Whenever i play story mode now, the game just gets pass the loading screen, then crashes with a "ping" dialog telling me about some general protection fault. i used to play this game on my vista partition (which the whole game works, except i would get lots of bugs), before i did a whole complete format of my computer, which i reinstalled with xp. now, only the terrorist hunt (singleplayer and multiplayer) works. i've done lots of searching around the forums, and i haven't really found a fix that works.

- i've done the sound fix in the dxdiag by turning sound acceleration off. the game doesn't ping and just freezes.
- had a "failed to initialize network service" problem before, but fixed it by changing my unicode fonts to a english set of fonts (my computer>control panel>"something" Language Settings>Advanced>English)
- i've reinstalled the game about 5 times and it doesn't work
- i've updated my drivers and it doesn't work either
- i start a new mission everytime and it doesn't work
- i tried running it without the patch and all it does there is tell me there's a general protection fault without me even getting near starting the game, so the only way it works right now is when i have the patch installed
- i tried running it at a low resolution, and it didn't work
- i turned off anti-alas and it doesn't work
- fixed the random ordering bug with the sound recognition going all weird by turning all the recording inputs off

And yes, i have paid for the game. Expensive it was too, but worth it. (wish i could get story mode working, i miss the villa mission very much)

I don't know what overclocking is, but i've never done it. its really bugging me now, this problem. anyway, it would be nice if anyone had something that could help me with this problem. thanks!

I get this sometimes too.


Close the game,restart your computer.Try again.If not: Make sure your patches are up-to-date...Update punk buster (if necessary). If this ALL doesn't work,and no one else can help you,you may be forced to uninstall,restart,reinstall,update,restart,and then good luck from there.
