Hello guys,

I just bought this game trhough Steam, so far is a nice game but is so hard to play it with a keyboard, would it be easier with the joystick, rudder pedals and throttle set??, also I got the latest one I think IL-2 Stumovik 1946, does it need to be patched??

I'm new to flight simulators but I saw this game on review pictures and on youtube, and I really liked that it has a good amount of planes and missions.

Any others tips are wlcome.

Thank you..

Andy

You will not get far without a joystick in this game, a keyboard will not suffice. The latest patch just came out, 4.09.. Your version might be 4.08 or 4.07 depending if Steam has updated its version. I am guessing you will need 2 patches to bring it up to date.

Do yourself a favor and get a half decent joystick. Either you will need one with a throttle slider on it and a twist motion rudder, or get a good quality stick that comes with a seperate throttle for your other hand (HOTAS). If you get a stick that doesnt have the twist axis, you will need rudder pedals (or maybe you have racing pedals judging from your name). A good set of rudder pedals will add alot to the sim. Either way, you need to get a joystick to fly sufficiently.

Hi there.

It would be about 95% easier and funner with rudder pedals.

You need to patch up to 4.08 and then 4.09m.

Good luck.

Can I call you Andy #2 ?

There is already 1 Andy.

Yes you absolutely need a flight stick.

For a beginner I'd recommend the Logitech 3D Extreme Pro, I have one and it's fine. About $25 USD.

Awesome thx for the tips guys, I had racing pedals but they just stop working, I'm just trying something diferent and this game for some reason brought my attention, I'm a fan of FPS especially Day of Defeat source, I used to be a in a realism unit which makes the game more interesting (using strats, following orders and such) rather than just running around jumping and shooting , I'm guessing this game is the same kind.

Stealth Owl yeah you can call me #2 if you want.

Any one with the links for the patchs downloads?? also what do I need to do to get a list of the active servers, because whe I click multiplayer I don't get a list, just this( Join to :21000)

Thank you

For online play, google Hyperlobby and download it. It's free.

For patches, go to mission4today.com (sorry i dont have links for you) and search it there. You will need to register, but that only takes a few minutes. Welcome to the community

The Logitech 3D Extreme Pro has a twist rudder so you don't need rudder pedals. Rudder pedals are sorta expensive but I guess they give you more control than a twist rudder on the flight stick.

Il-2 is a very realistic flight sim so if you have all the settings on it takes a while to get used to how the planes respond to maneuvers, but it's intense and fun.

The main servers in Hyperlobby are just a lot of people flying random planes and flying in a big furball. If you find some other people you could do planned co-ops against the AI or against other people I guess, just ask around, but mainly you'll need to get used to the basics of controlling a plane.

Bearcat gave you the best advice. Read the nuggets guide CAREFULLY, more than once while you wait for your stick.
