Hey guys, I am trying to run a dedicated server, I got it to connect and everything, no problems, however over on the steam forums a guy is saying he can not join it. I however can join from my pc, and the server is in texas @ a datacenter, and I am in maryland, and I seem to be fine. However I have been in the server since around 5:00pm est or so, and not a single person has joined. I just find this odd. My server name is "NOLAG_TEXAS" its dedicated running team deathmatch. If you wouldn't mind could you please try and join it and see if you are having the same issue?

Do you have to have another key for the server itself? I used remote desktop to get to the box, and then installed steam on it remotly, and download all the files. I then setup a user account on ubi.com for the server, I could not get it to connect at first, until I went inside the game locally on my desktop machine and logged into the account I made for the server on my desktop machine. Then it would successfully connect to the ubi servers and whatnot. Is this the correct way to setup an account for a server? I've never done it before so I am just assuming this is the way you do it, cause I could not get it to login at all if I didn't login to the account in-game locally on my desktop pc.

Thanks

Ok, wierd, it seems like only one person can join the server? Say for instance, I join it, it will not let anyone else join it. It gets like a connection timeout or something when the 2nd person trys and joins. Verry odd. I had a buddy join it, he joins no problem, I try and join, it won't let me. I go in first it works fine, he tries to join after I did, and he has the same issue as I did...anyone know what would be causing this?

I believe I read about this in the Vegas 1 forums. Search there on the first or second page.

Alright, I checked thru there, and found 1 or 2 posts that had the same issue, however no fix or anything was listed. One said that it was a known issue, but they have done nothing to fix it.... Anyone have any ideas? I've been trying to get this thing going since wednesday..really annoying

I'm not sure if this would help or not, but just some additional information

The server has 2 nic in it. The adapter #1 is set to my data center's private network on an internal 10.0.0.0 network. Adapter #2 is on the actual internet using a public ip range. If I disable the private nic interface the dedicated server comes back and gives me a general protection fault.

Is there a way I can force it to use a certain nic/ip on the command line or something?

Maybe I am just guessing here, but this could have something to do with it...

Jeff,

The dedicated server package is provided on an "as-is" basis. Unfortunately, we cannot provide any support for its use. My best suggestion for you would be to try the forums for this game at http://forums.ubi.com.

Basically, sorry we make the game but we don't support it at all.

THANKS UBI.

They say to come to these forums for help. But no one from ubi helps here either...awesome

I see you got it up and running now nice work. I found out what the problem was regarding this issue. If you have anything wrong with the R6ServerConfig.ini such as a stray line, space, or invisible character it issues this error.

I was about to recreate the problem on our fourth server before I deleted the .ini file and copied one over from a working server.

I assume you probably deleted the existing .ini and copy/pasted in working settings.

You cannot use Windows 2003 Server. It runs fine on Windows XP with the lastest service patch. It has something to do with how the game communicates over the network os.

We were working on a fix for it but haven't found one yet.

What the hell? We've got only Windows Server 2003 running and we need a dedicated Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 server! Where is the fix, Ubisoft Montreal? Do something, immediately!

According to UBI,
RV2 will ONLY work on XP or Vista,
NO other operating system is functional.

Apparently, UBI designed RV2 for console use only. To bad UBI doesnt support its online players like they do the consoles, we have been on our own since the very first titles,
and thats NOT gonna change.

This will be my LAST UBI purchase for console or PC, My Clan will no longer support ANY UBI Games, EVER

This game is already dead. A lot of problems. Do you really think Ubisoft Montreal is going to fix it and to help us?

Show up, Ubisoft support! This might be last Ubisoft game for me. I'm sick of it, really sick of it. I can't even play on other servers.

Apparently the problem is also with windows XP 64bit. I am running a server right now, and Only one person can join at a time. XP 64 and windows 2003 server are very close as they use the same exact service pack

NOS_SADS

same issue here. WinXP Pro x64 and only one person can connect at a time.

I'm currently experimenting with running the game as a windows "service" so that I can try it using alternate "security credentials".

I will post back with my findings...

oops i guess i missed this thread.. wtf,, im glad i did not read this... and im glad i moved our server over to windows server.. yes, win2003 enterprise x64 edition.. frankly.. rocks.. our dedicated vegas 2 server has never run better.. i did not activate any roles,, i config the router to handle the traffic, you can enable some services if needed.. but i did not enable much..as this server is a pab owned game only server.. and yes you can set affinity or use a proggy to make the single core game happy on dual cpu servers or C2 duo gaming rigs to get rid of GPF,, what i cant seem to do is keep the high stakes mode running after first map.. maybe ninjaboy would like to share that fix.. as its about the only one that might keep this casino open for business.. the game that is.. heheh ok good luck.. 2003x64server roxor

I thought I had RSV2 dedicated server all setup just right, but now at the end of the startup it says "Login Failed: OPERATION FAILED"
Does anyone know what causes this?
Server OS is XP Pro 32bit
If I set it to LAN, I get it going but when I set it to Online (using login names and passwords) it comes up with that "Login Failed: OPERATION FAILED"
I've never had so many problems starting a dedicated server before. yeesh
