I'm having some weird graphic problems with Rainbow 6 Vegas 2. I have two 8800GTX's SLI'd and I'm using 191.07 XP drivers. I've also had something similar happen in Crysis and Crysis Warhead. All the jagged black stuff is the problem. It kind of flashes too. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling, but have the same problem.

A couple of things you can try.
Download and install Riva Tuner. http://www.guru3d.com/category/rivatuner/ You may have a heat problem that is possible to correct by increasing fan speed. Some factory overclocked cards can have problems from being overclocked too far. I have an EVGA 8800GT Superclocked card that would corrupt and crash while running on desktop. EVGA wanted to replace this new card with a used rebuilt card. I was able to get it to work by actually underclocking it and increasing fan speed. Now it will run games without problem. With 2 cards in SLI, you will have an option to configure both cards. I have also seen this problem caused by Direct X issues. Download the latest Direct X Redistributable . don't use the web based update! http://www.microsoft.com/downl...2d553&displaylang=en Download this file to a folder you can find easily. Extract to the same folder. (There will be over 140 files) Find and run this file: DXSETUP.exe This will only update as needed. Note: If the .exe extension doesn't show up do this; Click on tools at the top of the page: Select folder option: Click the view tab: Where it says "Hidden files and folders" Place a tic where it says: Show hidden files and folder: Right under that should be an option to hide extensions for known file types: Uncheck that option and you will now be able to view extensions. Unless you have computer knowledge, I would leave the "Hide protected operating system files" Checked!! Hope you find a solution for your problem. Good luck! |

Thanks I'll give those things a try! I don't think it's heat because I've got two massive highspeed fans blowing right on top of the graphics cards.

It still wouldn't hurt to try Riva Tuner just to see what the temps are.
Video cards can get very hot especially under load .. and even more so if overclocked. |

|
Okay my cards at load are about 70 degrees. I'm not sure what is considered too hot though.

That is hot!!
Mine is running at 48 degrees as I type. That is with the fan set at 60%. That means your cards are running much hotter under load. Try setting the fans to about 80% and see if that brings them down. You will have to manually set both cards. If you still have problems, set them at 100% when you run games. They will be a little noisy, but maybe it will help. You will hear them spin up when you set them. I would still upgrade DirectX. It can't hurt and it just might help. |

When I said at load, I meant they are that temp when running a game. I'm pretty sure one is damaged so I'm sending it in for repair or replacement.

Sorry Wraith.
I missed the at load part of your other message. 70 degrees under load isn't too bad, but I really like to keep the temps under that when possible. Defective or weak video memory can also cause your problem. You could use Riva Tuner to try underclocking the memory clocks on both cards and see if that helps. Kind of a process of elimination. Just for fun, if that doesn't help, try underclocking both GPU and memory. |

Well I sent the one card into to BFG to get it fixed or replaced. I can play the game perfectly with the remaining card, so that must have been the problem. They said that the 8800 averages at 70 degrees. I do know that before I installed the extra fans it was getting hotter than that, so it must have damaged one of them.

Glad you got it working!
