The same here. Took GRIT out of drive and inserted SS and just after the RS anim, red x strikes.
I cleaned the disk (just incase) and went to launch my first game and straight after the briefing WHAM RED X strikes again.

OT/ Whilst I am sounding off. Why do we still have the gungho voices? They are so out of place.

PULL OUT YOUR CONTROLLER DURING THE INTRO!

It can only be said so many times.

I had to restart 2 times before the game started and I just left the controller with headset plugged in.

I just purchased Summit Strike earlier this evening, following today's UK launch of the game. I encountered the 'red X' bug following the Red Storm logo the first three times I started the game (fourth time lucky) and I was almost at the stage of putting it back in the box and returning it until I did a search for 'An error has occurred. Please restart your Xbox.' on Google and noticed how many people are discussing this problem - but it's not just a problem during game start-up.

You can't simply solve this problem by removing the headset or the controller during game start-up because it's occurring mid-game. During one of my first GR2:SS games on Xbox Live this evening, the error popped up after 1-2 hours of play on both the host's Xbox and my Xbox. This is extremely irritating!

When are Ubi going to test their games thoroughly prior to release? Am I honestly supposed to believe that Ubi's testers didn't try playing the game on a range of Xboxes with the controllers and headsets plugged-in before the game hit the stores? Or should I assume that Ubi knew about the problem at the time of release but chose to release a defective product? This is a joke! It's an offence to misdescribe a product and/or knowingly sell faulty goods - at least it is in the UK!

I too purchased Summit Strike today in the UK and I can also confirm that the "Red X" bug is not just when loading. I was hosting a game and I had played for roughly 2 hours without a hitch, then all of a sudden just after the round was over my Xbox suffered the bug and I had to restart. One of the clients was kicked and the other one got the Red X bug too, there must be a serious bug in the game for this to happen randomly. I am also disgusted that Ubi have been aware of this situation since Ghost Recon 2's release but have failed to act. Soon enough I won't be wasting my time and money on Ubi products if things don't improve.

Got Sumit strike yesterday and so far have not encountered the red X once *fingers crossed - lucky charms all present and correct*
I might try clearing the cache with a couple of other games and see if it appears

UBI Could have delayed the UK release of Summit Strike. they had nearly a month since the NTSC version and was fully aware of the situation.
they could have stopped duplication of the pal version and informed us and the game stores of the delay, I emailed all the major UK game stores in the UK explainin the problem 3 weeks ago supplying links to ubi and here. in the hope that they would cancel orders or demand something be done, I only got two emails back and all they said was that they forwared them to the proper deptment. well it fell on deaf ears.
the uk release went ahead and now people are getting the red x as expected and they will have to deal with the returns they get.

hopefully this will teach them a lesson?
in the uk we used to have a saying "the customer is always right" Sadly this is not the case no more and the customer has a raw deal.

play.com and game uk deserve to lose money. they knowingly suppied faulty goods.

And i truly believe UBI knew about the problem, they got away with it once so why not try it again.

I myslef am thinking of starting a xbox development company. All i got to do is put out some fancy GFX get a coder to code a nice Red X page and then sell it as the next Gen Combat Game. then laugh all the way to the bank.

Seriouly though i have my concerns for the up coming AWF. I will not be buying this until i am sure there will not be a repeat of the fabled RED X.

Time to email the UK xbox mags, gonna ask them to try to get a statment either from UBI or Red Storm about the Red X problem.

The problem is that UBI has yet to acknowledge the other occurances of the red "X" exist. They only acknowledge that it happens during initial startup to a "select few" machines. The issue won't be addressed in a patch because they say the answer is to unplug your controller and all is well.

To those who remember "Dontwantone2004" et al . . . and all the previous discussions on GR2! I'm back . . .

This all sounds so familiar. Ubi has done it again to get one last round of cash from GR on xbox before it moves its focus to xbox-360 . . . but then I'm cynical!

I am quite surprised that UBI treats it fans with such contempt . . . so much so that it has shipped a defective product again! Unbelievable!

Yeah, we're almost at four weeks since release and no patch. I'm not expecting one. Does't bode well for GR3 on the 360 does it, esp. since that system won't have a hard drive standard to save Ubi's stupid patches. Avoid GR3 until Ubi redeems itself.

Had it twice now - neither time being on loading - and I've only owned the game for two days.

Once when I was in an online lobby and the host quit out.

Once when I'd just started the fourth mission in the campaign and saved the game after the intro. Corrupted my campaign save into the bargain, that.

Totally unacceptable.

My fix to the red x has been just don't touch any control buttons until the cinematics have started.

What about the red X's on received on other occasions such as in the middle of a session, or after a friend sends an invite. I sincerely hope that UBIsoft develops a more graceful, fault-tolerant way of dealing with game bugs in GR3. Throwing a generic error asking to restart ones xbox is just unacceptable.

The other area that could stand great improvement is the online menuing. Instead of complaining about that too I'll recommend what I consider to be the gold standard, which is the online experience of Halo 2. Study it and learn. Hire some consultants from Microsoft if you have to.

GR2 and GR2SS are great games, as I am sure the next one will be especially if these areas in robustness and usability are brought up to the same quality of the rest of the title.

Alright Guys, thought I'd chip in.

This is horse sh:t. I must have spent â£300 on Ubisoft products so far, I kind of forgave GR2 for being shoddy, & kind of gave up playing it. Or trying to play it.

So when GR2SS comes out I'm like, wow, they must have fixed the red x, woo hoo, I'll buy that. Sucker. They just programmed the game so you can't play it at all. Who tests this stuff? Why such a suprise to Ubisoft that a flaw which wrecked the original GR2 & never got fixed happens again in the sequel?

Are we mugs? Do we look stupid? Well I for one must be stupid for sitting through 20 restarts - come on, call that a fix? The only way I got the game to run (for a short while on single player) was to disconnect the controller - until "Your disk is dirty...." You know the rest.

UBISOFT YOU ARE CONNING YOUR CUSTOMERS.

NO OTHER MULTI-MILLION POUND INDUSTRY WOULD GET AWAY WITH THIS.

I like Rainbow. So I bought Rainbow Six Four. Another waste of money BECAUSE THE GAME LOCKS UP BEFORE YOU CAN PLAY THE POXY GAME.

Come on Ubisoft, sort your life out. You have millions of pounds. Our ****ing pounds.

I just bought the game and was getting frustrated with this error. My system is old but has a new Phillips DVD drive so I knew it was not my Xbox. I use the old Duke controller for all my FPS's, so it was in Port 1 and a Contoller S was in port 2. I removed the controller S from port 2 and the problem went away. I also did have the headset/communicator plugged into the Duke and left it in with no problems, removing the Contoller S solved my problem.

Thought this might help everyone.
