+1 I didn't bother with the RoF demo for the same reason: not enough disposable time in a week (it's tough being a family man but definately worth it). Heck, I've barely gotten my feet wet with 4.09m. |

You can make a circle at any speed. At 350 km/h the Yak3 will out turn a Bf109G-6. At 270 km/h it will not. Speed makes an enormous difference. ---------------- Flying online as nate85 "I can buy a scalpel, that doesn't make me a surgeon." - M_Gunz |

The problem with a compiled mod install is that you just cannot win. When 1.1 was released the team was bombarded with PMs and posts wondering why mod X, or plane X, or aunt Tillies boxers, were not included.
Along comes 1.2, which is fairly comprehensive and now guess what? People complain that there is too much in it. Remember, that for the most part, at least as I see it, the UIs are done to assure online compatibility and CRT=2. Thus helping keep online from becoming ever more fractured. (I won't debate it's efficacy here.) It also makes mod installs relatively easy for n00bs like me. Offliners are free to download and install mods ala carte at their whim. Not a thing wrong with that either. _____________________________ "Everything seems new to those too young to remember the old and too ignorant of history to have heard about it." - Thomas Sowell |

I also modeled the B-25 solid nose strafers! =) |

nice touch including your p38's in the object viewer, wasn't expecting that

Thanks for the B25s Gibbage1.
Both UI packs are aimed at online compatability and serve that purpose well. Offliners can use the whole package or pick out what interests them with a little care and reading. Something for everyone. |

I only did the models for the B-25 and P-38, so thank the team for putting it into IL2 once I got it done.

And you deserve the thanks from all of us Gibbage.

ElAurens, while I agree with all of your points, the real problem I see with the UI is the vastly increased load times over vanilla 4.08 or 4.09. Granted I'm not on the mod team that made 1.2, but it seems to me like they aren't even making an effort to streamline stuff.

It's like waiting for a red light to change. Time seems to slow down. I just checked and it took my machine two minutes and seven seconds to load IL2 with the 1.2 mod. Longer than plain vanilla IL2 but not a "vastly increased" load time. Missions loaded in between 15 seconds for a quick mission with 8 to 12 A/C to 24 seconds to load an original IL2 single mission. Maybe it's longer with a campaign but I doubt you'll fall asleep waiting for the game to load. Laugh more often and love harder. Your life will seem easier. |

with the mods installed your game should load slower because it's now way bigger than the stock game.
out of the box il-2 = about 4 GB not including paint schemes IL-2 + 1.1 and 1.2 = about 14 GB not including paint schemes folder as you can see, your game has put on some weight and has to read all that to load. "Hate me now, thank me later" |

Load time schmoad time.
Fire the thing up and go get ye beverage. I am having so much fun in the new P51D-30NA, I'd tolerate a 10 minute load. THIS is the Mustang that I read about the veteran pilots flying. She will still stall and depart, but with some kind of warning now. The horrifying CoG issue is gone, and with APIT ammo plus a revised gunsight, you can really let the baddies have it. Now, when you pull a series of moves and onto a bandit's 6, the nose settles down in a much more reasonable timeframe. Bottom line: You can actually fly, aim with the rudder and destroy A2A targets with this beauty. Canopy slides open too. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When Cameron was in Egypt's land....let my Cameron go. |

Amendment.
The APIT is no wonder kill ammo. You still have to hit a German plane really hard to get flames, and really, really hard to pull wings off, etc. The tracers are tremendous, and now actually do something for your aim. I flew against the snappy new Bf109G4 in tropical attire, and still had to pump it full of lead to get it down. But, I could actually aim the Mustang at my targets, and after a few bursts the enemy plane was pretty much wrecked. The ai could fly on for a bit, but the plane was wrecked. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When Cameron was in Egypt's land....let my Cameron go. |

I didn't install the whole UI 1.2 package. I manually installed all the A/C from 1.2 onto my UI 1.1, 409m(final). Using SAS 2.3 buttons, naturally. Other than the P-38's F, G, H (superb!)... nothing in 1.2 I cared about that I didn't already have. I'm a little curious about the new Hawk75's: I guess they differ from the P-36's in having only 7.5mm MGs? If so, I need to find some Battle of France scenarios.

+1 Worf I feel ya pain! I finally got it running, it is very simple. If you got just the UI1.1 and nothing else just overwrite it with 1.2. and your set. No need to confuse everyone with all these different installs..I highly doubt were gonna be going backwards, atleast i'm not. My rig is old enough and got no time for these long installs and switching all over gods creation just to play a game. As for the new planes the external sounds are great, the cockpits brighter and detailed the api guns for the 51 are nice even tho it sounds like a broken snare drum when it fires «99th_Swivet» |

I completely didn't realize it was that much of an addition to the game, so I retract the long load time complaint. That being said: Where's the extra fat coming from? In absolute terms, it isn't like that many plane models/cockpits are being added, so how are we gaining another 10+ gigs? |
||||
|
I think you'd be surprised just how big 3d models and textures can be. There are also an awful lot of .wav files which are uncompressed, and I haven't looked but I bet the new maps take up a fair bit of space too. ---------------- Flying online as nate85 "I can buy a scalpel, that doesn't make me a surgeon." - M_Gunz |

I could certainly have done without those extra travesty planes like the sham-Halifax and bug ridden P.11 derivatives. They won't last a day on my install.
