DH 99 was a metal prototype Vampire as JSG says; DH100 was the production Wooden Vampire, As for the connection, I don't know, I'll guess at P-38, because of the twin boom design. These Foolish Things now available at M4T : Good Tunes------> Apparachik

JSG is closest so far, but not complete.
It is a bit of trick question, though. It's an evil one.
The key is that one plane or design had both designations (this is the link, and very obscure) and the other key is that each designation applied to more than one plane.
Note the DH.98 is the standard Mosquito.
Maybe it's a bit of a ******* question and maybe I've overdone it or I'm not very good at phrasing the questions.
But all but the bonus link is in the thread.

Ok, I'll try so the DH 99 was the prototype Vampire (or Spider Crab) The DH 100 was the production wooden Vampire The connection is the Sabre Mosquito (proposed heavier version of the Mossie with Sabre engines), because it too shared the designations DH 99 and DH 100 (actually I can only find it as being changed to DH 101 so I'm guessing) at some point. Stathem, close enough. It's a tricky question and maybe I overdid it.
The full answer is (in chronological order)
Correction applied.
DH.99: Spares pseudo designation, Sabre Mosquito, civil twin, prototype Vampire
DH.100: civil twin, production Vampire
The design that links the two is a civil twin by the DH.94 Moth Minor team which was the DH.100 then the DH.99 before it was dropped entirely.
The sequence of events is that DH.99 was initially skipped over as it was a prefix for spares, so the DH.94 development was at first the DH.100.
Then when the Sabre Mosquito came along it was decided not to leave a gap, so that became the DH.99, out of sequence.
When the Vampire was planned it was decided to give that the DH.100 number as it marked a new era, and then to reorder things back chronologically., so the Sabre Mosquito became the DH.101, and the DH.94 development became the DH.99.
When it was realised that the Vampire prototype would be a separate design it was decided to have that be numbered with a lower number than the production version (The DH.101 has been developed into the DH.102 by then, 103 assigned to the Hornet) so it was decided to give the DH.99 designation to the Vampire prototype and the civil twin. The twin was then dropped, with the bigger DH. 104 being the nearest equivalent, but the civil twin would have been more of a tourer like a Beechcraft.
stathem has the floor.

Wow, good story. I doubt I'd have ever got that. Ok, this one's probably a fastest finger first question, Who is this getting into (or out of) his aircraft? What aircraft is being manufactured in this pic? These Foolish Things now available at M4T : Good Tunes------> Apparachik

-Joseph "pips" Priller -Gloster Gladiator "Once (I think it was 31st aug. 1940), I was in a fight with four Hurricanes over Dover. I was back over the channel when I saw another Hurricane coming from Calais, trailing white smoke, obviously in a bad way. I flew up alongside him and escorted him all the way to England and waved goodbye. A few weeks later the same thing happened to me. That would never have happened in Russia - never".
