Brewster received an M-63 engine in Finland.

"Once (I think it was 31st aug. 1940), I was in a fight with four Hurricanes over Dover.
I was back over the channel when I saw another Hurricane coming from Calais, trailing white smoke, obviously in a bad way.
I flew up alongside him and escorted him all the way to England and waved goodbye.
A few weeks later the same thing happened to me.
That would never have happened in Russia - never". (Erich Rudorffer - 109 pilot)

hmm Heliopaus is partially right, but it was not really a Brewster, it was - as stated by JSG72 - the HUMU, an all Finnish homemade and design "version" of the Brewster. So it wasn't really a Brewster...kind of Smile .

I give Heliopause 45% of the win, but 55% to JSG72 as it was the name Humu I was looking for.
Really an intriguing plane indeed...

Well done, floor is yours JSG
nite all.

Too stupid to figure out last question, but I bet the answer to the first is that both the A-24 and the A-36 Mustang had dive brakes.

At first a couple of "normal" Brewsters received this engine.

"Producer Brewster Aeronautical Corporation, USA
Country of origin: USA

Engine Wright R-1820-G5 Cyclone / 950 hp, 9 cylinder air-cooled radial engine
(BW-363, 365, 371, 374, 379 and 392 were later powered by Soviet Shvetsov M-63 engine)"

OK! Can I through the P-39/P-40 in the mix.

When I say "Off the ground" I don't mean powerplant or wings. Winky

I stand corrected Heliopause, they did use Shvetsov engines on the Brewsters . So you answer was legit and correct. Both answers were correct, but as I was looking for the word "Humu" and we are on the way already, so I stand by giving JSG the win Smile

That's the one harry.

The reason I had said A-24 and Mustang was that the original concept was to utelise the Mustang outer wing panels.

And of course what kept it off the ground was the F4U undercarriage

It looks a bit but no, the aircraft above is a dive-bomber.
If you find from wich country, it should be easy to find his name.
The engine cowl can give a hint, as it looks like a cowl of an aircraft in the game.
