You probably have a card that doesn't support shader 3.0.
If you have PCI-e, your upgrade will be easy.
If you have AGP, your choice will be limited.
If you have onboard graphics with no optional PCI-e slot, your options are "0"!

Even though it states that AGP cards aren't supported, I know a couple of players using AGP and they work fine.
I believe they are 1950 Pro and GT.
There are a couple of other newer models that should work
