Thats one of the problems for me, poor quality mods packaged with good quality mods,and no choice but to leave everything as is if you want to fly on a CRT2 server with the UI.I don't even use most of the planes that Oleg gave me,let alone the stuff that comes in these huge modpacks.

What "sham-Halifax"? I don't find it in my install of AAA 1.2. I'd suggest to anyone reading this thread who is still undecided about using the mods is give them a try. All it takes is a little time. Then if you don't like the results, delete 'em. Don't be swayed by opinions not based on actual use of them.

1.2 is in NO WAY a collection of frankenstien aircraft. There are only a few new models, like the B-25 solid nose, P-38 early, Spit XIV, F9F, and those are all good quality. The rest of the pack is new maps, cockpits for every aircraft, and new varients based off of the original Oleg models. If you want the lower quality stuff, you can download them seperatly.

The biggest MB eaters are the maps. They are massive.

As for UI 1.2, I haven't installed it yet, since I'm still messing around with 4.09m. My experience with UI 1.1 was generally good however, and once I figure out how to switch between UI 1.2 and 4.09m, and/or install them both together, I'll give the new contents in 1.2 a try. At the rate I'm going though, UI 1.3 will be out before then, and possibly solve all my installation compatability woes.

Don't let my observations de-rail the thread. I'm not looking for tutorials (at least, not here). As an aside, the increasingly dense landscape of patches/mods is making the rant in the YouTube video "Sim Heil" about FS2004 a whole lot clearer to me, never having played FS2004 myself.

Blotto, CRT=2 is a flie checking function to assure that players in an online session are all using the same game files.

Hacked FM security of a sort.

It isn't perfect, but it's the best thing we have now.

If modders focused their efforts, it would be cool to one day have every aircraft in ww2 represented.

Probably an unattainable goal since accurate performance data would be hard to obtain for most of the obscure types.

Would be neat, though, to have all those little-known types in game and flyable.

I think you'd be surprised just how big 3d models and textures can be. There are also an awful lot of .wav files which are uncompressed, and I haven't looked but I bet the new maps take up a fair bit of space too.

There was a reason why Oleg did things the way he did.. still I like it.. I just hope that one day it will all be one big package.

I just noticed someone thought it was an upgrade to make the FM-2 cockpit a much more up close view, almost like a gunsight view when it's in normal view mode. I surely don't like that!! The original view was fine and you could see some of the instruments.

I didn't look to see if they did that to the F4Fs but I bet they did. I went back to normal 4.09m to fly the FM-2 Wildcat. If you hit 'Page Down' key you go to wide view but this is not the best way to get the more normal view back as it makes everything outside the cockpit look farther away. And I want things outside to look their normal size, not unmagnified.

The Spitfire XIV is also a waste of time due to it's normal cockpit view being "in your face". Way too close on that one!! Ruins an otherwise great aircraft.

Im really impressed by the list of new planes and FMs etc, But I'm kinda amazed that, even though the neat F9F is there, the P-80A as Gibbage originally submitted is still absent.

I'm not complaining, as I appreciate all this great work that is done for free and is so amazing; However, most of the work has been done on the YP-80. Some FM incorporating the brakes and a little bit more thrust and engine reliability, and you have a P/F80A. Some more thrust etc and the F-80C could be added to it. I've asked about this a good bit, but I guess nobody flies the thing.

I've been flying it more htan any plane in the sim due to working on my 1948 East/West cmpn project I've worked on for 2.5 yrs, and it's my fav ride. Being able to make realistic landings and have the range of tip tanks would sure help misn quality.

Just an odd observation. I wouldn't have said much if the F9F wasn't in it, but it seems that Korea/post war stuff is getting more popular, and I don't feel such a request is unreasonable.

Actually the P-80 is being worked on. It was on the mod site as a beta. I was flying it over the summer. At that time it still didn't have speed brakes but it did carry bombs and drop tanks. I think it has migrated to the other mod site now.

AAA UI 1.2 is awesome

If only there were just 4.09m and 4.09m mods

I don't care for the SAS or UP stuff I only trust the folks at AAA

I just wish that for 1.3 or a fix for 1.2 they make compatible official 4.09m, include freddy's p-51 cockpits, include the F-86 and Mig-15 and lastly British heavies

ElAurens, thanks for the info. Off-liner that I am, that's one less thing I need to worry about as I mess around trying to maximize the aircraft and maps in my Il-2 hangar.

Anybody have bad cockpits for the Bf-109s?? Especially the recently added ones?? Some of the stock ones are messed up too. Some are missing the gun sights, some are missing parts of the artificial horizon and ball and slip indicators. The ones with the gun sights missing still have the image of the reflector sight itself, so you can still aim but it is as if it's just projected onto the windscreen.

We can't get into how to fix this as it's not allowed on this forum. Just asking if anyone else has this problem.

I'd take any questions that are remotely like this to AAA instead. BTW, the issue you mention is known, and the fix is spelled out at AAA.

I have a great download speed of 700kb/s. But this UI is only hosted on the worst file transfer sites out there, if only they did megaupload - the only remotely usable free download system.

Torrent my friend. It's a free download anyway, so your conscious can be free of guilt. You can download Limewire or some other simple program AND begin downloading the torrent faster than the first 200mb part. Plus, the corruption issues are avoided.

Limewire is a dirty word. Pure spyware that stuff, get Utorrent.

Yes, I saw an AAA chap mention Utorrent I believe. I forgot I am among PC users. My Mac don't care about no stinking spyware.
