I eagerly await it.

I think he actually meant dont upgrade right now JUST for BOB, wait until it comes out if thats the only reason you are upgrading.

He didnt mean that you should not upgrade ever agin until BOB comes out.

First shot is amazing - the cockpit part, not the ground. He said he's working on the terrain colours luckily as they are VIVID. The shadows of objects(including one filtered through a glass window) and under a tree are lovely.

Very encouraging to hear most shots were taken on a CoreDuo with 2Gig RAM and an 8800GTX card. Almost what I have now.

Don't mean to rain on the parade but I am not liking the colours that I am seeing. It looks like a water colour rather that reality - which is what it should be simulating.

I think the cockpit colors look fantastic, but I'd agree that Southern England appears to have imported that strangely luminous Russian grass.

Guys, read what Oleg wrote, not just click on the pretty pictures and you'd know whats up:

quote:
We're working hard on finding the perfect visual balance, and many of the colors you see today are not final: sky, clouds, grass, trees, water, etc, are all being finetuned. As some of you may know, I'm a professional photographer as well, so perfect visual presentation is a very important goal for me.

Come on. Oleg even said it is a test map. Critiquing is good but not until the we have this in our hands.

Really can't complain:Click

I can't wait to see mid/late war planes with this treatment.

If we wait until then to express our opinions, then it is too late.

I like BOP terrain much better. Really. The terrain in SOW looks just like Il-2, or worse.

The cockpit looks also a bit like Il-2 good cockpits, with dials in "false" 3D textures a-la-Gladiator, which isn't good if it's gonna be a 6DOF capable game and you look at them not from a fixed perspective. Correct me if I'm wrong but IMHO there are many 3D-looking textures there instead of real 3D, and that's, well, obsolescent. Or maybe it's that it looks a bit cartoonesque. But it's mostly OK.

As for the terrain, I absolutely hope that is an early alpha, just for testing. If not, then time has taken its toll on development, and we are waiting for an already aged product.

It IS curious that they would choose such wildly colourful textures, even for their Alpha, isn't it/ You'd think they'd go for something more in the ballpark of normal, real-life grass as a starting point.
I'm looking forward to it. The cockpit - if it's all smoke and mirros to achieve that effect I couldn't care less as it just floored me when I opened that screenshot up.

Guys, before saying too much negative about the textures/colors, do yourselves a favor and read the thread over at the 1C forum for comments, and pay particular attention to Luthier's posts here.
