Thanx mate Smile these type of questions (riddles) are indeed tricky as they can be interpreted differently Big Grin

OK here is a bunch of "left-overs".. a mix of questions:

1)
Although the North African bases used by the USAAF bomber force in 1942-43 proved their worth during army support in the MTO and showed the advantages of a two-pronged assault on Germany, there was a need for airfields closer to the potential target. Around what Italian town were 13 airfields captured, making a second strategic bomber force much more feasible?

2)
The escort carrier HMS Fencer was known by another name before 1943. What name?

3)
Who was the last pilot to land on the HMS Courageous before she sunk and what type of aircraft was he flying?

Just for Info, the character dressed in red with the canon-arm, is Cobra, from Buichi Terasawa's manga (and mini TV serie ) "Space Adventure Cobra".

It most certainly is a great Wartime story. and better than many that graced a "Commando" Comic.

Had read "Mustang and Thunderbolt Aces of the Pacific and CBI" by John Stanaway.

And reckoned that Lt.Curdes. Was now one of my "Great Wartime Heroes"

I see it was actually a P-38G-10 of the 82FG that Louis was flying when he had engine trouble and was forced to land near Benevento Italy.
"P38 lightening Aces of the ETO/MTO " again by John Stanaway Thumbs Up

Mmm, I'm going to clutch at straws and say they reverse engineer the M-63 for the Polikarpovs based in New Zealand?

Hmm

Dayton Brown was a designer of a US airplane, flyable in IL2
.... and the Shvetsov M-63 was indeed a Russian engine used amongst others in Polikarpovs.... now a hint would be.... Sauna? Smile
