To me, anyway, its a challenge. It loses energy in a turn but it is incredibly fast on the deck...had it up to 1060km/hr! bow

Problem is, Oleg and Co. modelled the wooden structure pretty good, if you pull back too hard on the stick over 600km/hr the wing breaks! Eek

Anybody have experience flying this bird?? Any tips?

Thanks to some help from the forum members, I am finally learning how to use the jets, resisting the temptation to turn and burn with the pistons and keeping speeds up over 500km/hr.

I am in the process of making an online jet server. Hope to get some online play in soon. Wink2

That dive brake on Go-229 used to work nicely... but they tuned it down iirc during some patch some time ago.

Go-229 suffers from the common shortcoming of similar (jet) crafts; unreliable engines, and mammoth climbing times, but it can do something that neither other jet can in game. It can outturn most late war pistons Big Grin .

Amazing thing, really. You can catch them *and* outturn them Smile .

Offline, I find it is tough to hit with it, due to slow muzzle velocity and ROF. Also because there are only two of them. Veryhappy

Don't turn.

Airspeed, altitude, or brains; you always need at least two.

Um... i sorta posted a thread like this but in the wrong forum. Anyways, I'm sorta a user of this plane too

Advantages:
Looks really cool
High Speed
Looks awesome
Tight Turn Radius
The BEST cannons in the game (i can hit things up to 700m)
Low stall speed
It looks cool
Can take a beating, for a jet
Small profile from head-on/dead six
People underestimate it

Disadvantages
Large profile when not head-on/dead six
Bad cockpit visibility (i play open pit)
Unreliable engines
Slow acceleration
Hard to take-off/land (really slow landing speed , i usually land wheels-up)
Useless airbrake
Unstable (flies like a plane with its tail chopped off... cause it is one XD)
Breaks up at low speed when yanked too much (550kmh... but dont yank it you'll reach 1100kmh)

Are you sure you aren't confusing Mk108 and Mk103?

Mk103 has a muzzle velocity on par with Hispano or Mg151/20. Two of these "railguns" are an overkill for everything up to B-29.

No one in sane mind ever turns when he has any other option.

+1

Not only that I find it hard to calculate teh deflection due to high shell speed.
Also trajectory of shell is really fine...

However, RoF certainly is low.

I guess the Ho-229 is best employed as an bomber interceptor rather than as a dogfighter. Against heavy, high altitude bombers it's deadly.

I practice with a mission I created, with me in my batplane flying at 7000m. Darn FMB only lets me start at 300km/hr even though I set start speed at 500km/hr...anyway I have 3x Yak 9s at 5000m ahead of me flying the same direction as me. They ALWAYS spot me....turn in to me and the dance begins.....If I keep my speed up above 500km/hr as advertised, they can't hit me, although I have to play chiken most of the time. But as for the speedbrake...I don't notice any effect, and yes, I can get a lucky hit at 500m+, it is rare, the ROF is slow, but the darn Yaks are tough...but one hit usually does the job. One I hit 3 times and he still keeps on flyin. Eek

3 hits to a Yak will cripple it...it just may not explode right away. Give it time...if you're at high altitude then he'll eventually crash.

You CAN turn with the Go-229...not for a long period but the turn rate is quite good. Keep very short turns to get angle...fire and then break off. But don't sustain it or you'll slow down.

Its a really fun plane to fly...its not very stable...but it looks awesome. Its the bat plane Big Grin

ok um... these are my main tactics for fighting with it:
1.If you see an enemy on your '6 and you have the same energy and hes kinda close, vertical climb into the sun, try not to let him hit you and soon enough he'll stall while you wont, so you can reverse direction quickly and rain death upon him.

2. If you just took off and some ******* tries to attack you, keep dodging his attacks until he bleeds most energy (its easier than it looks), then once he begins to zoom away at a slow rate, let loose with those high velocity guns (I really surprised lotsa pros when I did this, sometimes they left me burning and then before they knew it they see tracers and a big explosion Big Grin)

IIRC there's a track that shipped with 46 that shows someone completely dominating some bombers with the 229, check it out!

One thing to know... Learn to fly it, and any plane you encounter will soon ram itself into the ground, jet, prop, lerche, anything basically.

They will soon realize that its not a noob plane. Lol if enough people fly it like that it might become an uber jet Big Grin
