Not sure why but I seem to have problems with bailing out online? Sometimes it works sometimes I can press and press the keys (Ctrl E) and nothing happens!
Is there some kind of system to ejecting? Do I hold the keys or tap them or something else? What I'm i doing wrong? |

If a plane goes to fast, you can't bail out. Airflow pressure is to high. "In short, the Spitfire MkIX was the best fighting machine of its day. Its great tactical advantage was that, apart from its longer nose and more numerous exhaust stacks, it looked exactly like the inferior Spitfire MkV, and in the air the Germans would not know the difference - until we hit them." ~ Wg Cdr J E 'Johnnie' Johnson |

When too much G forces are applied on the pilot, he can not bail.
Try bailing in level flight and you will succeed every time, Than try to bail while spinning - sometimes you will fail. |

So if your going down to fast and unable to pull up to slow - is it an idea to drop flaps / gear and open canopy (If possible) to create drag? ???

if possible i usually Level the plane and cut the engine to prevent the pilot from hitting the spinner.
especially important on the Lerche and yes if you reduce the speed by applying flaps and other stuff it will make it easyier to bail out. |

Also, after you press CTRL E, leave the stick alone. If you're trying to fly after you've elected to bail, it won't work.

If you are in doubt whether you will succeed to bail, use;
-0% throttle -deploy flaps fully, doesn't matter if they jam, you are already screwed up -use 100 prop pitch (in aircraft that use auto, switch to manual and firewall to 100) -deploy gears down -try to enter a spin, that will generally slow you down even if the spin is not flat; this works good even if you don't have one wing or so -you can use max trim in order to slow your aircraft down But really bailing out ASAP from a doomed machine is a key... nothing will work if you bail out at too low altitude. |

Diving too fast and being unable to bail usually means your dead (virtually). I`ve had situations where I`ve been shot down, am spinning in can`t bail. I`ll try flaps, pulling up, everything, but usually it`s too late. All I can do is stare at the ground coming at me and scream loudly.
Scares the neighbours. |

Yeah I noticed that if you touch the stick or controls it prevents your bail. Just couldn't figure out the rest.
Top stuff Dkoor! Nice one m8 Thanks to all for answers. Been playing for ages and learn something new all the time |

How come on some of the early Ki-43 and A6M2 pilot careers you can't bail out?
Even if the plane is in a safe-bail-out-position. This always baffles me. Are the pilots "programmed" to like stay with their aircraft and die with it or something!? -Christian W. |

They have no parachute.

I really don't get the Japanese view on their pilots, even this early in the war. I mean it took time and money (fuel costs etc.) to train these guys and then they send them off in airplanes with no armor or self-sealing fuel tanks and no parachutes!? -Christian W. |

The Japanese in the early war put every faith in plane manouverability.
As such any saving of weight was precious so their planes stayed super-manouverable like the early Ki43's and Zeros. No armour plate, no parachutes , they even used to fly without radios to save weight in 1941-42. It worked too, for a while, until the Allies captured a Zero and worked out tactics to beat it. ------------------------------------------------------------- "Over Dieppe, the wing was immediately bounced by a hundred FW 190s and a few Me 109s. I heard Johnson effing and blinding as he broke 610 into a fierce attack. I was hard at it dodging 190s, but I found time to speak sharply to Johnson about his foul language." - WingCo Jaime Jameson 12 Group Spitfire |

You could always check your Controls section to make sure you didn't wipe the key binding.

COuld you elaborate? ------------------------------------------------------------- "Over Dieppe, the wing was immediately bounced by a hundred FW 190s and a few Me 109s. The parachute issue was to avoid capture, it's hard for the average westerner to understand but capture was worse than death to the japanese. If you're going to commit suicide rather than be captured anyway, why waste time and effort and weight on a parachute? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flying online as NORAD_Shinjiro |
