What really drives me nuts is getting the Red X in the middle of a LIVE game. In a night, this is sure to happen to me 2 or 3 times. Nobody seems to be addressing this issue. I know I'm not the only one because alot of the people I've played with have the same complaint. The irony is, I keep trying to ask Ubisoft about this in the support section of this website, and I keep getting an "ERROR" message.

Unfortunately they used the same meaningless and traumatizing message to mess with all of our minds.
That said, the GR2 SS Red X is completely different. Once the video / game is 'cached' the error disappears, never to return. And they've narrowed it down to the communicator. Hopefully they issue a patch to correct it for new game buyers, verus patching it to read in 5 new languages.
I'm still 100% pissed off at the way they handled the Red X error in GR2. PISSED. I still play that version because they didn't bring over some of the best and most played maps, like Quarry. And I don't like the lone wolf weapons being part of Rifles in GR2 SS with no option to disable them without keeping explosives.
Nuff said. UBI, test first.
I totally agree with what you just said. Redstorm need to track this down and get it patched, with more and more rumours of red x's during play, I havent even looked at this on the shelf let alone thought about buying it, I would not be surprised to see this bug in gr3 when its out.

Well I am sure that Red Storm will PORT over the RED X for Ghost Recon 3.
I will not be buying the PAL version of Summit Strike until I hear that the Red X is fixed and also will not purchase GH3 until I am sure its also red x free.

That is incorrect, I, as well as many others, have experience the red X on GR2:SS DURING game play, that is AFTER the game is cached. UBI claims the problem is related to having the communicator plugged in during game load up. Well, that also is incorrect. I have received the error, along with others who have posted, with NO communicator plugged in period.

The GR2 family has to be one of the worst coded games I've ever seen.

Thankfully.
They don't program Aircraft Systems.
That flash car he drives, you brought it!
Sits with controller in hand staring at a Red x

OK UBI answer this why every time you make a ghost recon this problem is here everytime I buy another one of your ghostrecon's i have this problem. and please on gr2 when you released that patch you "localized it" are you going to do the same thing this time? It's rediculous

ok its done, I am NOT buying this game, and probably wont buy gr3 either when it ships due to this very problem.
Great shame really, good game destroyed by sloppy coding. Network games should be able to handle errors silently without falling over in such a manor. Thought the entire idea of GR2:SS was to fix the problems with the first incarnation.

I truly cannot believe that the developer's answer to a bug in the game would be to "unplug all of your controllers, unplug your headset, and sit through the entire opening movie" just to play the game! I know that at least when I am turning on my Xbox to get onto Live for some Summit Strike, I don't want to decide to play, then finally get to do so 10 minutes later. Is this a joke -- unplug my controllers?! This is unfortunately both the most humorous and saddest videogame story I have ever encountered. I've had problems with EA Sports' NCAA Football series doing almost the same sort of thing, but nothing near the frequency of this Ghost Recon problem. What a slap in the face to Ubi's loyal customers, making a great game at some times unplayable. But hey, like others have stated before me, if you're going to just complain about it on the forums and do nothing else, don't expect anything to be done about it. Let the voice of the crowd be heard. To be honest, I still play the game and would rather not return my copy to make a point when chances are not many others will do the same. It just sucks when the red X decides to appear and I just give up, turning off my console, getting screwed out of a game. But I will be writing and calling to Ubi to do whatever I can, so I urge others to do the same.

9 days to go until the UK release of Summit Strike. I have done all I can in emailing BIG UK game sellers about the red x problem.
I don't think for one minute that the UK version will be fixed. The NTSC version has no fix as yet so its very unlikey the pal will be any different.
It will be very intresting to see the posts in 9 days time. many uk gamers will not be aware of this problem, they will buy the game red x and take it back and the companies i told will think mmmm didnt we get a email from some guy saying there was a problem.
little to late i think.
people take little notice when there is only one voice.

as a fellow Brit I too am looking forward to the UK situation on the release of SS. I'll get it anyway, purely for the fact that it sounds much better than GR2 and from the sounds of it the Red X's are a lot less common than in GR2 (Until the "patch" in GR2 I never got a red X, after - almost everytime on live. So I gave up playing it on live) £20 is a bargain in anyone book and I'll trade my dust-collected GR2 for it (probably only get a £5) I know people are getting in contact with the stores but there is very little they can do. There's a very thin line in the whole "fit for purpose" bit in trading standards with regards to software, how else would Microsoft get away with all the problems in their OS's over the years. Roguegunners ClanXBL Beta Tester "If you don't get me with your first shot, you aint getting a second!"

But if you can not boot in to the game and it it does not do as discribed then this product is not fit.
If i took the game to trading standards and explained that it wont work on my xbox or others and is not my fault why the game does not work they will say I am entitled to a refund.
MS does not get away with anything with there OS. they are always getting in to trouble for this and that. they even had to remove Media Player just to please.
All software has bugs you cant get away from it. thats why there is a testing period. to try and route out the major problems, some may remain and its only by users emailing the software devs that fixes are programmed or a new release is put out. But you dont expect to put a xbox game in and Red x before u even have a chance to play. there are no Excuses, I'd love one of the guys from Red Storm to say a piece on the red x problem and how it was not found.

Just got my pal copy today and have to say the dreaded red x problem is worser in Summit Strike than in GR2, the first red x I got was right after I booted up the game, just after the Ubi logo and before the intro movie of all places!! That happened at least 3 times before I actually got onto the title screen, and also I can't even stay on a server for more than 10 mins without either getting disconnected or the red x rearing it's ugly head!
