I thought I had to make this post in the hope that I might help some new buyers/users. There have been many caught out buying certain 'collections' and being disappointed when they cannot play online.

Basically if you want to play online IL2:1946 is the ONLY collection worth buying at this point in time. Upgrading to play online with any of the other versions/collections will be time consuming/painful/expensive/difficult.

Although it POSSIBLE to play online with other versions you will find a very small amount of players and servers for each version, maybe no servers at all.

SO, when buying any IL2 collection, think 'Do I want to play online?' If the answer is yes. absolutely search out 'IL2:1946' which is version 4.07m and only requires the 4.08m patch to get up to date and play with the many 1000's of other IL2 players online.

Hope this helps some people and new players who were confused about certain versions.

"Over Dieppe, the wing was immediately bounced by a hundred FW 190s and a few Me 109s. I heard Johnson effing and blinding as he broke 610 into a fierce attack. I was hard at it dodging 190s, but I found time to speak sharply to Johnson about his foul language." - WingCo Jaime Jameson 12 Group Spitfire

Whether you want to play online or off.. 1946 is the only way to fly.. pun intended..

content content content.. 1946 will give you all the stock content with a few patches... whereas anything else will short change you and probaly cost you more or the same.

I'll bump this for a few days in the hope that it helps some players buy the correct version. Smile

Yeah sticky would be good- might save some mis-purchses.

I know I'd feel stuck if I got only part of a game.

I know what you mean VR and Triad, but the forum gets cluttered with stickys very quickly.

I will bump this a few times.

I *think* the addons are fine because they actually use existing content to create new missions.

It is fine whther you have them or not, IIRC.

A very worthwhile post Xio!

I bought Forgotten Battles when it first came out (i bought my first PC specifically to play it) but at the time i don't think i was passionate, or obsessed enough, to give it the time it needed. 2 or 3 years later my interest came back with a vengeance and i bought 'IL2: Complete Edition' thinking it was the most up to date version and i could play online...

...Thanks to this forum i bought 1946 (an absolute bargain at £10) and i can honestly say it was the best PC purchase i ever made! So don't be fooled into buying any of the other 'collections/editions' - this is the only one to get!!! Thumbs Up
