I am a big time ghost recon fan, however I am extremely upset that the MAAWS was choosen as the primary anti-armor/air weapon. This weapon is far too heavy and would be more suited for an individual who's primary purpose was anti-armor. Why not a lighter weapon like the much newer SMAW, or the even lighter M72A3 for that matter. These would be well complimented by the RPG-7 or RPG-2 for the enemy. I know it seems like every game has an RPG in it, but its realistic, and even more so now in this new region. A FIM-92A Stinger or 9K32 Strela would also be more appropriate for anti air defense. Needless to say, I am rather pleased that the weapons are some what realistic, but it would be cool to see some anti-armor options in a content download. Additionally the rare M202A1 seen the 80's movie Commando would really be hot! (no pun intended) though it was not intented for anti-armor uses. This is particularly a relevant point due to the fact that a considerable addition to the game modes included heli hunt and a armor hunt. It only makes sense to expand these choices. In closing I strongly feel just about any weapon other than the M3A2 MAAWS would be great. All of the weapons that I have mentioned are much more pretty to look at and would be likely to generate a great deal of excitement among gamers when using their anti armor/air/personnel weapon.

http://www.ick.bz

has been re-done and is up to date with a GR2: Summit Strike weapon list.

There is a listing of the maps and some of the attributes.

Of course much of the information needs filled in yet, so check back.

yeah i agree you should at least be able to zoom a tiny bit and make a fast switch to the pistol so that someone accualy gets a pistol kill and maybe on the darker levels it be cool to have an optional lazer attached to your gun

I Agree and Disagree. The MAAWS is a heavy peice of anti-tank weaponry weighing in at something around 25lbs, while the SMAW and the M72A2 are alot lighter, but remember its a game and no matter how heavy or light something is, it becomes a burnden after carrying it for an extended period of time. The LAW can be nice and light, but after 2 hours of lugging it around, it doesnt seem so light anymore, and neither does the ammunition.

So by 2008 there will be NO BA Rifles in the world then?

Why no M24, Why no L96A1, Why no AW.50 or M92
No M700/500 or whatever it is??

What have you done with the decient rifles.

Never mind that crappy M14 DMR Excuse for a rifle.

I used to like the noise of reloading and firing my L96A1, and the M24.... but now all snipers are Semi Auto.....well thats cheap!!!111!!one one one !!11!!11!1!!one

Also why don't the rifle and Support guns have deployable bipods... the shots takes ages to sight again, and a quick follow up shot is nearly impossible with a powerful rifle. Support gunners must feel this is a nightmare too, with full auto shots flying all over the place with a bipod, that just doesn't happen cos you push your weight onto the gun to keep it down......

GIVE us deployable Bipods you lazy arses, at least then you could do a proper job of giving some continued fire support to the rifle men as they flank...

I posted this in the Xbox forums in response to a question, thought I would re-post it here:

---------------

The key information to know about stopping power in GR2/SS is that generally, as in real life, weapons that fire the same cartridge have the same stopping power. The difference is generally between cartridge, although weapons with longer and heavier barrels, especially Marksman weapons, have less drop off over range in damage/kill potential.

An example is that in pure kill energy (chance to kill per shot), the G36K and A2 Carbine have the same stopping power at the same range. As a comparison, the AK-47 has more stopping power at closer ranges, but drops off over range. The SCAR-H has more stopping power than the G36K, A2 Carbine, or AK-47, at any range. The LRS-338 has more pure stopping power than any primary weapon in the game PER SHOT, while the MP5-SD has the least PER SHOT. However, like many players here have pointed out, pure stopping power is just a part of the decision to choose a weapon. A full magazine of rounds from the MP5-SD has just as much, if not more, of a chance of dropping someone than a single chest shot from the LRS 338.

5.56x45, 5.8x45, 6.8x43mm, 7.62x39mm, 7.62x51mm, etc. These are the numbers to look at, there is a reason why I started every weapon description with a cartridge description. The numbers in-game mimic the performance of their real life equivalents. Subsonic ammo, fired from suppressed weapons, tends to have less kill energy than equivalent supersonic ammo. For example, the 5.56x45mmSS vs the 5.56x45mm.

Yes, some times a player can take a lot of hits, just like in real life. And yes, some times, one shot from a pistol is enough to kill a player...again, just like in real life. Initial Kill energy, range, shot placement, bone strikes, and a bit of luck, all come into play.

The best bet is to pick the weapon that suits your play style, situation, and team composition, and make every shot count.

Hope this helps.

A lot of updates to http://www.ick.bz.
1. November 29, 2005 Added "Advice for New Players" section. A great place to send people new to Ghost Recon. The main page of http://www.ick.bz shows a link to this page.

2. November 30, 2005 Added "Video Section" but there are no videos yet. It is going to take a long while. I am working on a video showing the completion of the Bunker Hill Redux mission on Hard. I want to do this so I can learn how to use video capture hardware and software. Besides this is the one mission new players keep asking about over and over again. Perhaps we can just point them to the video instead of having to explain it every time.

3. December 1, 2005 Added extensive material in "about ick and links" Even if you don't care one iota about who this dork Ick is, there are some good links there to other sites.

As the Christmas Season approaches and people purchase the Ghost Recon Games....send them to http://www.ick.bz.
Keep checking back when "Advanced Warfighter" comes out.

Also check back if/when we get download content for Summit Strike.

i just want to clarify something. You say all the weapons are available from the start does that mean every single weapon in every player cl*** is available? What i found n GR2 there was only 4 of each weapon cl*** available. Later on in the game the M4A1 carbine could not be used as it gets replaced by the M8 etc. Also i have never used the famas or l85a2/ag36 because i cud never select it from the outfit menu, only way to get it was to pick it off a dead british solider (which i dont like to do tbh : ) lol) Is this the case in SS or as i said "is evey single friendly weapon availalbe in the outfit menu?

Every single "allied" weapon (like the SCAR) is available in every cl*** from the start, no unlocking needed. Enemy weapons (like the AK-47) are available in MP.

I'm planning to buy Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 game for the PS3 - and my inquiry is... when you locate a friendly or enemy soldier there is a siluette around them (blue for friendly and red for enemy, right?) so, I would like to know if I'll be able in the General Options to change it to On/Off.
