I'll wager ten slightly destroyed virtual Bf 109G-2s HK got it.

Nice work on the Fairey Spearfish. I would not have remembered that in 20 years, and I don't have any FAA aircraft refs for backup.

Harry got the three planes I was thinking of, but I take his point that the Spearfish isn't really a strike fighter, so apologies for my **** up
I am not sure what happens next... |

Either the world explodes or Harry provides a new set of questions?

Well done Harry
I'll admit I was blinded by the images of Fireflys in Korea, forgetting just how long that aircraft had been around in one guise or another. |

It's the addition of "although not necessarily sevice", that made me think to the Spearfish.

1 ID this aircraft
2 What is the particularity of this aircraft ? (it can be seen on the picture, and no need to find the name of the aircraft.) 3 What is this ? |

Yes, I realised after first posting the question that it needed qualification as by 'brought to fruition' I should really have said 'at the very least flew in prototype form'! Anyway, on the next set of questions: 1. A spitfire racer 2. Secondary engine (behind the cockpit) for supercharging for high altitude performance. 3. Food cannisters for Operation Manna? |

For the sake of competition (I think Aaron's answers are better), and having not completed digging
1) Speed Spitfire 2) A Lockheed Ventura fitted with ASV radar 3) Incendiary devices 3) |

Prepacked schoolchildren?
My guess for no. 3 was based on the initial letters on there - AAD... so I guessed that might be dutch for 'tasty food, not a bomb'. |

Some interesting stories there about the Handley Page Harrow and Long aerial mines?
Probably not connected to the question but also a story about Harrows being used for in-flight refuelling trials |
|||

Yes these are LAM (Long Aerial Mines )
There was also a similar system fired from the ground. Aaron you're correct, the number 2, SNCAC NC 150 (Farman )had an engine behind the cockpit to run a 3 stage supercharger. Altough the "Bi-tri"(engine ) reach 630km/h during the trial, the fromula was disappointing because at high altitude (above 8000m )the Hispano 12 Xirs was not powerfull enough to run the supercharger. For the first question, the Speed Spitfire, was a speed record aircraft, which is not exactly the same thing as a racer. I give the hand to Aaron, because he was close enough in the first try |
