Microsoft has made countless revisions to the Xbox hardware. Just because the specs are the same, doesn't mean there won't be compatibility issues.

If that was the case then I would be having the same issues with all my other games. But since GR2 and GR2:SS are the ONLY games that causes any problems, it is not a compatibility issue, it is a programming issue.

Well, since I don't get any red X errors at all with these games, IT IS OBVIOUSLY a compatibility issue!

That's correct GR2 and GR2:SS are not compatible with the XBox. The programmers can't figure out how to make them work properly.

It's funny how Halo2 can work on the different versions of the Xbox. It's funny how other UBI games (Rainbow Six 3) work on the different versions of the Xbox. It's funny how all my other Xbox games work on the different versions of the Xbox. Only GR2 and GR2:SS have problems .

I too have experienced the red X issue. I am an avid recon fan but when i first open the box and place the disk in and get a stupid error, ,i find it hard to enjoy the game. Now every time i turn on the game i crinch just waiting to see if it will load properly or give me the X. On a side note the red X appeared more than 4 times in a row on my box the fifth time was a charm.

I'ev never had a lockup, bar the usual "disc is dirty" errors on my old 1st batch Xbox due to the thompson drive failing. got new drive. No errors since.

Sometimes you can get a dirty disk error if if the disk is clean. also you can get this error even if you have the game installed to your hard drive and not even using the DVD drive.

I think the error really means "this game is not coded corectly so I wil blame the Disk.

UPDATE: We have determined the problem to be associated with the Headset Communicator being plugged into the controller upon startup--not all users experience this, but if you are having problems, please unplug the Headset Communicator until the game fully loads for the first time (or after playing several other games)--once it is cached properly, you should no longer experience the Red X upon startup.

Thanks for the update. FYI I did get past the red x intially by unplugging the controller as suggested. Last night, however it came back. It appears that after playing several other Xbox titles and then going back to GR2:SS, the problem starts all over again. In addition, after I got past the red x again (by unplugging the controller), I recieved the red x again just by trying to join a game (just like in the original GR2).

I encourage everyone who is experiencing the problems with GR2:SS to send a cordial email to Ubi. I just received a personal response with 26 questions to answer in detail about the errors being received. I'm definately upset as all of you are regarding the release of a faulty product that has the same problem as its earlier version. Maybe they are serious about getting it fixed so lets give them every bit of information they may need to expedite the update.

Well ... At first my box had some issues reading the brand new disc, but after a few attempts at restarting the box, the video was able to play perfectly. Since then, the box had no issues. Until today when I changed the disc out with a different game, and later reinserted GR2:SS ... now my box won't read GR2:SS at all!!! Niiice (shakes head / smirk). Now what??

Hey I was just wanting to comment on this red X. After exchanging several copies,I(and many others as well I'm sure) addressed the problem with the red X to Ubi back last November when Ghost Recon 2 came out. There was no reply.

I think it's pretty bad that 9 months later they let the same problem replicate itself into the expansion pack and ship it anyways. And now to say it's a problem with the headset? My friend is having the same problem and he doesn't even have a headset communicator to plug into his controller. He can barely even get online with his game because the X screen will not permit him most of the time.

There's people including myself who've now invested over 80 dollars in these two games(would-be-fantastic games if they weren't faulty) and are not able to fully enjoy them as intended and there's no compensation to the customers. It's not like everyone can get a refund(only exchanges) on these games.

Don't get me wrong. I have probably more titles produced by Ubi in my library than any other company, because of the quality I've come to expect.

I was really looking forward to Ghost Recon 3 on Xbox 360, but now I'm going to wait a week or two after it's release and check the forums to make sure it's not going to have these major issues like the rest of the Recons. I'm just tired of wasting $$$$ on uncorrected problems. Thanks for hearing my rants and raves.

Please Ubi, can we get a patch or recall already? I want to recommend this game to people but if they get this error they will never take a suggestion from me again.

Well still no real news on the red x problem.
UBI should at least let us know whats being done to sort this out. I see that they mention the Voice controller.

Well the Uk release is nealry upon us and I bet it will be the same.

Ok. Here's the deal: Ubi sort of screwed themselves after traumatizing all the GR2 players with the Red X that freezes the game randomly, intermittently and with no explaination or attempt at PR to correct the issue -- Only by using the same 'sort' of error for a new 'unexplained' problem in GR2 SS. Unfortunately they used the same meaningless and traumatizing message to mess with all of our minds.

That said, the GR2 SS Red X is completely different. Once the video / game is 'cached' the error disappears, never to return. And they've narrowed it down to the communicator. Hopefully they issue a patch to correct it for new game buyers, verus patching it to read in 5 new languages.

I'm still 100% pissed off at the way they handled the Red X error in GR2. PISSED. I still play that version because they didn't bring over some of the best and most played maps, like Quarry. And I don't like the lone wolf weapons being part of Rifles in GR2 SS with no option to disable them without keeping explosives.

Nuff said. UBI, test first.

Hey Guys,
I had the Red X happening with both Ghost Recon 2 and Ghost Recon Summit Strike. I think it has something to do with the Halo 2 Saved Content I recently got. Both GR2 games stopped working after I had downloaded the Halo 2 maps. I blew away my Halo 2 saves/content in Memory Management and now both Ghost Recon games work fine again. Go figure.
