard about it." - Thomas Sowell |

That's what they were... mercenary is not a dirty word.. As for the P-40.. I like it as modeled in this sim... all variants... it is stable... has good guns... and like Paul said.. against it's contemporaries it is a formidable weapon. |

As it was in real life. I have posted this following list before but it can't hurt to repost. In the hands of a competent pilot the P40 was a very viable fighter indeed: ******************* RAAF pilot Clive Caldwell's kill tally with the P40 before switching to Spitfires. Note that quite a number of the kills are 109F's, two of these 109F's were flown by Knights Cross holders, the "non kill" slipped in between 18 and 19 is listed because the pilot (who got the plane home but later died of the wounds) was an experten with 69 kills .... 1 26/6/41 Bf 109 destroyed Capuzzo (a) 2 30/6/41 Bf 110 Destroyed (shared) off Tobruk (b) 3 30/6/41 Ju 87 Destroyed off Tobruk (c) 4 30/6/41 Ju 87 Destroyed off Tobruk 5 7/7/41 G.50 Destroyed Gazala 6 16/8/41 G.50 Destroyed (shared) Convoy patrol 7 29/8/41 Bf 109F Destroyed Sidi Barrani 8 27/9/41 Bf 109 Destroyed BuqBuq 9 28/9/41 Bf 109 Destroyed Bardia 10 23/11/41 Bf 109 Destroyed Tobruk 11 23/11/41 Bf 109 Destroyed Baheira (d) 12 5/12/41 Ju 87 Destroyed S El Adem 13 5/12/41 Ju 87 Destroyed S El Adem 14 5/12/41 Ju 87 Destroyed S El Adem 15 5/12/41 Ju 87 Destroyed S El Adem 16 5/12/41 Ju 87 Destroyed S El Adem 17 12/12/41 Bf 109 Destroyed Derna-Tmimi 18 20/12/41 Bf 109 Destroyed S Barce ... 24/12/41 Bf 109 Damaged (e) 19 21/2/42 Bf 109 Destroyed Derna-Gazala (f) 20 14/3/42 C.202 Destroyed NW Tobruk 21 14/3/42 C.202 Destroyed (shared) NW Tobruk 22 23/4/42 Bf 109 Destroyed Bir Hacheim (a) Bf 109E of I/JG27, flown by Lt. It should not be, but it is turning into one because of what is happening in Iraq. Truck towers and criminals charged with assault are being hired by different "Private Security" Companies over there. They have no ROE (Rules of Engagement". They are not effected by any laws, Iraqi or American. They often fire their weapons for fun; often killing innocent Iraqis without any consequences. These are the kind of people that is turning "Mercenary" or "Merc" into a dirty word. There is a man that is charged with assault in 2 different states. Now he earns 600 dollars an HOUR with a company called Crescent. No rules, no laws, no briefings. Weapons free, no consequences; a criminal. lol sorry for the little lesson, but I think ElAurens is right, some family or descendant of the vets might be offended; after all they were very much soldiers and honorable people. They should not be described with the same word as criminals with ak that has no laws affecting them. |
