Exact same problem here BSOD referencing ctaud2k.sys during loading screens, usually resulting in my character being deleted when I reboot.

This is not meant to sound trite, but I'd avoid CL product given recent insight into their development practices.
In the meantime: -Have you tried to turn off hadware acceleration for the CL card in the dxdiag.exe sound tab? -Can you disable your CL card and use the sound option built into your motherboard? -Get one of those usb sound cards with mic/headphone jacks that look like usb flash drives: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186035 ($10 analog) or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829118107 ($20 TOSLink digital with analog adapter) The nice thing about the usb adapters is they don't need 3rd party drivers for basic functionality. Also, most updated builds of Windows XP/Vista automatically switch all sound input/output over the the usb device when it's inserted. So if your CL card works with everything else, just plug the usb one in right before gaming Vegas. When you are done with Vegas, remove the usb device and Windows switches sound back to your CL device. These things work fine on the end if usb extension cables, or in usb hubs. |

^^
That's all well and good if sound quality means nothing at all to you. X-Fi is very common hardware, for a 'next-gen' title to not support it properly is weak. |

Moderators and Developers have said this forum is all about self help and peer help. I guess anyting beyond that involves contacting Ubi technical support. You might want to throw in a few Hail Mary's and Our Father's with that...

Well it is 100% an incompatibility issue with X-Fi. I switched over to my onboard Realtek audio and I had no problems (aside from crappy sound quality and a noticeable drop in fps) Turning down sound acceleration does nothing as well. I've taken to alt-tabbing out every 10-15 minutes or so to backup my Document\My Games\Ubisoft\R6Vegas2 folder.. which is of course annoying as hell.

yes you are right mate, this is is 100% an incompatibility issue with X-Fi Cards. this should be sticked !!! this is a very important bug that must be fixed. |

I have a Razer Barracuda and it's not working with that and that's a newer gaming card. My friend has a SB Audigy and it's not working with that either.
Same kind of errors as described above execept for me with the Barracuda, I just get a lock up and the pc has to be restarted but Vegas 2 itself is giving me some odd sounds similar to things I've read on here others have posted. Yes my pc is updated. No other games gave me problems before but Vegas 2. |

well here it is, proof that the game does not, in fact, support X-Fi (aside from the PCI-e version) What I find really annoying is the fact that Vegas 1 ran perfectly fine with my X-Fi...
http://digitalstore.ubi.com/5736/product/Buy-Tom-Clancy...Six-Vegas-2-Download near the bottom: Sound Cards Supported: 5.1 surround sound Creative X-FI Pci-Express Creative Audigy IV series Creative Audigy II Series Creative Audigy 1 Series Sound Cards Supported: Stereo Onboard - Realtek HD Onboard - SoundMAX HD Onboard - Sigmatel Onboard - C-Media Hercules Series Turtle Beach series So here we have this so called next-gen game that does not support one of the most common high end sound card series on the market.. simply pathetic.. |

I have resigned myself to pulling out my PC and switching my headset over to the onboard audio whenever I want to play Vegas 2. The drop in sound quality is dismal (RealTek is garbage compared to X-Fi) but it doesn't crash and the ingame sounds are less glitchy as well.

I think is awesome of you to detail your issue/resolution on the forums. At least others can get some insight into what is going on and avoid some headache themselves.

OK GUYS, I also had all sorts of problems with my system relating to my XFi Audio card. I installed a old set of drivers, and I no longer get the BSOD.
Search for these : XFAX_WBUP1_LB_1_04_0064 Uninstall your current drivers and console, then install these. I still get the popping/crackling, but at least it runs. I still crash from time to time when I host a game, so there still some problems with the multiplayer side of things. Also I was running hot, so I bought a way better CPU heat Sink and fan (ZALMAN CNPS9500) and stuck another CASE FAN in. This game is pretty intensive, and I still get up to around 64 C when things are really going nuts in the game. Also, my copy of Vegas2 is from Direct 2 Disk, so I wonder if I have some of the problems that others have when it comes to seeing all the servers out there. At times I only see a few servers going, and not alot of people playing it seems... IS THAT RIGHT ? How many players are playing this game at any one time ? Anyway, try the older Xfi audio drivers... Good luck Dr.Rogue AMD DualCore FX-60 WINXP SP3 Nvidia 8800 GTX (169.44) X-Fi Xtreme Audio (XFAX_WBUP1_LB_1_04_0064) |

Thanks for the update Dr. Rogue, I will try those older drivers when I get home and post back if anything changes.
Also 64C does seem a little bit hot, I get about 62C on an Intel q6700 quad core with a ThermalTake V1 heatpipe when running R6V2. I'm running the Steam version and usually get about 15-20 servers showing up, 5-8 of them with 10 or more people playing. Cheers |

ok guys this is a different problem entirely but as i use an x-fi this still applies
This is a weird problem that i cant get my head around I have a fatal1ty X-fi creative 7.1 speakers and a medusa 5.1 home edition headset (v1) I Have set my system to 5.1 and use the upmixer on back of the speakers to get output on all of them In Counter Strike source and Cod4 i get perfect directional sound and nothing is missed out but in Assassins Creed and Rainbow six vegas 2 I miss out on sound effects and ingame speech and only get background noise when playing using the medusa's but if i turn my speakers on i can hear perfectly through the speakers but the headset sound is still incorrect For those of you who dont know my sound card goes to the medusa amp which outputs to headset and speakers So both are active all the time and to swap i jsut turn speakers off at the creative volume controller Im pretty sure that both of these Ubi games dont properly support surround sound at all regardless of the card you use This problem is annoyign as you miss out on the story an both games and i cant play unless I have my speakers on which i dont prefer at all A fix or work around would be great |

I figured it was about time for me to chime in on this sound issue. Those of you that have the XFi series cards are correct when you say your sound is really bad. Its almost like someone is taking ear plugs and pulling them in and out of your ears as you game. The problem resides in the EAX.DLL (EAX Driver) Most cards nowadays use EAX to make the sound more realistic. I use my PC to record myself while playing my digital piano and keyrack. When I first "borrowed" "stole" however you wanna put it, Vegas 2. I couldn't stand the sound problems . So just like Vegas 1 I came to these forums to find quick fixes that would make it better. Needless to say I didn't get very far with that. So I decided to turn off my Xfi and use my M-Audio 1010 Delta ( Pro Audio soundcard) The problem went away. See the M audio is not a gaming card. It is strictly a recording soundcard. So it doesnt have EAX support . It doesnt have all the options that a gamer card has. Well folks I gained 10-15 FPS. My sound is superb. So long story short.. Those of you who suspect the XFI and other EAX supported cards are correct in your suspicions . I sure an not suggesting going out and paying 400-600 dollars for a Pro audio card. I figured I would thow my 2 cents in on this sound issue. I also never patched up to 1.01 as my whole clan had the crashing bug that would erase your experience points. We are playing version 1.0 with Hamachi. Vegas 1 ran really nice with the last update. But, that also took a couple of years to get working correctly. And then a few months later this comes out and again were complaining about the same problems.

Just to add to this, I too use an X-Fi Extreme Gamer and I get crashes starting up, between levels etc. and the only quickest way to recover is the reset button on the PC. Annoying as hell !
I have been able to exit out using ctrl-alt-del but it is so slow then it is quicker to reboot. Please Ubi give us some official response. I know you hate your PC customers but at least confirm you are aware of this flaw. |
