What's the difference between these two weapons in Rainbow Six Vegas 2? They have the exact same stats, I use the AKS but i was just wondering if there's even any difference... Thanks!

The AK-47 (contraction of Russian: Автомат Калашникова образца 1947 года; Avtomat Kalashnikova obraztsa 1947 goda; "Kalashnikov's automatic rifle model of year 1947") is a 7.62 mm assault rifle developed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov in two versions: the fixed stock AK-47 and the AKS-47 (S—Skladnoy priklad) variant equipped with an underfolding metal shoulder stock similar to that of the German MP40, for use in the restricted space in the BMP infantry combat vehicle.
AK-47 1952, 7.62 x 39 mm — Has a milled receiver and wooden buttstock and handguard. Barrel and chamber are chrome plated to resist corrosion. Rifle weight is 4.2 kg.

posting real world information is absolutely useless in the context of this game since none of the weapons (apart from their superficial looks) have anything to do with reality.
in the GAME, there is no significant difference that i can think of. maybe someone who has played the game longer may be able to tell you more thoroughly but in my experience the 2 guns were nearly identical in performance.
the stats do match, and even though the AKS74u is listed as a 5.45mm weapon, it is actually 7.62x39 in game (same damage as 7.62 rifle). same as the AK47, they even have the same magazine. the developers got it wrong. it isnt even a AKS-74u in the game. just like in Vegas 1, the Mtar-21 wasnt actually an Mtar-21. except the difference this time around, they don't know they made the mistake in Vegas 2.

Yeah, well the only difference in game besides looks is the AKS74U fires faster than the AK, but the AK47 has umph to it and easily kills someone with one shot at times even though they have the same damage rating...
submachine guns are usually defined as small compact firearms that shoot pistol rounds.
but it really depends on who you ask, because by that definition, the MP7 or P90 wouldnt be categorized as SMG, they would be PDW.
some people categorize SMGs as simply compact guns, and by this definition an AKS74u could qualify, but in the same regard, i dont see how G36C or Sig 552 wouldnt fall in either, since they are relatively similar sized and very compact.
a G36C is almost the same size as a UMP45

Essentially the Aks and the Ak are the same caliber gun with the exception that the folding stock on the Aks brings more mobility on close quarters but this isn't even the case on this ****ty game. You can bring a machine gun and it has the same mobility in a room than a pistol.
although it doesn't have it in the stats but it's the range the AK-47 has a longer range and is better at a far distance and is also stronger with alot of kick and the AKS-74U is better in close with higher accuracy and less kick on full auto
From a real-world perspective, the AK-47 is a 7.62x39mm assault rifle intended for close-to-mid range use. In 1974, to try and compete with the US's M-16, Russia rechambred the rifle to fire 5.56x45mm ammo (the same used in the M-16). 5.56x45mm boasts higher velocity and longer range over the 7.62x39mm, meaning higher penetrative power with a loss of knockdown power.
Contrary to this, the in-game versions handle quite differently. The AKS-74u handles more like an SMG or mid-range carbine, while the AK-47 performs better at longer ranges.
As far as the game programming is concerned the guns are 99% identical the only real difference is the 74U has a faster recovery time. Damage, recoil and range are exactly identical.

you got some wrong info here.
the AK wasnt chambered for 5.56mm until well after 1974 (i cant remember the year the AK101 came out... 1990s?).
the AK74 was chambered for 5.45mm in 1974
