I originally asked ubi support about this, but they ran out of ideas to the point that they asked me to check the forums. I have a copy of the conversation below.
Basically, i am trying to use my built in webcam to put my face on my character in Rainbow 6 v1.02 (and 1.0) but its not reading my camera. My computer is [LIST] # An asus F3(series) F3SV notebook # Vista Ultimate (oem) # NVidea GeForce 8600m GS 256mb # Intel core 2 duo T7500 Heres my conversation with tech support in reverse order: Response (Uk Technical Support) 06/12/2008 08:57 AM Hello Unfortunately the only thing seems to be, to try another USB Web cam.... to see if there is an compatibility issue.... So unfortunately we can't really help you further.... Have you checked the Forums for any solutions? Kind Regards Ubisoft Technical Support Response (Uk Technical Support) 06/12/2008 08:35 AM Hello It seems your built in web cam is not compatible.... But i will have a word with second level and see if they can find some information for us... Kind Regards Ubisoft Technical Support Customer 06/11/2008 11:15 PM Actully, one of my friends also has an ASUS laptop, an F3JP. He tried to use the webcam with the game but it didn't work. He got further than me though, the game asked him to unplug the webcam and plug it back in again. (bit hard as his built in too.) His webcam is a different model to mine, and might even be made by a different company. Customer 06/11/2008 10:43 PM None of my friends or family have usb webcams as none of us have fast enough internet to make them useful. I only have one because its built in. I updated all my drivers, notably my grapics driver. I usually turn off all background programs anyway, maximises performance. I did the MSCONFIG thing, and deleted all the temp files. I only have limited time right now, so i will re-install tonite and tell you the results tomorrow. I checked thepatches site you mentioned and installed the 1.02 patch which, if anything, made things worse. The option for usinge the webcam doesn't even appear now. Response (Uk Technical Support) 06/11/2008 01:27 PM Hello Is there anyway you could try a USB webcam from a friend or family member so we can see if you get the same problem? This way we can establish whether it's the game having the problem with all webcams or whether it's your built in webcam.... And could you try with turning off any background applications to see if there is an incompatibility in your machine?... Specially regarding your Emulation software... Nero. Please ensure, first of all, if you could download and install the latest drivers for your video and sound cards available from the web site of the card manufacturer. Then reboot and follow the rest of the script... In order to fully troubleshoot the problem that you are having please try the below information: Close down all background tasks, and make sure your not on the internet... To do this click on the Window key next to Ctrl and the R button, then write in the Run box appearing, MSCONFIG and click OK. From there click on the tab marked startup. For Windows XP/Vista users click the button marked as Disable All, then click Apply and Close. .... and once restarted, a window pops up re 'Msconfig has been used', ignore that one for now and continue with next step ... Delete all temporary files from your system. Window key next to Ctrl and the R button, then type in the Run box appearing, "%Temp%" without the coma`s(""), this will bring up your Temp folder, Delete all the files in this folder. You may need to turn on the ability to view hidden files and folders to do this. To do so, double click My Computer, then click Tools and Options. Then click View and select the option to view all hidden files, and press yes to all. Then reboot and try the game again and still leave the Msconfig untouched. If it still doesn't work, you could try by reinstalling the game... I personally don't think this will help... But worth a try... Reinstalling the game with background applications turned off, and DON'T let any Auto patch updater do it's job... Install any patches in a bit... Please uninstall the game, then delete the folder that is left behind. Then reboot the computer, reinstall the game and reboot again, still leave the Msconfig untouched... and try the game. ... and don't forget to go to normal/ enable all start up before you go online again, the window 'Msconfig has been used', click ok, and go to start up > enable all > apply > restart ... Then install any patches manually that are available for the game, reboot the computer and then try the game again. http://patches.ubi.com/ Let me know how it goes... If the above have not resolved your situation then please reply back to this e-mail via your Ubi Account... We will need a copy of your UPDATED DXDIAG report to look further into your problem, please use these instructions to send that to us. Press the Window key next to CTRL and the R button, then type in the Run box appearing, DXDIAG... once that loads click on SAVE ALL INFORMATION and save it as a text file on the desktop and send it to us in your reply. Webcam is now continously on. Vegas 2 still freezes on the 'Initializing Camera' message. All other drivers are up to date. Windows is up to date (vista ultimate). I needed to get the PID id to update my driver. I dont know if it will be useful fo you, but here it is anyway. USB\VID_174F&PID_6A31 Response (Uk Technical Support) 06/10/2008 10:24 AM Hello I'd suggest you to getting in-touch with the laptop manufacturer so you can make sure you have all drivers and software up to date.... I am tryng to use my laptop's built in webcam to put my face on my camera, but the game cant find the camera. It just stays on the initialising camera window and i have to end the process to get the game to respond. My computer is an ASUS F3S series notebook, specifically a F3SV. Normally, the program using the webcam is 'turns it on'. There is nothing in the minimum requirements about webcams and apart from this, the game works fine on my laptop. And heres the location of the dxdiag file mentioned: http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft.cfg/php/end...200&p_file_id=231186 Help anyone? PS: This was originally (and accidently) posted in the main R6V2 forum and i asked for some kind moderator to move it to the tech support, but seeing that no-one did, and no-one replied, I reposted this here myself. If some moderator happens to come across my old post, feel free to delete it. |
