I dont mind spending top dollar for all my flight sim hardware, but I really wish I could have a force feedback Cougar stick.

Any Ideas on how to do this or am I SOL?

Id ask on Cougarworld but the forum seems to be down.

If you really, really want to do that then the
best way would be to join the Cougar in unholy
union with a Sidewinder Forcefeedback.

It's going to be far more work than it's worth.

I hope you have successfully taken on similar,
projects before.

ed: If you had to ask how to start then it's
probably not a good idea to continue.

I've just about every Kitty mod there is. Nope, can't mod one to Forcefeedback unless you're willing to make a deal with the dark lord.

You'd have to do it yourself, as Worf says.

I would start on a easier project first.
Home made rudder pedals are a good start to learning the USB interface, sensors etc.

Superjew,

I see in Aviaforum some these MOD's - using CH stick:

http://www.sukhoi.ru/forum/att...d=72927&d=1183960945

Basically:

Put Cougar grip in M$ FF base, and only hook the X and Y axis in M$ FF circuit, and put M$ FF "deadman" optical switch in Cougar grip.
http://www.sukhoi.ru/forum/att...d=73005&d=1184147215

Leave buttons and HATs connected in Cougar circuit - to use FOX functions.

The hard part is get a female connector for Cougar plug, to install in M$ FF...

Other possibility:

A variation of FrankForce (Old CH ForceFX+Logitech FF+CH Combatstick USB(optional)).

http://snomhf.exofire.net/frankenForce/intro.html

Get one CH Force FX (these have a big motors/gears) and a Logitech FF - the circuit of Logitech is used to driven FX motors/gears, and to recognize in actual Windows (Force FX is a Win95 era).

Plug the Cougar grip as describe upper.

Buy a force feedback stick. Attach it to the back of your seat. If needed add weight to the handle.

This way you fly with the cougar stick and get feedback through the seat.

This is if anything more realistic than having just the stick shaking.

I answered your question over at a mod forum, don't know if you saw it so I copied and pasted here for you:

Yes, I have done it... sort of. I didn't modify the cougar base though, I adapted the cougar for a msff2. The metal joystick is far too heavy to mount though, so I removed all the buttons from the cougar and put them in the plastic grip of a thrustmaster F-16 FLCS. I adapted the stick to the msff2 base. I extended the wires on the cougar, ran them through the shaft, out the base and plugged into the cougar base. The whole thing ran well BUT...I was unhappy generally with force feedback, it was a huge disappointment. Many of the effects like gun vibration are just over the top and need tweaking. But even with tweaking, I feel many of the effects would be far better felt through the seat. Gun recoil/vibration for example easily pulls the the joystick off the aim point. As far as flight control feedback, buffeting, stalls etc, I felt this was not modeled very well at all and of zero practical benefit. Also, compared to my current sticks, there was little precision and general sloppiness which does not help with accurate shooting. My assessment is that the kind of force feedback that we really want is just not available. If money is no object, do what I did - get a second-hand Evenstrain modded cougar or a new Uber 2 gimbal ( I have both) plus all the other mods. I have owned X-45, msff2, CH fighterstick/throttle, assorted crap sticks. I rate modded cougars far ahead of all. I've been toying with the idea of building a transducer under my seat as this would be the best place to feel effects, not the stick imo.
