Already tried to copy all the content manually on your hard disk? The game doesn´t need to be installed properly to work.

You can also try it, but I am not sure that it will work but TRY:

1) Delete all the XIII program wich is on your computer (when I say all, it is the program and the file \Progam files\Ubisoft.

2) Then go to you configuration panel, then go to the part named users configuration (or other, I'm not english, the thing where you can put or put off some users) and get off the "users control". (it will say you have to restart your computer: do it)

3) After restarted, right click on setup of XIII-game, and put compatibility on XP.

4) Try now to intall and tell me if it works properly. (I think that the problem comes from the "users control".

That's all.

Ok. Got it working.

You have to install it to an XP machine, then copy the files to your Vista machine. I used a windows xp virtual machine.

Haven't been able to apply the 1.01 patch in vista though, may have to apply the patch on the vm and copy again.

Ho ho ho a solution!

Installing XIII in Windows Vista

This is how I managed to install XIII on Windows Vista (64 bit). The problem I had was that the setup program started to uninstall XIII after I put in CD 2 (asking Do you want to keep your saved games?). This most likely has to do with the copy protection which the game uses. Patch 1.3 removes CD checks from the game (but not from the installer, of course).

1.Create a directory XIII on your hard drive. Copy each of the CD's into it's own directory within the XIII directory so that the contents of CD1 is in XIII\CD1.

2.Open up the task manager (press Ctrl+Alt+Del), it will be used later. Choose the tab Processes.

3.Right-click on the file setup.exe in the directory XIII\CD1 and choose Properties. Select the tab Compatibility, check the box to run the program in compatibility mode and from the drop-down box, choose to run the program in compatibility mode for Windows 98/ME.

4.Run setup.exe (which you just set the compatibility mode for). Keep an eye on the process setup.exe (alternatively named setup.exe *32 or similar) in the task manager. If a lot of these processes pop up, rename setup.exe to something else temporarily (keep the processes running in the meantime), that should stop the process from respawning.

5.The setup will now launch and you can proceed as normal.

6.If the setup program asks for the location of setup.exe, rename the file which you renamed in step 4 back to setup.exe and continue.

7.The setup will now proceed normally.

8.When the installation is complete, you can remove the XIII folder, including the folders to which you copied the contents of the CD's to, from your hard drive.

9.Install any patches (you will probably at least want to install the 1.3 patch).

10.Play!

If the setup still won't work, try closing down any programs which you have running and then try again. Alternatively, if you have any CD drive emulators, such as Daemon Tools or Alcohol 52%, you may want to temporarily uninstall these.

WORKED!!!

Edit: Works to install on Vista, but the game do not run on Windows 7 =((((((((((

I got it to work actually, now the problem becomes getting it to run on one GPU core (I assume).

I installed it using the Windows 98 method, renamed setup.exe to kill the process and then renamed it. This allowed a full install of XIII in Windows 7. The next thing I did was patch the game to 1.02 and that got it working for the time being. The game runs fine, but everything is running in slow motion. Can anyone think of a way to fix this? I have set CPU affinity to a single core...and it does nothing, so I have to assume that the GPU needs to be set to single core as well.

I also messed around with just about every setting in nVidia control panel to get it to work, but nothing helps.

This game is so awesome and I am hoping to play it at full speed...I'm so close!

*** UPDATE **** Patching to 1.04 patch works fine, now it just needs to run faster and Win7 users will be golden.

Hello. I'm new here how you all doing?

I have the install problem 'delete all configuration and saved games file' pop up.
I'm using Vita 64 bit.
However the disc is DVD Rom (on sold out label)
Any ideas how to overcome this as I really want to play this game.

Edited:- Sorted the problem after looking at a previous post in this thread.
I installed it to a friends PC (XP) then copied it to a memory stick, them copied to my computer, works perfectly.
Pity there are not more online servers / playersFrown

In case nothing is being work and there's no other PC available, the method with a virtual WinXP machine always does work. (e.g. with VMware, VirtualBox)

I place there a 24/7 dedicated server sometimes, though it's not easy to decide the appropriate game mode on your own. So let me know, if there is some special demand satisfying more players.

Currently there's running one too, by the way.*

I'm a bit late with this game, got it on PS2 on release but didn't like the controls!
Recently bought the game for PC for £1 at PC world - BARGAIN!!!

I played on multiplayer the other day with about 6 players on, and by god it is a good multiplayer experience. It's very refreshing after playing all the war / realistic games (ie BF1942 / Call of Duty etc).
At least there are a few servers runningSmile
